Acela is a good ride, comparable to most world-class trains I've ridden. It's slower than the fastest trains in Europe and the Pacific Rim, but a bit faster than most trains which run on the classic lines. That's where most of Europe's and the Pacific Rim's trains run. Most Americans only know about the TGV or Shinkansen. The newest high-speed trains offer 80-90 percent of the travel time savings of maglev but at half the cost. And they can run anywhere there's a track and an overhead wire.
i like to tell our VP to make sure AMTRAK is taken care off i like AMTRAK their is a place in this world for it. they have to stop make it the train to nowhere expand routes and if they want to think"green" expand the catanery program " the over head wire that provide electricity to the train. system wide.
Acela is completely garbage. The only reason that it is so poular is because it's supposedly comfortable. Madmaxninja08 is totaly correct. We should invest in some of that tgv and maglev technology. Amtrak is a ripoff.
ok for one thung u r totally wrong amtrak is not we cant invest in that type of technology because its to expensiv and the government is to dumb to invest in high speed technology.
I wouldn't call Acela crap. It has a nice seats, a cafe, and a sleek design. However, from NY-DC it only saves 45 minutes vs. Amtrak Regional. It's not worth an extra $90.

Sqaaak, The Republican Party must stick to it's moral and religious principles. We must lower taxes, spend the people's money wisely, support our military, be good stewards of our earth, and protect American jobs. It is worth noting that in the last election almost all small business owners, military, and religious people voted Republican. These are the people that make America great.
(4: Cont) The Republican Party must restore itself to the types of policy outlook characterized by the Abraham Lincoln Presidency, which it has most emphatically abandoned; for its part, the Democratic Party must restore itself to the policy outlook characterized by the Franklin Delano Roosevelt administrations — or else we will lose our Republic, real quick; it is right now, as I type this, slipping through our fingers. Do we as Citizens, as people, as humans, really want this?
(3: Cont) As we view the passing lansdcape on this DC-NY Acela service, we see the many mouldering, crumbling, abandoned ruins of our once-productive dynamic economy, based on real physical-economic output, in agriculture and manufacturing, at all levels. We were the leaders of the world. For myself, I work to raise the consciousness, and conscience, of my fellow Citizens, to reverse our decline into a fascist type of tyranny (it's been tried on us before!), before it's too late.
Plus the blame is also on the American people who want low gas prices but refuse to spend tax money on HSR in order to solve the problem . Most of them are retarded and hate trains going 200 mph constantly. They think it is "unsafe" and have this "go when you want to go attitude"
(2: Cont) But TGVs, ETRs Shinkansens, German ICEs, even the new British segment of the (disgracefully) late inauguration of the Eurostar Line, stand way ahead of anything the US Rail system has to offer. It is time for the Congress to reverse the filthy practices of the anti-American, British, Adam Smith, John Locke, Thomas Hobbes, Jeremy Bentham types of "philosophy", and restore the great, Can-Do, Abraham Lincoln, Franklin D. Roosevelt types of productive dynamic economy and policy outlook.
And to make things even more sad, the U.S. could solve most of its gas problems if it adopted European or Japanese HSR in dense corridors such as the Northeast, Southwest, Midwest, and Southeast.
I suggest the viewers watch, carefully, the numerous videos of the French TGVs, Italain ETR 400s, 500s, and the new ETR 610 series, also the excellent footages of Shinkansens. They will soon learn just how backward we, as US Citizens, have become, in allowing our infrastructure to so disgracefully decline. I have travelled on this very service, and it stands way above other US passenger services. (Cont.(
First of all Amtrak Acela sucks and is crappy comapred to the TGVs, ICE, or Japan Shinkansen. Acela is so slow, its not real high speed rail. Real high speed rail is like 180mph.
Also Penn Station is so ugly. They should extend the track into Grand Central Terminal.
Grand Central Terminal looks like a real train station with its beautiful architecture.
I totally agree with you. Acela only gives a glimpse of what high speed rail is like for the 18 miles it actually travels at 150MPH. The other 450 miles it travels at speeds trains on the Northeast Corridor have been going for 50 years.
If they upgraded the canteary from new york to DC and redid the willmington-d.c. part of the corridor, you could probably see much higher speeds. Here is a good idea, urge your senators and congressman to support John Kerry's HSR bill currently introduced in the Senate which would provide 23 billion dollars in funding for true HSR projects. Sure it is for a few parts but it is better than 700 bil going to wall street (aka the toilet)
CHSR (Conventional High Speed Rail — as contrasted with the wave of the future: Maglev), now runs at average, daily, and routine speeds of 340-370kmh, as clocked on the current generation of French TGVs and AGVs. The world speed record was achieved April 3, 2007, by an Alstom-built, 5-car laboratory train, as a test-run, when it clocked 574.8 kmh. When America wakes up, I look forward to that great restoration of our once powerful economy, with the needed investment in public infrastructure.
You have no idea of what real CHSR (Conventional High Speed Rail) is! America's answer to TGV? It's pathetic. I urge all of the readers/viewers who have any desire for the restoration of our once-powerful & productive economy to go view the numerous & excellent videos of French TGVs & AGVs, Italian ETRs (see the 400 Pendolino Series, the 500s, & the new 610s), & of course the Shinkansens. Study the brilliant Maglev technology, & then, get onto the supine & ineffectual Congress to work for US!
It is an Amtrak Acela Express train. These high-speed electric trains travel between Washington, DC and Boston (and pass through Baltimore MD, Philadelphia PA, New York NY, New Haven CT, and Providence RI along the way) at speeds up to 150mph. The maximum speed along the segment seen in this video (DC to NYC) is 135mph.
It can travel between NYC and DC in 2 hours 35 minutes, NYC to Boston in 3 hours 30 minutes.

Amtrak Acela is a TOTAL JOKE.
It is NOT real high speed rail. Only a moron would believe in it.
Sadly the U.S. is tied to oil companies, auto industry, and Saudi scum that prevent European or Japanese style high speed rail. It truly is pathetic.
Russia has a better shot at making a REAL HSR than the U.S.

Its not real high speed rail. It only goes at 100 mph since they never straightened the track in the NE corridor.
Real high speed rail is 180mph such as TGV, ICE, and Japan Shinkansesn.
madmaxninja 4 years ago
Actually in certain sections it can go 150 mph so it is just "near high speed rail" but yeeah, we need better infrastructure
