  • are you stupid? its a pike!!

  • @gammer8882 no, you must be stupid. is a pickeral. it has a chain pattern. at pike just had random ovals.

  • Nice size pickerel. I love fishing them all day long.

We usually fish for them from a float tube. That's when it becomes really exciting.

  • the only reason why i searched this up was cause i caught one of these

  • maybe if your dumbass wasnt sticking your fingers in its gills it would squarm..

  • This is without a doubt a Northern pike and a smaller one at that. Note that there is no dorsal fin and that it is spotted whereas a Walleye sports a distinct sharp dorsal fin and is typically a solid (not spotted) colour.

  • @stephenwrr Walleye isnt a pickerel. Walleyes are walleyes. Pickerel look like pike but not nearly as big.

People always think pickerel means walleye, but thats not the case, thats just some dumbass who called a walleye a pickerel once and everyone believed him.

  • @stephenwrr And pickerel are indeed spotted

  • That is a frecken pickrel u bum u don't know your fish ass hole he's so exited give him a brake

  • Jesus christ thats a fawkin PIKE!!!! lmao...u certainly dont know what a pike and a pickeral is lol.....pike are slimmy mutha fawkers...and give a good fight...but large pickeral dont really struggle much when they are really big...just heavy on the rod to reel in.....and by gawd thats a small ass pike......pike can grow as long as your gf's body and weigh in around 22 pounds...

  • nice picky buddddy

  • 1:06 thats what she said...

  • beautiful fish

  • pickrel are nasty

  • hear that drag sing baby sweet sweet smokin reel music baby.

  • I love the end where he's like "boo yeah motherf..." hahaha

  • Great catch. My friend caught a 30-inch pick at a private lake in Sussex, Kemah Lake, back in the 80's. The house (my parents') is long sold. We're catch and release people, but that one's on the wall only because it swallowed the hook and we couldn't save it. Tip for pickerel: the more slime they lose, the more susceptible to disease. Try not to handle around the gills, or handle much at all.

  • lame average sized pike....

  • look at the patters. Pickerel, not a pike.

  • @dzhotdog monster pickeral dipshit

  • i got a lake behind my house and thats all that is in there is pickerul ones like that all you catch every cast very sick tho the put up a good fight as well

  • What part of the lake did you catch him on?

    East Shore or West Shore?

  • @donnygoat This one is in sleepy lagoon, which is at the gated side of west shore. Where west and east shore meet. The cruiser club is there, or the beach and docks for sleepy lagoon are on West shore by whiporwhill

  • like the last dude said, definitely a chain pickerel. mostly, pickerel have a black stripe running down from beneath their eye, just like the one in the video. NORTHERNS DO NOT. aside from that, you have to be blind to not see the difference in the pattern on the rest of their body. pike=spots. pickerel=chain (thus the name, durr). also, they both have pretty white bellies. maybe some of you should spend more time on the water, and less time shit talking things you know nothing about.

  • Let me say this as simply as possible. The fish in this video, is a CHAIN PICKEREL, you can tell by the chain like pattern of black on the fish. I honestly can't understand how this argument has gone on this long. If you have ever caught a Northern Pike and Pickerel you would know the difference, its pretty simple. In addition, that is not 27 inches sorry dude. 22-23 inches at most. Good fish though.

  • that looks more like a northern pike than a pickerel but idk. nice fish!

  • Beautiful fish, good times.

    That's not a chain pickerel.

    That's not a northern pike.

    It's both.

That is a hybrid, it happens and they are not stocked, not made in a hatchery somewhere, just a beauty of mother nature.

  • Why do u have your hand in the gills?

  • LOL That's a Pike.

  • WTF????....thats not a pickeral...thats a northern pike...you dumb ass...lol

  • ok..today i got one that was 28.5 inches..didnt get to weigh it though...how much was this one do you know? mine was a bit thinner than urs...28.5 inchesm how much would u say mine weighed?

  • This isn't a pickeral it's a pike pickeral are way fater then that

  • nice pike man!! thats no pickerel....they dont have a white belly....sorry to burst your bubble....try northern ontario, canada for walleye!

  • that was def. a 27 in pickerel, iv caught hundreds of huge pickerel and when you take a picture or video it never does it justice, so ta say its not 27, well you werent there. but nice fish man. P.S use bubble gum pink lunker city sluggos, the best soft bait in the world for pickerel.

  • i saw a 12-14 inch pickrel and it was only like half an inch wide...wierd

  • nice fish. def. not 27 inches, more like 22-23 at the most. the biggest pickerel ever caught on records was probably only about 30 inches long.

  • @MrPaul2You Thanks, but it really is 27 inches. I measured the links on the seat the next day with a ruler to verify the length. Either way, I have another video with one that is easily 30 inches. I should have kept it. Oh well, I catch and release em all so someone else can try

  • @MrPaul2You 36

  • you guys are morons... that's a jackfish

aka johnny aka larry aka hammer handle aka slimer

you should try jackfish slime shooters

    i hear they're great

  • @terojano thats the funniest thing i ever read in my life

  • My grandpa caught one that big. Biggest one we have ever seen. It looks nice in my grandpas bar :)

  • that girls laugh is fuckin annoying. nice catch though

  • n00b. n000000000000b. go fishing in Canada, n00b.

  • nice big pickerel is right! and you even let him go! Right on!

  • nice!! I catch em here in Massachusetts once and awhile while bass fishing... I think this spring I'm gonna try actually targeting the pickerel. No one seems to actually fish for them around here...

  • I had caught a simmilar Size pickerel here in South Jersey, Great Video Man! My Fish can be seen about 1:36 in my video response.

  • Im a fisheries Biologist.. Nice Pickerel!!

  • @disarm0311 How much do you guys get payed it would be awsome to have a job that has to do with fish or fishing

  • @pelletgun12 .... Depends on what agency you work for and what level of education. The feds start around 40-45 with a BS up to 60-65 with a PhD and with promotions into management the upper end is around 110-130,000. State agencies are all over the place with 15-20 on the low side. 35-40 average and 55-60 in the higher end... But it never feels like a real job!! I'd be just as happy to work for free!

  • @disarm0311 Thanks for the info hope you enjoy ur job and keep haveing fun fishing

  • Nice fish, its not as big as you all made it out to be though lol... But that's what fishing all about for me, that adrenaline when you know you got a nice one!

  • those r good eatin

  • This was satire, correct? I mean, first of all that was a 2 pound pike, which is about 3 pounds smaller than the first pike I caught when i was 2. Second of all the guy who netted it had the smallest biceps I've ever seen. Not that that matters or nothing but the pike had more muscle than the man.

  • What kind of homo watches a fish video and notices a dude's biceps? Do you just watch videos hoping for a little shot of some man ass? It looks as though you're too far gone to teach anything about the differences between a pike and pickerel, so I've relegated myself to calling you out on being a straight up queer.

  • Whoa, a tad defensive, aren't u? I can only guess that it's you in the video with the tiny guns. Why r u guys trying to fool everyone by saying it's a Pickeral? I mean, the jokes gone on long enough. It's a slimey pike and if I see one of those things coming after my spoon I'll pull it away.

On the chance that your not the dude with the small biceps, I bet your eyesight sucks and you thought the title said "27 inch Dickferall".

  • LOL your the one looking at dudes muscles and commenting about them, Im sure YOU are the one who thought the title said "27 inch Dickferall".

  • I may have commented on them but at least I didn't start pulling myself off at the site of them, like you did. What can I say, the guy had tiny arms.

  • also u should try not to touch the fishes body...you dont want to whipe there slime off....nice fish

  • In the US that fish is known as a chain pickerel....look at teh line beneath its eye...pike dont have neither do muskie...aka a walleye to some northern fucks

  • are u that retarded walleye are the same in the northern states as the south that is a pickerel dipshit not a walleye dumbass go back to texas you damn redneck

  • you are a dumb fuck...northern being canada stupid prick

  • so north dakota is the south now?

  • Well your a moron cause I had a pro fisher tell me everything about fishing fucker now fuck off.

  • Did he also happen to teach you anything about the english language? An "all knowing" 13 y.o should know the difference between "your" and "you're".

Don't you think YOUR pro fisher should be named to add some credibility to YOUR story? How about some pictures of you and YOUR big buddy catching Pike? How about you call him a Professional Angler instead of a Fisher? Or, at the very least, a Fisherman?

YOU'RE a moron, stay in school and learn how to convey YOUR thoughts without such profanity.

  • I know more about fishing than probably all of you and actually it is a pike I was taught by an expert fisher so don't even try arguing with me I have caught pickerel before that is not one.

  • Are all you Canadians inbred morons?

I can't imagine that at the ripe old age of 13, you've managed to somehow amass the wealth of knowledge needed to say "I know more about fishing than probably all of you."

Do us all a favor and go catch a pike. Then post the video, so that I can play a retarded Canadian and comment "thats a pickerel not a pike. Don't even try to argue with me, I know cuz one time I was in Montreal and shoved one up my ass."

  • yea mustve gotten so much slime on that bench

i caught like a 23 in one and i got slime all over my pants and the boat

    it was gross

but i had my doubts for a sec but i agree

    it is a pikeral

  • There was slime everywhere. Pickerel are by far the slimiest fish in the lake. But they fight like champs!!

  • yeah right dude. Pickeral don't have slime, Pike do. You just solved the mystery, if there ever was one. Try catching, cleaning and eating pickeral compared to that snake you caught and you'll see the difference

  • pikeral are as slimy as a bas of soap

  • its definatly a chained pickerel, i agree with punt 66 you should try and handle the fish correctly before realese becasue you can do more damage than you realize. Anyway nice catch!

  • if your so great at catching pickerel then what kind of pickerel is that? ur not going to find out cuz its a pike.

  • It's a chain pickerel, read at least a few of the comments and become educated.

  • I have been to this pond in cape cod that is filled with pickerel. They kept snapping my line but I did manage to get a 20 inch and a 23 inch. But people tell me there are some 35 inch pickerel in there.

  • Get heavier line! lol

  • actually Byrneethan its a chain pickerel. so before you start saying he is wrong get ur shit straight. obv ur dad is a horrible fisherman if he is telling you those are pike.

  • Sorry Dude, It Looks Like A Pike To Me, And since i fish everyday, and my dad is a famous fisherman, i think i would no..

  • ya thats a pickerel. i can tell by the mouth and the colour

  • first of all its a pike, secondly ur holding it wrong

  • You guys need to learn how to handle fish properly for release. You dont stick your fingers in the gills. Use a cradle or a lipper. When catching and releasing its importand to not disturb their slime as much as possible. If your going to use a net then use a rubber net and wet it before you put a fish in it.

  • @Punt66 They're actually very delicate fish too. Whenever I catch one I move somewhere else to avoid catching him twice.

  • @Punt66 is 100% correct... But what is more important is that you LEARN TO HANDLE FISH!!!! First off, it took you almost a minute jamming your fingers in its 'lungs' before you 'thought' you had it right. I really wish you had stuck your fingers a LITTLE further up and got a nice whack from its teeth... there is NO reason you need to handle any fish like that.

  • I've caught barracuda without ever having to resort to such a heinous technique... and it's not completely your fault. You see 'expert fisherman' handling fish this way because of pure negligence (or because they aren't releasing the fish) but they are promoting poor handling techniques regardless. If you are going to release a fish, never go near where it breathes. there is too much room for error. it's just bad news all around and there is no need to do it... there is much safer ways.

  • Nice catch....A little on the small size. I usually catch 4-5 pounders.

  • Im glad you let it go... I do the same with my bigger pickerel. I only keep the smaller ones to eat .. they taste much better anyways.

  • Nice pickerel!!

  • not being a dick but we regularly catch 30 35 inch pickerel but that is 1 hell of a fish and great that you let it go

  • Thanks! I let em all go. I have another video of one over 30 inches check it out. t was a monster

  • I am very happy to see these great catches ,,,, but im more impressed that as actual sport fishermen you let it go... I commend you, and to see such a beautiful fish swim away makes this catch all the better.

  • We put all the fish we catch back in the water!! We feel the same way you do. Thanks for the support!

  • Its pretty decent, but ive seen alot bigger. My friend and I have lost two in the last two weeks that have been over 30 inches. Both snapped our 8lb test line with ease.

  • Check out the other video i put up from the end of last season. It was of one which was way bigger. Over 30 inches. Fucking monster!!

  • There you go, thats what ive been seein. What pound test you using?

  • HAHAHA yeah what a fight that fish put up. Really hard reeling something like that to shore. I think it was 6 or 8 lb test. Most likely six cause it was what came on the cheap $30 walmart (Shakespeare) pole and reel combo.

  • Also, I used a 12 inch 20 lb steel leader. The teeth on these things snaps line too easy.

  • yea, i started using leaders a couple weeks ago after I lost a simular fish. One opf my friends last night lined another very simular fish and it just snapped the line.

  • Northern Pike.

  • for sure a pike

a pickeral is what canadians call a walleye

  • Thats 200% sure a pike.

  • Why didnt you just lip him? lol jk

  • Learn the differece between Esox Niger, Esox Lucius, and Esox Americanous. when you can identify the sub variations then you got the right to call people morons. That is esox niger the black vertical eye strip asswipe you ain't no fisherman and you sure ain't no fisheries biologist and you sure can not ID fish accurately. Chain Pickeral for those that are laymen. Grow up and except your dead 100% wrong.

  • FTW!!

  • Resubecca you are absolutly right that is a pike i have caight pickeral all my life and that is no fucking pickeral it's a fuckin PIKE!! and 27 Inches is a big fuckin pickeral but yet again this is a fuckin pike and FYI Godflesh88 they do have the stripe you fucking moron.

  • chiefsmokedawg, Looks likeyour a pretty dedicated fisherman. Ive been lookin for some new freshwater spots in NJ so if u kno any and would care to share plz do!

  • I'm up in Northern Jersey

  • I feel so bad for people that grow up in the city and don't have a clue from their head to their ass! THAT'S A FUCKING PIKE YOU CUM BUBBLES!

  • Once again someone who thinks they know everything and need to insult people. That fish is NOT a pike. Look at the black vertical eye stripe at 2:47, pike dont have that stripe and all pickerel do. Look it up if you dont think its true. Do some friggin research before calling anyone clueless.

  • lol it is to

  • impressive.. until the close up i was convinced it was just a pike and you guys were on crack.

definitely a pickeral. is there such thing as a pike/pickeral cross?

  • I haven't heard or read anything about a hybrid, but you should see the other video i recently posted of one over 30 inches. It is significantly bigger, and I put some still images in the video so everyone can see it's a pickerel. :)

  • how big do these fish get? is sounds like its stripping a lot of line for at the most four pounds

  • They get up to a little over 30 inches. I figure you're on point with almost 4 pounds on this one. I put up a video of another one I caught that was bigger.

  • any good eating?

  • I heard it's on the bony side. On this lake, it's catch and release, so we put em all back in.

  • Nice chainsides(3 to 3 1/2 lbs I'd guess). And yes that is indeed a Chain Pickerel - notice the chain pattern on the side and also the vertical black stripe running down under the eye - two characteristics that are NOT found on pike, muskies or walleye. Chain Pickerel (Esox niger) end of discussion.

  • Thanks!! I put up another video of one that was way bigger I caught right before Halloween at the end of the season. Biggest one I've ever seen, check it out!

  • Not a bad size at all.

  • Wow how do u not know the difference beteween a pickeral and a pike, its not a pickeral its a PIKE, Dumbass.

  • Ummm Rockyg8, I think it is you who doesnt know the differece. You can clearly see the dark eye stripe while he has it on the seat at 2:47, and Pike do not have any eye stripe.

You can always look it up on the on the web if you dont believe me.

By the way, that is a nice fish Smoke.

  • you can tell by the front (mouth) of the fish that its a pike..

  • Nice Catch...my biggest pickerel yet is 25 inches, caught in Great Bay NH.....i have caught a 24'' in the Lamprey River NH

and about 12, 20" Pickerel ice fishing this year.

When you hold the pickerel, and are not keeping it, please just hold it behind the gills like you did or alittle further back behind the gills just hold it verticalandit works fine

  • you are one dumb mother fucker its a pick bumb ass

  • You're possibly the dumbest mofo to ever talk shit or leave a comment. First off, it is a "pick" as in pickerel. You think it's a pike, but you are wrong. This topic has been debated a million times in this thread. The fish is green, and has the black line through its eye, and also has the chain pickerel pattern. Pickerels dont have dorsal fins like walleyes. This lake is only 13 feet deep and a northern pike will never survive. And the pm you sent me that was riddled with mispelled words, great

  • ahahaha "pick" is not as in pickerel, pickerel and walley are the same thing

  • HA Ha. O.k now we are making some progress here. Do everyone in the world a favor and goolge walleye and then google chain pickeral so you can learn that they are two different kinds of fish.

It's really a shame you have no fucking clue what you are talking about but feel like yoiu need to talk shit as if you do.

  • We catch them ice fishing and take close up photos of their jaws and teeth :)

  • Hell yeah! They have so many teeth that are super sharp.

  • and its not a pikerel. its a pike. if it was a pikerel you would be able to see a chain like patter of scales on its side and a dar top and a white bottom. its deffiently a pike.

  • That IS a pickerel, you just described its and then called it a pike.2:46

  • haha ok fishing experts

  • i get them things threw the ice.

  • ive caught bigger in new jersey on the wading river

  • stupid people just pick it up by the eyes

  • not a bad chain pickerel...next you gotta work on the handling techniques...haha

  • GOD i cant believe these fucking people they act like theyve never seen a fucking small fish that is not massive fuckin retard i see that pickerel are small and dont get very big but still thats not the point its a small FISH find a lake with northern pike and post a video of that ha

  • Nice chain pickerel buddy. Don't mind the idiots on here every region has different names for fish. You say striped bass I say rockfish. For a pickerel thats a nice size. A fish that big will have bigger cousins though. Try some BIG minnows real or lures, big Mepps killers with hair tails. I've even trimmed the the fat off bacon in strips and cast/retieve like a lure. They are bony as hell but fry up nice in crisco. OH! USE A WET RAG TO HANDLE THEM PLEASE ITS SAFER FOR YOU & THE FISH. Good luck.

  • hahah holy shit that kid is a such a fuckin pussy holy shit omg thats the biggest fish of my life omg its almost 3 pounds that is when hell of a pickerel shut up you pussy you can even fuckin hold it rite you cakefart

  • That is a chain pickerel, note the dark line from the eye down to its bottom jawline and the lighter colored fins. Not a pike.

  • I have never seen such inept people in my life.

    not big at all...

  • it's a pickerel

  • DEFINETLY a pickerel. there are like 10 lakes in all NJ which even hold pike. BUT EITHER WAY, A 27 INCH PICKEREL/PIKE IS NOT BIG! UNLESS HIS BITCH WAS THE ONE WITH THE ROD IN HER HAND.

  • You guys are such NOOBS.. you cant even hold a 3lb pike.. and its not a pickerel!!

  • its a damn pike not walleye or pickerel.

  • that is 100 percent a pike u dumb newfies

  • this is not a pickeril it is a northern pike or jack fish or slough shark and it is quite small.

  • someone lick my puss

  • I call it a SNAKE...

  • they call them jack fish in the canadian interlake

  • Definitely a chain pickerel (esox niger). Notice the dark bar coming from under the eye to the bottom of the jaw. It's a dead giveaway for a pickerel that is absent from the northern pike. Great catch!

  • Pause at 2:44 and look under the eye. Pickerel for sure

  • I went through this argument in here last winter. What I got from it is that these guys call it a pickeral, so therefore it's a pickeral. And according to the research I did, it definitely is a pickeral. And what we call a pickeral up here in Canada is NOT a pickeral, but a Walleye. Which is what the Americans call it. I hate to say it but the yanks are right on this one. And they are damn good fishermen. I'm a good fisherman but I've seen Americans do well on lakes I've got skunked on.

  • "Other common names for the walleye such as wall-eyed pike, pike-

perch, yellow pike &jack salmon --are misleading because this fish

is neither a pike nor a salmon. The name walleye refers to its large

glassy eyes which, like cat's eyes, allow it to feed in dim light at nigh" THERE YOU GO OUR PICKEREL ARE THE SAME DAMB THING AND THAT IS NOT A PICKEREL END OF STORY THIS WAS COPIED FROM A CONSERVATION WEBSITE

  • you call it pickerel because its slightly slitghtly realted. our pickerel is the same catch one and hold it up to a god damb pike like that one trust me i fuckin hate filleting pike it sucks hard to do and it tastes like shit compared to true walleye or pickerel. massive difference PPL IT NOT A FUCKIN PICKEREL

  • """""""""""""In some parts of its range, the walleye is also known as the colored pike, yellow pike or pickerel (esp. in English-speaking Canada), although the fish is related neither to the pikes nor to the pickerels, both of which are members of the family Esocidae"""""""""""""""

  • actually we DO CALL IT PICKEREL you homo. i was just being polite and calling it walleye so not to comfuse you. go catch an actual pickerel and catch that same fish and i swear to you youll see a huge difference the taste EVERYTHING, JUST BECAUS THEY MAKE IT RELATED DOESNT MAKE IT A PICKEREL. YOU SISTER IF YOU HAVE ONE MARRIED SOME DUDE AND YOU BECAME BROTHER IN LAWS DOES THAT MAKE YOU THE SAME BLOOD NOOO IT DOESNT. SAME AS PIKE AND PICKEREL

  • """In some parts of its range, the walleye is also known as the colored pike, yellow pike or pickerel (esp. in English-speaking Canada),"""""""""""""" although the fish is related neither to the pikes nor to the pickerels, both of which are members of the family Esocidae."""""""""""""""" Ok buddy who sent me a message this is copied and pasted from facts what you jsut read.

  • my only pickerel was 9 inches and i caught it with a worm. it was an awesome catch.

  • WTF..... THAT.... IS... A.... PIKE... for those of you who think it a pikerel LOL WOW for ppl that think that is huge lol and not to mention pickerel are so obviously different. everyone in the boat is going what is that. uhhhhhhhuuu you guys sure can tell. besides that pike is small. oh you americans.ive used spoons bigger than that fish. PIke not a pickerel

  • My guess is u are Canadian? In the State of Maine we call those "chain pickerel" its latin name is Esox Niger it is a memeber of the Esocidae family including Pike, muskies, redfin pickerel ect. Sry if in Canada they cant call Walleye by its real name hence the reason of this arguement. So it is infact a PICKEREL. What do u guys just call anything that looks sort of like a Pike a pike even if it isnt?

  • ITS A PIKE LOSER!!!!!!

  • thats not a pickeral and its small

  • ya thats a grass pike or what we called in north bay ontario a hamerhead just good to feed a cat.

  • you know.....i am sorry the vid si properly labbeled, walleye are called pickerel in canada...tho walleye and pikerel are not even in the same family , where pike and pikerel are, sorry for that last post.

  • it looks like what we call a grass pike, they feel like a snag at fist and when it gets closer to the boat it starts fighting. Pikerel have a large fin on thier back and thier eyes are kinda glassy looking on the tops of their heads(because thier eyes are photosensitive they hang out at the bottom of the lake till dark),making em easy to identify. That is an average sized pike, and pike are still tasty if you know how to get the 5 boneless fillets out of em. Thier are some great vid on youtube:)

  • I live in northern ontario canada and i've fished pickerel all my life and that's a pike. NOT A PICKEREL! any one who thinks it's a pickerel doesn't know his fish. well done one your catch though. any fish caught is a good day out. ;)

  • hahaha it sat in the seat nice fish

  • Ive gotten bit by one of those things lol

  • Also I would like to say that pickerel in NJ dont get HUGE like in Canada and many people from New Jersey dont want to drive to Canada or other states to catch a big one. it is considered a big fish in NJ. stop trying to make this guy feel like crap.

  • Nice! This is a Pickerel. If you dont look very close then you would think it is a Pike. But watch the part where the fish is on the seat and you will see the vertical bars or also called chains. That is where the pickerel gets its name.
