I accidentally stretched for 3 months and will not do that again. Ten to twelve weeks is good for me. Otherwise, my hair becomes very fragile. No benefits to stretching for me. Also, some of us already have thick hair. Seems like some stretchers do it, in hopes of getting thicker hair.
Thank you Girl, I am one of those nubies at kiss lol. You are so right I am a 4b also. I have been stretching for 3 months almost 4 months. Because I saw Tracy and others with long hair stretch. Thanks for your perspectives on stretching.
i stretch about 10-16 weeks to help my new growth grow more. has nothin to do with retaining lenght for me. in fact, i've never heard of such. and and i have the same type of hair (4b) and so i kno exactly what u sayin when u talkin about no matter how gentle u r, it still breaks. our hair texture is just week like that unfortunately :-(. Great video. love the topic
i just finished my first stretch of 5 months my goal is to get down to 1- 2 relaxers a year. stretching was beneficial to me bc it helped me appreciate my hair. i almost considered transitioning, but remembered i wanted to grow long hair and am already close to apl so why start over. my hair is 4 a/b and i used things like the caramel treatment (rcp. calls for banana baby food) and dc conditioning to soften new growth. when i saw too much breakage for my comfort i relaxed. i'm now texlaxing.
Hey Eb! Just stopping by to throw a tomato at u!! Jk I love u! Stay BEaUtiful! Let's so a video together! I'm thinking about how shampoo affects the skin as it runs down your face??? Whatcha think
i completely agree, my ends just thin out and I end up having to cut off ends anyway progress = 0 i notice that you mention Traycee- remember that Traycee began to stretch gradually if you followed her from the very beginning, you'l remeber that she relaxed every 8 weeks than 10 weeks, and she made herself into a champion stretcher very slowly, I think everyone needs to take it slow; jumping into stretching= setback...
Im glad you did this video. I'm not sure if stretching works for me or not but you're right--everyone has to figure that out for themselves. A lot of us just jump on the bandwagon and do what works for other people...their is nothing wrong with that...but while on the bandwagon pay attention and make sure it's beneficial. Now that you have posed this question...I will definitely pay more attention and see if it's helpful or not. And I am like you...z pattern all the way.
I agree 100%!! I find that my hair thins out. I think anywhere from 10-16 weeks works best for me. I also notice that the people who stretch on the boards and here on youtube have hair on the thinner side. I want thick, long, healthy hair! Everyone has to do what works best for their hair. We have tailor all the information that's out there for our individual selves. It's not one size fits all when it comes to a healthy hair.
YES!!! This happened to me! My hair broke off at the line of demarcation and so my hair is thinner in the back and my hair on the ends def looks thinner. Any recommendation on how to combat this?....I relaxed at the beginning of this month and I'm wearing buns instead of my hair down on relaxed hair. Thanks!!!Thought it was just my hair or something I did wrong although I was careful
Sorry everyone for the weird pause in the video!!!! It definitely pays to watch the upload before making it public but I typically begin the upload and either go to sleep or leave and let it do its thing! Glad you were able to still listen ok though, even though the pause must be annoying!
Ye i agree, i only like to stretch because i dont like too much chemicals in my hair. I would never do a 6 month + stretch, max id go is 3-4 months which i think is reasonable. I agree that everyine should get to know their own hair type and not do what everyone else is doing just because it worked for them. So yep! Even tho the video was lagging, the info was on point:-)
This is a great video! When I did my first stretch back in '09, caused me the biggest horrible setback! I didn't know what I was doing but did a stretch cause everyone on the hairboards had success. Sept 2009, I made bsl and I wanted to do this 6 months stretch. When I got to 16 wks, i washed my hair in the sink & didn't section hair- caused matting all over my hair. Me, my family, No one, oil, conditioner, and Detangler could remove the knots. My stylist had to cut my hair to NL!!!! This was a
@sweetfm2008 - thank you for sharing! Yes, its SO difficult to jump headfirst into stretching for long periods. I'm sure your comment has helped many viewers, thank you again.
@lifelinegmail - awww, I'm sorry to hear that. People have reported that JBCO and just castor oil in general helps to make hair thicker...maybe you have already tried that but if not, its a suggestion. Thanks for watching!
I do feel like stretching is not for everybody. No amount of stretching ALONE will help you retain length any more than you would if you were relaxing every 10 weeks. I personally feel like the length retention comes from maintaining your ends with moisture and protective styles. IMO stretching does keep your hair stronger in the long run because you are not dealing with relaxer overlap issues as frequently. I am so glad you let your voice be heard on this issue. Kudos :)
Hahaha girl you went Max Headroom room @ 1:12, but I AGREE! Strectching isn't for everyone and it really depends person to person, I am almost into my 8th month of transitioning and I think I am going to relax, I really don't have the time to transition and I dont' think it's healthy on MY hair to have these two textures (=breakage)
@sheba82377 - HEYYYYYY girl! You are so far in! You can do it! Your hair is great either way though, so maybe just a trim will get you where you need to be? You know either way you decide I'm witcha girl!
This video seems to do something weird at the 1:58 point on. But the audio is pretty fine and I totally agree with you. I have done long stretches and the first time, my hair looked great but the remaining times my hair has gotten thinner towards the ends. I have quite a bit of broken hairs in my crown area. I have decided enough is enough for me so I now relax at 8 weeks and have switched back to no lye relaxers, so far so good.
@Lissa0821 - yes, I didn't even REALIZE the weird repeat/pause. thank you for continuing to listen. Yes, that is precisely what happened to me, broken hairs and all.
@nnannabannanna - let me know how it works out for you. as someone suggested, it may be best to go little by little and work your way up. good luck however you decide!
I've been on my journey for 2 1/2 years and I only tried my 1st 6 month stretch after I got to my 2nd anniversary. I didn't have any breakage, but personally it was too time consuming to detangle with my fingers and then I was paranoid about excessive manipulation. I'm a 4b so I know how fragile that demarcation line is. I personally decided to go back relaxing at 12-14 weeks. I did it to try it, but it's not necessary.
@carolyn198205 - yes girl, that paranoia can drive you nuts! congrats on not having any breakage though! and I think you bring up a good point, everybody prob has to do it to find it if its best for them at least once. I see so many newbies struggling to make it to like 6 months and I wanna say, STOP if you feel you need to!
