  • That IS a nice sounding horn! I'm familiar with this spot too-not too far from where the eastern section of the Mount Airy Branch (actually the main line until 1905) once branched off. And, yes, not far from the start of onetime Plane #1. Anybody remember THAT?

  • @bullfrog1954 thanks . the rails now are actually closer now to where the horse/mule pulled original track was before the line into mt airy . you can still find parts of the roadbed  if youoknow where to look .

  • @picturethisalso I know. I've been exploring the area since the late 70s and was last there this past November! Went to the level section between planes 1 & 2! Amazing how many people who are heavily into CSX/B&O know nothing about this interesting section & the inclined planes! The Mount Airy Tunnel replaced all that about 100 years ago! Plane #4 clearly visible from I-70 west!
