They are hero's. Check out they'er boot camp. They are as tough as the Marines. The murchant marines were made part of the Coast Guard's during the 2ww. My husband was in the murchant marines during that war. Don't put down the Coast Guard's!!!

@lietzke Are you kidding? Leeching off the taxpayers? The United States Coast Guard has been serving this nation 24/7/365, during peace time, and in every armed conflict since 1790. Lives and property have been spared, drugs have been seized, and the environment has been protected all accross the globe because of the Coast Guard. Over 1.2 million lives saved, and counting. We might even spend a couple of taxpayer dollars to save a poorly educated, non-hacker like you!

Therrel Shane Childers 1st BN, 5th Marine REG, 1st Marine Division on 3/21/03 KIA by hostile fire. Happy now? Using a dead soldier to start an argument is disgraceful.

@latter678 yeah your correct about the first to die in iraqi freedom but we're talkin about before that.. army sf was there gathering info so we could start the war so we would know where the main targets were . and there were causualties, 2nd a marine is not a soldier .marines are marines soldiers are soldiers which would mean you would be in the army . 3rd we dont get along because in bootcamp we are trained to think we are the best , that doesnt mean i wouldnt help another servicemen out tho

I would have loved to join the USCG, but they'd rather do affirmative action- take people who have a very good chance of being unqualified, over someone who IS qualified, but takes ocd medicine. They think I'll go psycho or something. That's never once happened. No crimes, either. So what about those who smoke and might have a nic-fit? They won't get cranky and go nuts? You can't tell me they don't have the ability to get medicine in.
