I just listened to another version of this and it was nowhere near as exciting as your version. The way you play it has a lot of colour to it and a real urgency. I'm sure Khachaturian would be delighted!
I wouldn't tell anybody to slow down with a toccata, especially with as formidable one as this one. That sort of composition invites you to revel in its complexity and challenge. And especially for a young, talented, fast person, it holds its peculiar kinds of charms above and beyond interpretation.
In time even more could come out of it. But at this stage, it's pure ferocity and feeling. I wouldn't rob anybody of it.
You sure are talented, but i would recommend that you slow a little bit especially in the beginning, this piece is supposed to be fast but it's not a running competition. and try to work on the drama of the middle part (i agree, it's technically difficult), just slow it down a little bit and accentuate the music despite of the speed.
This is my favourite performance of this piece I've come across on YouTube. It's clear and not overpedalled as many of the other performances are. The way you play the descending arpeggio figures that start on that top B are stunning and the balance between your hands is perfect too. You don't look nearly as exhausted as I feel when I've finished playing this piece. Thank you for posting
wow! you play this song really well. I listened to you play this before I started learning it, and listening to you helped me. There are still some points in which I think you could improve (as could I). I really think that the beginning of the middle section was a little fast. Keep up the good work!
wow! best version i've seen on youtube of this song... perhaps a bit slower in the middle section would be more interesting but still very good... such a fun song to play
i noticed you dont use a lot of pedal in the beginning section (and when it is repeated), do you think more pedal sounds too muddy there? just curious to get someone elses opinion on it
I love this!
I would complain that it is too fast, but you are able to maintain clarity and control while blazing through the passages fast speeds.
Nice work with dynamics and your contrasting articulations in the various sections.
I am learning to play this right now, and I'm sure I will be referring to this performance many times. :)
