Acela is a good ride, comparable to most world-class trains I've ridden. It's slower than the fastest trains in Europe and the Pacific Rim, but a bit faster than most trains which run on the classic lines. That's where most of Europe's and the Pacific Rim's trains run. Most Americans only know about the TGV or Shinkansen. The newest high-speed trains offer 80-90 percent of the travel time savings of maglev but at half the cost. And they can run anywhere there's a track and an overhead wire.

I wouldn't call Acela crap. It has a nice seats, a cafe,and a sleek design. However, from NY-DC it only saves 45 minutes vs. Amtrak Regional. It's not worth an extra $90.

It is NOT real high speed rail. Only a moron would believe in it.

First of all Amtrak Acela sucks and is crappy comapred to the TGVs, ICE, or Japan Shinkansen. Acela is so slow, its not real high speed rail. Real high speed rail is like 180mph.

Also Penn Station is so ugly. They should extend the track into Grand Central Terminal.

Grand Central Terminal looks like a real train station with its beautiful architecture.

I totally agree with you. Acela only gives a glimpse of what high speed rail is like for the 18 miles it actually travels at 150MPH. The other 450 miles it travels at speeds trains on the Northeast Corridor have been going for 50 years.

If they upgraded the canteary from new york to DC and redid the willmington-d.c. part of the corridor, you could probably see much higher speeds. Here is a good idea, urge your senators and congressman to support John Kerry's HSR bill currently introduced in the Senate which would provide 23 billion dollars in funding for true HSR projects. Sure it is for a few parts but it is better than 700 bil going to wall street (aka the toilet)

You have no idea of what real CHSR (Conventional High Speed Rail) is! America's answer to TGV? It's pathetic. I urge all of the readers/viewers who have any desire for the restoration of our once-powerful & productive economy to go view the numerous & excellent videos of French TGVs & AGVs, Italian ETRs (see the 400 Pendolino Series, the 500s, & the new 610s), & of course the Shinkansens. It is an Amtrak Acela Express train. These high-speed electric trains travel between Washington, DC and Boston (and pass through Baltimore MD, Philadelphia PA, New York NY, New Haven CT, and Providence RI along the way) at speeds up to 150mph. The maximum speed along the segment seen in this video (DC to NYC) is 135mph.

It can travel between NYC and DC in 2 hours 35 minutes, NYC to Boston in 3 hours 30 minutes.

Its not real high speed rail. It only goes at 100 mph since they never straightened the track in the NE corridor.

Real high speed rail is 180mph such as TGV, ICE, and Japan Shinkansesn.
