  • I smashed a 600 Meucci once,,,,

  • Can we see the rest of the match? lol I wonder if that was hill/hill or he had to imprevise or something.

  • the humble man tony robles

  • like a boss.

  • Good thing it's a cheap cue. If not, you've broken your neck. LOL.

  • If Strickland did that same exact thing everybody would be like "he's such a baby" Archer does it and nobody cares.

  • @Gsitz89 maybe that's because strickland really is a baby?

  • It's not the cue's fault.

  • tony's look is priceless after johnny snaps the cue

  • That was CLEARLY by accident, he didnt mean it, which is why its funny

  • i dented the shit out of my predator cue when i missed a 9 ball. I feel so retarded.

  • At least he's mature about it when he breaks his cue. I respect that and I myself have gotten the urge to break cues before.

Now Earl Strickland on the other hand, he smashes it on the ground like an old lady lol

  • That seems to be one of the ways Johnny lets out frustration. I watched him do that once in Tampa when he missed a shot playing straight pool.

  • Any proffesional pool player have ever broken a cue.... maybe not on TV, but training at home.

  • "I meant to do that."

  • arguing on the internet is like being in the special Olympics. Win or lose, you are still retarded. About that video - it happened to me before that I broke a cue - shit happens. And this there was an accident, so all those who say 'what an idiot' better shut the fuck up. And those who are saying 'even my grandma would've played that shot': I would like to see you playing under the pressure those guys are under. So shut the fuck up as well. Try and argue about that.

  • He's quite classy... He didn't snap the queue all angry like, he was just frustrated with missing shot and kind of out of I don't know... hating himself, he bent it and it snapped. Now if this was Strickland... :P

  • That's whats up. . The Brooklyn HEAT. I never seen Tony upset . I never saw Tony lose Either. I never saw any of your Pro .matches .. But I racked for him a couple times.. Too bad i did not play with you guys a year earlier . However Ozzy taught me well . .I seen many ppl break sticks ,Playing Ozzy.LOL Paradise Lounge .

  • lol wow i bet that snooker place has got hundreds of cue's!!!

  • Yeah it looked like an accident least he wasnt like Earl strickland not only break the cue completely and cry about it he just sat back down.

  • i through a 500 dollar predator into the ocean. And i dont even remember why, cues come and go

  • @pigdisposal

it's threw when you throw something and through when you go through a tunnel

  • @pigdisposal LOOOOL!!! I did too but mine was over $1000 thats the night I quit 9ball/ Pool..

  • @BloodyFingerz really what cue was that and why did u quit nine ball

  • @omega666ification It was the Predator P2 Oak Series.. I miss that damn cue and I regret doing what I did.. It was tough for me.. I used to run tables at times but I didnt see myself getting better.. I used to play 4 hours a day but I played shit many times.. I said to myself fuckit.. Why put all this time if I aint going tournaments..

  • @BloodyFingerz am glad u used predator cuz i have a question does the predator shaft really make a difference its said to give u more english how true is that..... because right now am using a scorpion ja-04 i got it a few days ago and am thinking of getting predator but is it worth the price will the shaft help better my game ?

  • @omega666ification well my advise to you.. GET THE PREDATOR! LOL seriously speaking this is the best cue ive ever used BIG difference between predator and the others.. theres almost no deflection when you use english so u dont have to adjust much.. Ive been using it for a long time and went back to the bar cue and I couldnt use english properly cause i got so used to that cue.. Its an amazing cue.. they have an upgraded shaft as well Its worth your money i tell you that.. I give it a 5 Star!

  • @BloodyFingerz mmmmmm since i will have to get one but the problem is am in st.lucia and u.s dollars is twice our currency making it more expensive for me i bought the scorpion cue at 110 u.s dollars and it converted to 320 e.c dollars thats why am a bit reluctant to buy one and it doesn't perform but since u say it makes a difference i will buy just the shaft put in on my cue and if plays well i will buy the cue thanks anyway

  • @omega666ification and one more thing u do u think a predator 314z 2nd gen shaft will fit my scorpion cue here's the link to the specs plz let me know

  • @pigdisposal the owner of our pool cafe offers 5$ cues if you don't want to destroy your own. ;)

  • @pigdisposal Lost my cue in a taxi in Bangkok. Cues come and go.

  • @pigdisposal PFFT FOR SHITTY POOL PLAYERS, US SNOOKER PLAYERS FIND THE RIGHT CUE & STICK WITH IT....

  • @pistolpeeroy lol I feel like I'm the only snooker player who respects the game of pool and doesn't troll on every pool video he sees. Why can't we love both? Such a stupid argument.

  • @pistolpeeroy you tell everyone else to sort their lives out, yet you spend your days trolling on pool and snooker videos. Do you understand the definition of irony?

  • @outdoorpooltable HA YEH ITS WHEN YOU IRON YOU SHIRT DICK....SORT UR LIFE OUT.

  • @pistolpeeroy I can now understand why you act the way you do. It is because of your obviously severe mental handicap, I hope you one day get past that. My life is sorted out, and yours clearly isn't based on the fact that you've been using that same insult on youtube videos for the past five years.

  • @pigdisposal when u are drunk buddy

  • @pigdisposal Maybe you should use that money to learn how to spell "threw".

  • Thts the sound of a 3000 dollar pool cue snappin

  • No, it's not. That's a POS scorpion cue.

  • @mowiejj sure its a 3000 dollar cue?? i thought he plays with one of his pretty cheap cues of the scorpion line?? srry if im wrong

  • hah Its custom made for him dont you think..anyway hes not the one paying so I dont think he cares.

  • @dkjackass----he just needs to replace the shaft----that is all that broke

  • suki(frequent customer) ng(of) alog butas(missing of pot) at tako(cue)

  • If you actually watch the video and look for his hands and elbows just before it breaks you can see his grip tightens and he pulls down with a decent amount of force to make it snap. It was no accident. He intended to snap it :P

  • LOL.. I broke a Schon just like that... was mad, but felt it was an accident

  • ronnie o sullavin cant play well in other countreys or were he has no support i bet no one suported him in those tournements and what are u saying that snooker players are rubish look at pool players cue action totaly wrong and i will tell u what is wrong

1.they hold the cue to tight

2.they hold it to far back

3.and there brige hand looks retarded

4.and they havent even got the for point right

  • haha ur right but then because pool is so much more popular than snooker (and easier to play for beginners) so obviously there are so many beginers out there. And of course snooker players are very good at basic forms and have correct grip and all that, but again, it depends on the player, not on the kinda game

  • @s1llyvi3tb0i

Maybe I am wrong, but I think snooker is more popular around the world compare to pool, just not in America.

I love both pool and snooker and just giving an honest opinion, Snooker players have much more fundamental training compare to pool players, the one thing snooker players lack while shooting pool is their break. I wonder how snooker players will do in a 14.1 match... hmm

  • @kingChin0 not as good as you'd think. they don't have the table knowledge and don't play the best patterns. they all come to the table likethey can make anything butyou turn the heat up and they fold

  • "pool players cue action totaly wrong"

How the hell is it 'wrong'? Having a smooth and flowing cue action just adds to the feel of hitting large balls. Wu Chia Ching has a windmill cue action and he won the 2005 World Pool Champion at the age of 16.

"1.they hold the cue to tight"

    Subjective.

"2.they hold it to far back"

    Subjective.

"3.and there brige hand looks retarded"

    Subjective.

"4.and they havent even got the for point right"

What the hell are you talking about?

  • this isnt snooker you dumb ass twat ... go back to school and learn something you retarded cunt

  • hahaha you think you're cool :D

  • this vidoe just shows how dodgy that cue stick is.

  • Table too small and pockets like buckets!

  • true dat snooker takes pure skill

  • then why you watching ?

  • thats not snooker.

  • UK sucks... I bet I could beat you and I'm from America... I agree a ten year old could have made that shot but shit happens.. He came up to fast and needed to folow through and stay down but he didnt oh well... No reaon to break the stick but like I said shit happens...

  • Comment removed

  • american pool players suck tit balls i play snooker and i live in uk i know 10 year olds that are better than your proffeshonal player ur pockets are huge its bigger than my door any snookr player could of done that shot

  • The next time you see those ten year old's you should ask them for some spelling lessons.

  • why dont you check out some videos of your boy ronnie osullivan playing some 9-ball. there are of few of them online here and maybe you'll get a lesson from your boy. even he says it's a different game. try a little education before you make idiotic statements.

  • I HATE THESE TYPES OF PLAYERS WHO BREAKS THEIR CUES...that is a bad temproment.

  • looked like an accident to me actually..

he snapped it and was like "wtf!!?" :p

but I guess a cue doesn't snap like that, unless it's shit quality

  • lol you wont play just like i said......called your bluff kid....idiot

  • kid your an idiot and when you get to be 18 I will play you and then break your friggin jaw for the disrepect you have shown,.....you didn't post anything and if you want to play you have action playing 10 ahead for 5000 in jobs billiards in nashville.....raise up and get some bitch. Pm me your name and when you plan on playing......if not shut your mouth and go back to playing pocket pool

  • & U R a complete idiot and buddy fucker to Stiletos loser. You seem to be a genius on pocket pool. What a dipshit.

  • looser??

  • if you are a player get on az billiards and post in the main fourum. Looking for a game in tn should as the title will get my attention.

  • lol....your some kid wanting to be something he is not so you get on here and post rediculus comments like this.....your actions on here a by far worse than anything archer has ever done......you don't need to try to play me or anyone else....you will get you feelings hurt. You have acted like a teenage kid with no respect and a large mouth......I assume that is what you are.....just shut up kid

  • "rediculus" comments huh? Yeh, at least now I know the intelligence of the losers I write to on here. Wow, are you fucking kidding me? "Ridiculous" is seriously a 5th grade word at best. As far as my actions and Archer's...this is not a fucking pool table loser. Stop sucking Archer's dick and wake the fuck up loser.

  • what kind of prick snaps their cue over something as trivial as a game of pool, stupid twat.

  • derby city classic I mean

  • well the video is still up and if you were any kind of player you would have been at the music city open or the derby city open last week. And your from flordia lets play when ever. And the offer still stands for you to play archer. Why don't you come to nashville and play races to 15 nine ball for 500.......you won't and I'll bet on it...do you get on az billiards?

  • Hmm, he's a pro, I'm a masters...why don't YOU play me? Oh wait, because somehow you diverted the attention away from the fact that this was about him committing an unsportsmanlike act into some bullshit dumbass internet phantom billy badass wannabe theme...that's right. DUMBSHIT. How about you shut the fuck up and stop defending someone acting the ass and promoting being an asshole in this sport? Gee, that would hurt your feeling huh?

  • Luckily someone took the video down so we don't have to see Archer act like a fucking loser in it anymore. He should be ashamed of his actions. Breaking a stick over a missed shot...that's what a real man does.

  • what......just a minute ago it was like a f#ucking chat room up in this mother f$ucker........now all the sudden its quiet as a church.......lol.........no response?

  • There was no response probably because unlike you, others had a job and wasn't going to sit on here waiting for your fucking response. But I guess in your loser mind, that made you right ROFL...you're a dumbshit dude...just because someone is more talented, we're supposed to respect him no matter what a dick he is...you probably jerk off to his videos faggot. Get a life loser.

  • Doug from houston...and flordiapoolgod...I tell you what why don't you come to tn and put some money up and quit talking over the internet....I tell you what I will put ten thousand up for you to play archer.......any takers.....all your doing is talking trash. Your not a grandmaster and not a ref. Please get a life and respect those whose talents are greater than yours. Yes I am a fan of archer's and have been since the early ninties. He played at one time as good as anyone ever

  • Oh, whatever loser...bring your ass to Vegas in May fucknuts. If you want to fucking gamble, bring your ass to Vegas. I won't be tough to find. I'll be at the top of the Master Division loser.

  • So if you are that good who are you? I know who won the masters and grand masters in the BCA in Vegas last year. Somehow doubting you are either of those guys, neither would waste their time BSing on youtube.

  • Let's see, "top of the Masters" somehow in your feeble head means I won it? Whut your fucking hole loser and stop trying to be an internet sleuth. DUMBSHIT

  • Ya, "Top" usually means first fucknut. So you come onto internet message boards and brag about what a champ pool player you are, get called on it by someone who actually knows the champ, and then get all defensive.

Your a goofball hiding behind a bullshit anon youtube name. Go actually win something in pool, because I could spot you the 6 out on forum debates and send you home without cab fare. Because of the two of us I guarentee you are sucking hind tit on the intellect front Mr poolgod.

  • So when you hear or read "top 10", then they really mean "number 1"? I simply said at the top of the board and since top is opposite of bottom, it could even mean top half you fucking shit-for-brains wannabe moron. Stop acting like some fucking champ and shut your fucking cockholster. I've won Masters competions and hence I am a GRAND MASTER. Are you saying a player who finishes in the top 10 sucks? Come on loser, lets here you say it. I thought so, so shut the fuck up.

  • That's funny, for someone who actually claims to be a master bater like yourself, you sure came up a loser in this argument...your entire argument consists of the fact you know the winner of the masters at a BCA tournament and that somehow disproves that I am generally at the top each year of that list? You couldn't beat your fucking meat in a circle jerk you fucking faggot, so stop acting like you accomplished shit. I'm sure as a pool player, you're just as bad.

  • I will leave you this final embarrassment: Honestly, if you are going to lay claim to being more intelligent than someone and brag as if that's your gift, in that same sentence, perhaps you should spell third grade words like "guarantee" correctly or else it really diminishes your point. It also does't hurt to formulate your sentences properly. Fucking RETARD.

  • In summary, I own you here, I own you there and I own you everywhere. Whether it be a pool table or a debate or for heaven's sake an argument over intelligence, you will ALWAYS be below me...just like your mom.

  • Keep saying it and it might come true. You are either a kid or have the mental state of one and either way I have given you way more of my time then you are worth, adios.

  • Yeh, if I were you, I'd run out like a pussy too. You just came off bragging about how intelligent you are while spelling a grade school word wrong in that same statement. You and nissannut make a good team and should pair up and get hitched. Neither one of you is smarter than a 10 year old and neither can play pool. Both of you act as if you have half a brain, so get together and own ONE at least. DUMBSHITS...Cya pussy.

  • U R a tard. Why do you care about others so much and is Johnny Archer your boyfriend or what dickface?

  • So by your fucking faggot logic, if Roger Clemens walks up and cracks a bat over a fan's head, I'm supposed to respect him because, and you said this "he's more talented than I am"? Do you realize what a fucking dumbshit you are? I don't care how talented someone is loser, if you want to act like a bitch, then accept the consequences. Now if you want to come give me money in Vegas (since you think I'm no good and ont a grandmaster), then bring your ass to vegas, else SHUT THE FUCK UP LOSER!

  • You are an average joe that thinks he knows everything....guess what I have a friend that has whats left of an extremly nice one ofa kind rick howard that eric durbin splinted in 4 pieces after loseing his temper in a ring game.....I know you don't know what all this means but...still. Archer wouldn't break a cue in the middle of a match unless it was a game loseing match. These players at this level are not bothered by such things. I sat 10 feet from archer during a recent match......

  • So fuck your comment about someone you don't know being an "average joe" you fucking illiterate and clueless moron who knows NOTHING....wow, you're a big fan of some fucking loser and want to suck his cock...great. Now I'll let yOU prove it...send me your video of a stick breaking in the same position with no pressure added...he broke it dumbshit, end of story...he didn't look at ALL surprised...he was pissed and broke the stick...the RULES say that's END OF GAME, but they won't call it on TV

  • Obviously you're a simple fag hag ARcher fan and you're on here crying in his defense...but that doesn't change the fact that he broke this stick on purpose...let me ask you this before we go any further though wannabe....are you actually trying to tell me if a player DOES break their stick on purpose, they aren't breaking any rules???? Let's start with that before I school you any further.

  • I mean, you started out wrong with stupid comments like some child about someone "being an average joe"...let's see how much more you can snap out your mouth...I'll wait to see if you want to tell me that breaking a stick in a match is perfectly fine..at this point you're simply defending your boy (you're a fan, like he fucking knows you or something, lol) with NOTHING except saying he didn't purposely do it, and that's a lie. Just let us all know about your great knowledge if its legal or not

  • missinuts, you're a moron..just because the guy wasn't called on the foul which happens at higher events doesn't mean it isn't a foul. I'm not a pro, but I am a grand master in two different organizations, so maybe you want to test me out for talent....but you're also sitting here saying "Archer wouldn't break a cue" and you obviously don't knw him that well and being a fan doesn't make you his best friend tard...I've seen him break one before. He is discreet here, but still wrong.

  • It isn't that players at that level aren't bothered by those things either tard, it is that his opponent is simply maintaining a level of professionlism and being a better person. Once again, it doesn't make it wrong. Pick up a fucking rule book before you start making an ass out of yourself on the internet pretending to be best friends with the guy and acting like you know your ass from a hole in the ground.

  • look dougnhouston......I play pool alot. I reguarly go to the music city open and the derby city and have shaken this mans hand as well as some of the best in the world. I play 5 plus tournies a month and not one would penalize you for this. I have watched earl break more cues than anyone on earth and not a penalty. And archer posesses more talent in his pinky than you will aquire in your lifetime. He didn't try to break his cue on purpose!!!! He has better sharking technices. Trust me I know

  • You're a fucking FOOL douchebag...and you don't me, so why would you talk about how much talent someone has over someone you don't know? Another fine display of your ignorance...the biggest dumbshit comment you made is he didn't break this on purpose or it wouldn't be penalized and your support for that stupid argument is that you PLAY POOL. Efren Reyes? Heard of him? He's from Houston where I am and I see him all the time. Efren laughed at this. Know what I do dumbass? I REF...IN VEGAS.

  • YOU REF IN VEGAS. As a guess, you ref BCA league matches, right?

Winning games is Archer's job, not his hobby. Pros aren't playing for shits and giggles. When winning puts food on the table, sportsmanship is secondary to what's on the wire.

Breaking one's own cue would be a terrible way to shark. Trust me, Robles wasn't complaining. He didn't go pro to have fun, and he doesn't give two shits whether his opponent respects him.

  • People PAY MONEY to watch players like Archer and Robles get to it. Of course the players are expected not to shark one another. If they did, they'd be ripping off the spectators, and the advertisers as well.

Keeping asses in seats. That's as far as their sportsmanship goes. Pro refs understand this and act accordingly, or at least they should.

If some overzealous ref disqualified a near legendary pro like Archer for breaking his own cue, guess who would lose his job? Not the pro.

  • Wow, then you back this up almost with some intelligence....right, they'd be yapping at one another, slamming their stick on the table..they'd commit some embarrasing acts...but the don't refrain from it simply to be a good people...its AGAINST THE RULES...it isn't called as much at this level especially since he did it on the down-low as much as possible...but it doesn't change the fact that it is against the rules. They DO have rules and sportsmanship rules do apply.

  • Your misconception comes from some unreal tought processes...the reason the ref here didn't step in has nothing to do with him losing his job or crap like that...generally and AS A REF, I'm told this all the time...when it comes to making judgement calls, we don't act upon them UNLESS THE OPPONENT says something...If his opponent had said something, the refereee would back him up. Just because his opponent is more decent than he is, don't defend his crappy action.

  • It is'nt any different than referees in any other sports...you see refs in football and basketball penalize shit that others don't too...that doesn't mean what the player is doing isn't wrong. Apply some simple logic..there is a specific rule that states clearly that breaking your stick is an act of poor sporstmanship and may result in a ball-in-hand for the opponent. You can't be more clear than that. Yeh, pros get treated better and get more leeway...doesn't mean they were right.

  • Oh, that's right because NO PROFESSINAL POOL MATCHES EVER OCCUR IN VEGAS right? My goodness, no, I'm not JUST a BCA referee...I referee in professional matches as well. And don't minimize those guys at lower levels because those aren't just hobbies either...many professional players started out competing at the lower levels...they dont' just APPEAR POOF as pros. Your last sentence in the 2nd paragraph...wrong...sportsmanship is still part of the game...You obviously don't get it.

  • To me, it just looked like he did it by accident. It wasn't like he snapped it over his knee...

  • You and the people who gave thumbs up to this know NOTHING about match play in pool or LOGIC for that matter. Do you honeslty think NO PRESSURE on that stick would cause it to snap like that? His hands are tight on it and he pressures it across his neck. You don't break a pool stick like that "accidentally". Duh, he did it like that to be subtle because snapping it across his knee would be too obvious. Being subtle doesn't change it from being unsportsmanlike.

  • It is too bad that some people can be so easily fooled though. It is worse that more than a few seem to be. I don't know if logic simply fails you or are you just not real familiar with tournament play, unsportsmanlike conduct or sharking? Either way, what he did was unsportsmanlike and it's too obvious he broke this stick on purpose. I'd give you a $1000 stick if you can break one across your back like that without applying the pressure to do so. Physically impossible.

  • Considering that about half the responces on this video are from you, close to the maximum allowed characters, it seems you have a dislike for archer beyond the norm.

I've seen people hold the stick like that after a bad shot in real life, and of course holding the stick like that puts alot of pressure on the joint but hardly intentional.

It is hardly advantageous to him to break his playing cue during a match for some phychological reason. Whats he going to play with now? His break cue?

  • Well most of my responses are not out of a dislike of Archer, but ignorance of people who are clueless. So that's a poor assumption. The pressure you put on a stick laying it as he did will NEVER break the stick. You obviously haven't seen Archer play before. He's a very angry player. The last comment was totally out there though...you don't think a player has more than one stick, especially a pro ? Come on now.

  • The primary part of your question that ameteurs seem to be unaware of is this action affecting his opponent. Do you think if he broke the stick across his knee it would affect his opponent? Of course. Displays of anger by an opponent are a mental interruption to the incoming shooter. If you have never played anyone in any sport that exhibited anger and I'm sure you have, then you'd realize this. His action was more subtle, but the effect remains the same. Watch his opponent's face.

  • Every time I see someone making a comment defending Archer saying this wasn't intentional which is ludicrous at the least. I then wonder if you're defending Archer or your own past experiences because you don't want to feel your own actions made you an unsportsmanlike player. Just a note. The guy obviously is angry and he breaks his stick on purpose across his upper back. It's unsportsmanlike. But pros esp. on TV do not get called for it mainly because it is on TV and they want to save face.

  • I guarantee you if this was not televised or it happened in a Masters event or something lesser and a referee saw it, he'd be charging that player with a foul. Seeing me comment against his actions isn't a sign that I dislike Archer, but a sign that I dislike sportsmanlike conduct in general. It is unnecessary and players with attitude have no place in the game of pool.

  • I do have a question for you. Have you ever played pool? Have you ever even held a pool stick? I'd like to see you put up a video of you hanging your hands on a pool stick in the manner Johnny Archer did and let's see how easy it breaks...in fact, go ahead and purposely break it. I'd really love to see this so you can demonstrate for others who have defended this unsportsmanlike act just how difficult it is to break a stick that way. Pressure from holding it will not break it...EVER

  • I wouldn't try to do it - I would be too concerned about damaging my neck, yet another reason as to why archer. I don't see muscles tensing to cause the break even on slow mo. Thats the whole point, it would be hard to break a stick like that without a considerable exertion that is not shown in this clip unless the cue had some fault. Holding it in that fashion puts considerable pressure but the cue should be able to handle it. He was just unlucky that his cue had some manufacturing flaw.

  • The cue didn't have any fault. He snapped it. If he felt the cue had any fault, he'd have looked at and inspected the cue and that's something you know before you shoot. The guy knows his stick. Stop making excuses for him. He snapped it. You're reaching way out to try to find some excuse for his pathetic action. Are you in love with this guy?

  • dude do you seriously have to comment this much on one video damn get a damn life or a girl or somethin

  • Oh go fuck yourself loser...if someone else wants to fucking comment, that is their perogative..who are you the fucking comment police? DUMMSHIT LOSER FUCK

  • If someone else's comments hurt your little fucking feelings, then ignore them and move on your illiterate fagsuck

  • god damn dude chill the fuck out i wasnt even talkin about to u i was talkin about dougnhouston hes got like 10 paragraphs on this one video

  • I don't give a fuck who you were talkng to...who are you the fucking You Tube police? There's not set limit for how much someone can write, so get off the guy's dick. You sound like a fucking putz bitching about it. There's always some fag commenting about how much someone writes..who cares? Are you his fucking mom? ROFL

  • Thats great yet when Ronnie O Sullivan ripped his tip off that time in snooker he got penalised for it.

    Classed as unsportsmanlike.

  • Poor Johhny I remember when he was almost unbeatable for a while ....then like every other champion except Efren and Buddy he started thinking about missing.

  • Tony should have jumped up and pimped him in the eye but he's too nice of a guy to do that, in the video it actually looks like Tony tries to console him.

  • thats the dumbest thing that you can do in pool it aint the cue its the player

  • Fucking child

  • when was the last time you had to make a ball to collect a pay check ???? i think that id be pretty pissed off too

  • Yeh, well unfortunately you fail to mention the other part of the game...sportsmanlike conduct is ALSO part of making that paycheck and being unsportsmanlike can lead to not getting that paycheck much quicker. If you're going to throw in that aspect of this, then discuss the realistic entirety.

  • The question should not be whether he meant to shark him or not .......when a player does something like that it cannot help but adversely affect the incoming players concentration....It should not be tolerated,

  • EXACTLY and I've said that 100 times; sharking isn't about INTENTION...sharking can be an unintentional action that can adversely affect your opponent. SOmetimes out of disgust, a player can say "good game" and its these comments that now END games whereas the incoming player does not have to shoot. MOST of sharking is out of reaction like this and for some reason, those on here who do not play tournament pool do not understand it. THe ref was wrong here. This game should have been over.

  • Can you just explain to me what sharking is please?

  • Sharking is any action that you take whether open or subtle during a match or game that has an emotional negative effect on your opponent that generally is a distraction that can affect his ability to shoot. Essentially negative actions that break the concentration of your opponent fall under sharking. He tries to be subtle here, but it is unsportsmanlike to do what he did and it has an effect on the incoming shooter.

  • I dont see how that was sharking in anyway, shape or form. He did it right after his shot, not while his opponent was shooting, and as he walked from the table. Him and Tony are good friends and even Tony knew it was just frustration and tapped him on his way by. Sharking is the idiots of APA and BCA leagues that after they miss stay at the table and chalk up while your shooting, or stand in your line of site, or even like Mike Sigel, continuing to talk to the audience while his opponent shoots.

  • chk out 15 sec... He changed his grip. He is pissed off with his shot. Part of the game is missing thus losing. Poor sportsman i would say. Not intentional but definately pissed off? what ever term u would like to use, still not the right respect u should give your opponent. My 2 cent.

  • why is being pissed off with your shot disrespectful to your opponent?

  • hmmm u are right also... I do get pissed off at times. Maybe just the sportsmanship part.

  • You are correct, it is the sportsman part and falls under "sharking" your opponent.

  • It's very simple. It is called sharking. When you act out in an unsportsmanlike manner, it breaks the concentration of your opponent, thus pool being a sport of thought has rules to prevent it. It's a gentleman thing; this isn't football.

  • why is being pissed off with your shot disrespectful to your opponent?

Because it is unsportsmanlike and unsportsmanlike conduct effects the mental aspect of the game. The better players (unlike many of these bar leagues) have a mental aspect to the game and it is unsportsmanlike to act in such a conduct that interferes with it.

  • Ok, will shall have to agree to disagree. I don't think it was sharking.

  • I mean you asked, I just told you. Agree or not, coming from a referee, I'd hope you wouldn't hurt a team if you played for one by acting like this and taking a loss for them or yourself for that matter if you play in a tournament. I can tell you now, you will called for sharking and will lose 100% of the time. Referees don't need to have your opponent bring it to their attention. The only reaosn nothing was done in the vid above is these guys are pros. I'm sure someone said something to him.

  • It was a Rhetorical question, I can't afford to break my cue, that's for sure!

But I get annoyed with myself if Im not playing well. Maybe you are a perfect person with no emotion, but Im not and neither is Archer. Doesn't make us bad sportsmen.

I just don't agree that it is sharking. If my opponent is getting angry with his shots, if anything, it encourages me. Like I said, Archer is the only person who knows for sure. It would be reasonable to give him the benefit of the doubt.

  • You have it wrong. It isn't about being a perfect person and getting annoyed is fine. He could have gotten upset and did everything he did MINUS breaking his cue. Do you think throwing the bat in baseball after striking out isn't unsportsmanlike? This is the same thing.

I can't even say that he being the only one "knowing for sure" is even an opinion. It is very obvious he applies enough pressure to break it and nobody accidentally has a stick break over their neck w/o adding pressure.

  • The questoin wasn't too rhetorical. You asked why, lol. Anyhow, as I said, regardless of how you feel about it because the mental state of your opponent seems to not concern you, if you chose to break your stick in a match, you would be penalized and you'd be asking a referee why. I guarantee you that 99.9% of the time, a referee will end your game.

  • Ok, thanks for that advice, I will try not to break my cue.

  • Well, again, it is your cue, lol. Hopefully you wouldn't do it, but honeslty, in a match back home and not a larger venue like Vegas, they probably wouldn't care. Most don't care if you reach into the pocket to catch the cue ball either. At Vegas though, they have some tough rules. They are all developed around preventing sharking by any actions you can think of.

  • I'll tell you how finicky referees in Vegas can and will be. I saw a guy in a team tournament in BCA in the Masters level put his hand in a pocket to catch the cue ball and hand it to his opponent. The referee interrupted their game and gave the guy a loss. There is a specific rule in BCA that states that "breaking down your stick will conclude a game" and then the rest is opon to interpretation by the referee under Unsportsmanlike Conduct where they are trained that the act is unsportsmanlike.

  • That's interesting. I would expect that kind of thing in snooker, but Ive always thought that pool was a bit less strict. In the crucible one year we had one guy forget his chalk. He lost a frame due to that as he wasn't ready for the match.

What a 'friend' of mine does every now and then is start taking the balls out of the pockets when I have an easy shot on the 9 to end the game. It annoys the hell out of me!

  • Aha, your 2nd paragraph...you are annoyed by that and some wouldn't be. There is in fact a rule that makes that Unsportsmanlike conduct as well. It states clearly that others watching the match may have a valid interesting in watching all the way to the end of a game. To concede in any way is unsportsmanlike. Him putting balls on the table when you are on the 9 - same difference.

It's a little more strict than you think I guess, but it should be. Players have the right not to be sharked.

  • thats fuckin brutal.cock loving ref needs a slap.

  • I don't think he did it intentionally. I think he was very pissed that he missed that shot, walked away probably gritting his teeth to keep from screaming and pressed a little harder on his stick than he meant to, probably not realizing how hard he was on it. My opinion.

  • Yeh, well, I think you have to apply common sense...it takes a LOT more than a "little hard" to break a pool stick by bending it that way. He placed it just where he needed to and snapped it in frustration. That's very obvious.

  • There are several rules that cover this actually, but what he did was unsportsmanlike. There is a rule in BCA that states if you break down a stick, you end the game. He literally broke down his stick. I don't agree he did it unintentionally. He got upset and he broke his stick, period. That's very unsportsmanlike and a form of sharking. You don't unintentionally snap your stick across your shoulders. It takes pressure and he knew exactly what he was doing. Very umprofessional.

  • unless you're archer how would you know if it was intentional or not? Even if he did it intentionally we all loose control sometimes and get angry with ourselves. nobody is perfect.

  • Common sense tells you he applied pressure to that stick hard enough to break it. Do you realize how hard you have to bend a stick to break it? It's obvious he intended to break it out of frustration. That's unsportsmanlike and falls under sharking. His opponent has every right not to have to put up with that. This isn't about anyone being perfect, and if you lose control, then you can pay the penalty.

  • who is he playing against? tony robles?

  • I felt this way last night, dropped my stick. We are the worst critics of ourselves. Every serious pool player has at least once said, " I will never play this %#@$&^! game again"!! It happens.

  • it doesn't seem to be intentional but it sure is embarassing=)

  • check the other player,he's trung his best not to break his bollocks laughing...he can't look in the same direction as Archer.

  • I'm sure he did'nt say to himself before the match started if I miss a piss easy sitter I'm gonna snap my cue on my neck....it was an accident,he was obviously so disapointed with the miss he never realised how much preasure he was putting on the cue,he looks very suprised when it snapped.Wonder if he had to play the rest of his match with his break off cue?

  • I can't believe he wasn't disqualified for poor sportsmanship as he should have been. Nobdoy should act that way at his level. At the LEAST, that game should have been over at the point he snapped his stick. I've seen referees call games in Vegas for a player touching the cue ball as it goes into a pocket on a scratch which is a poor sportsmanship foul and it is a loss of game. That's too bad. Great player, but seeing this lessens my opinion of him as a players AND a person.

  • well arent you the drama queen "but seeing this lessens my opinion of him as a players AND a person. " relax it wasnt intentional.

  • Considering my comment was about Johnny Archer and had nothing to do with drama as YOU just created, lol...sorry I hit a bad noted and spoke about your boyfriend. You and Johhny go kiss and make up.

  • There are alot of actions professions commit that are not intentional, but when you are that level, you have a responsibility to act according. Apparently you weren't brought up with those decent values. If you actually have ever BEEN a main even in pool, you'd know they have rules against that type of behavior making it unsportsmanlike, intentional or not, thus my comment that I can't believe he was allowed to get away with it. Your ESPN experience doesn't let you see that.

  • there's two scenario... either he is just disappointed with himself, or he is trying to shark the opponent. Either way, its not really what you would call A CLass sportsmanship... something he would to be remembered for.. Anyway he is one of the many good players in this game, but im sure everyone has their ups and downs and this moment was his down.

  • poor guy, you almost feel kinda bad for him.. i dont even wanna laugh..i mean put yourself in his shoes, its embarassing

  • you all are stupid johhny archer is a great player has one of the best breaks...so what if he snaps his cue he will just grab another one no big deal.

  • haha what a prick

  • Dude, if O'Sullivan started playing pocket billiards he'd generally be the Lord Jesus Christ. He may not beat some of the real nameless hustlers that exist out there, but he'd beat most pocket billiards professionals. Without a doubt.
