Alex starts with a tool-ish, know-it-all brand (of course he knows it all -- the answers are on the cards), which is amplified by a sort of Napoleon complex. But at the end of this episode, during his meet-and-greet with contestants, he said "you were doing great in the first round, but you just folded there in double Jeopardy." Which may be true, but it was delivered with an especially prickish pleasure.Truthfully, I cannot watch the show anymore...
We taped this episode around 1 August -- it was the first taping session (5 shows/day for two days) for the new season. Alex's perm was especially tight and curly, and I think he had some fresh lifts in his shoes, too.
Recorded this from TV - edited out the commercials that would have really been a hoot and dated the episode.
Technically this wasn't LITERALLY in September, they have to had actually taped this episode in June or July didn't they? Did the studio give you this tape of your appearance or was it recorded from TV?
Wow WPTZ is mentionned! It's the Vermont NBC affiliate located in Burlington, which serves also as primary station for the closest provinces of Canada up north. "Jeopardy!" still airs on WPTZ today, along with Wheel of Fortune.
It's from 9/4-9/7/1990, as Alex mentions its the first week of the seventh season. He was wrong about champions repeating as champion during the first week of a season as shows 3-7 of the previous season had Bob Blake setting a then five day record with $82,501(others have beaten his five day record, both with the old and the new dollar values)
@zachhoran Also, during the first week of Season 3, there was a repeat champion as well. Roger Storm and Marc Wade became repeat champions during that season's second week.
@zachhoran This episode is from September 5, 1990 as I can tell not only by the intro, but also by how the DJ! round logo appearing in one of the monitors when returning from the 2nd commercial break.

Why do you say Alex was a complete tool?

THis is the week the maximum amount a five time champion could take home raised from $75K to $100K. Also the week the Challengers debuted.
