@AYEMAQ No the history is rather more complex than that, a weak government in the UK depleted forces after scoring a "political" win in the 1st Afghan War, this led to the defection of many troops to tribal leaders and the destruction of the remaining forces in the 2nd Afghan War. The 3rd Afghan war was not lost by the British Army, but was ceded by the UK Parliament who were concentrating on Europe. That is irrelevant though, do the Pashtun people want independence, or to be part of Pakistan?

Their reasons for doing so originally were to stop the Soviets, but it was continued to divert Pashtun Independence Advocates into acting for the Pakistani State (and a greater Pakistan). The "Pakistani" Taliban is an entirely different beast, it is Pasthun Independence Advocates pushing for control of the Pashtun/tribal belt.
