  • just like southeast dc after dark - LOL

  • Perhaps gathering is an impressive act? How do you know they understand its someone elses.

  • Because the locals want the papayas for themselves. Papayas are an exotic (non-native) species to Africa prized by specific human and chimp cultures. The chimps can only get it from stealing and it is the risk that the females are attracted to. They may like the taste too but instead of hunting collubus monkeys and offering monkey parts to females for an alpha male courting ritual, the papaya is the trophy of risk that impresses females.

  • Wow, this is pretty similar to the human behavior isnt it?

  • legolds "Wow, this is pretty similar to the human behavior isnt it?"

Exactly and we are talking about social (unnatural) eating behavior customs within groups to be specific. We aren't observing nutritional dietary requirements being met w/papaya (exotic species) unless chimps are just trying to survive w/any food after the villagers destroyed the jungle there, which would otherwise supply natural food for chimps.

  • Not really a lot of science to this, don't you think?

  • cheeky monkey! oh! my bad

  • you hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

  • You can just see the poachers moving in during the last seconds of the clip...... then cut. "Thieving bastard chimps!"

  • Can't leave anything around these days without then swiping it! lol. No wonder insurance is so high.

  • yeah the missus takes the papaya and then sods of with another chimp...

  • I bet when he gets back with his booty his missus is doing some other guy who plays guitar in a band (and whose got tattoos).

  • How do we know the greedy little bugger didn't take them both for himself?

  • surely this cant be considered stealing. he just wants to get laid for gods sake. wouldnt you "borrow" a papaya if this was the case?

  • Jay & Silent Bob: "If I'd known I could get laid just by stealing a monkey I'd have been steling monkeys my whole life!"

  • hehehehehe

  • yes, but do the chimps know they are stealing... my point is from their perspective they are most likely just thinking hey i know where theres some nice fruit that girl chimp might like.

  • or there could be some other explanation, like they see the fruit as being nice, and not impressing anyone, or that they recognise it as another chimps property but, like if they steal teritory, see it as taken over and won, rather than stolen.

  • And the years of research is all wrong! You got it buddy! /sarcasm

  • I was replying to the comment by simonodell. I figure that the scientist know what they are doing...

  • as a member of the unscientic brach of the primate family, i still think im capable of figuring out what another being wants with minimal queues, does this mean my views are more or less valid than any other type of primate, university educated or otherwise? where is the line?

  • Girls always go for the bad guys.

  • nice one...
