I can run this game beautifully on my desktop at highest settings. When I go away I would like to play this on my laptop but it runs so poorly that it is unplayable. I pass the minimum requirements. I have applied the latest patches and updated my drivers. I'm running an HP Pavilion G6. Here's the specs:

Windows 7 64 bit

4 GB DDR3 RAM

ATI Mobility Radeon 4250 (integrated graphics)

512mb shared memory

AMD Phenom II at 2.6ghz (can't overclock)

Runs at 10-18fps at lowest settings.

you need to patch the game and it will go perfectly . you need to reach version 1.0.7.0 or so and it goes smoothly. when the game was at 1.0.0.0 it sucked, i had low fps but then , at the same video settings, on the 1.0.7.0 version it went perfectly

Have you considered that the reason why it appears glitchy and why items seem to pop-in at a very close distance is becuase you have gone over the pre-set memory limits? For example here you can see that objets are popping in and out at random distances probably as the engine struggles to load 850mb of video data into 430mb of video ram. Just a thought from my experience with overriding the settings.

@haad999 well that particular dude asked if it would run GOOD. yeah it will RUN but gta4 is such a bad port it runs like crap on any machine. my phenom IIx4 @ 3.7 GHz,, HD 5850 OCed to 950/1200, and 4GB DDR3 ram OCed to hell, gets crap view distance with about 35 FPS.

If you want to run the game GOOD, be aware this game requires enormous amounts of VRAM for view distance and is more CPU heavy than Prime95. I've noticed a quad core CPU makes a huge difference in this one compared to dual.

@sairus002 Hey dude I play the game and ended it without any lags.I killed Pegorino...Its not about you having a dumb Pc or something I know the game has probs but that is rockstars fault.I can play the game fin without any patches.Just update your drivers....In your case I will tell you some things that your gta 4 will work fine...Fist go to msconfig and disable event log and event collecter.download patches.driver updates and many more find it in the net.

@burdenful That machine is solid except for one thing, the video card. The 8400GS is just not going to cut it as they are barely faster than onboard video. and that's the most important part. Upgrade that and you're set. I strongly recommend a 9800GT. Those ones can max Crysis and have an onboard physics processor and are priced under $100. I've seen em places for $60. 1 last tip when GPU shopping, do not get the newer low end ones, get the older high end ones.
