To stop you worrying, Lydia never dies, she gets knocked down but that's it, you may also use her to train on if you really wish but she may leave you. If you did not know this "thumbs up" so everyone else knows.

@eliphant8 Actually Lydia will die. Normally when creatures attack they will stop attacking her when she kneels and turn their attention on you. However it is possible for her to die. I have had it happen, I have known others who have as well. When she dies she will be in the Whiterun's Catacombs.

@Swissv2 I know that now because I had to go get her and check if I could the other day, and yeah, she died, I only ever use the Dark Brotherhood initiates because they truly cannot die. (I am pretty sure they cant anyway)

you've got to equip Lydia with the ax so she kills things instead of summoning the wolf, the ax is enchanted and does lots of damage while the staff summons the wolf they both do very little damage

i play as a mage too, electric attack dint work on electric things..i learned tht when i was attack by other mages with flame abilities and notice there werent affected by my attacks...oh and when dragons attack i use those swords and axes, they deal alot of damage and i need tht since lydia died on me and i couldnt bring her back =/. lik ur gameplay though =D

I read a lot of these comments and most do not understand this game at all.

Lydia is summoning familiars because she has a mage staff of summoning.

Lydia is also fighting these things with it and it is a two handed weapon.

This staff does little damage to these creatures. These are poor choices Rydar is making.

Rydar should take that staff away from Lydia and give her a one handed weapon the best he can find or make so she uses her shield as well.

Rydars toon needs better mage spells.

Did it ever acure to you to use your highborn spell in conjuction with your fire spell on enemies ? Freeze them then break them to pieces with your fire spell ! Another thing is this ! Any mage is King if you know what the hell you are doing ! A good mage should be able to take on anything by him self and defeat it using the right apells together !

ou and remember... if you let fight alone to Lydia while shes getting all the hits and you only watch dont be amazed when she dies... i encountered you in several fights running away while Lydia stands and fight... you are a mage ok, low armor and all of that, but isnt an excuse to run away... if you want to stay at long range buy a dam firebolt book and attack from long distance while using the dual casting destruction... i think you are the hero... not Lydia... and shes doing more than you...

Hey Rydar... i like this game but can you please use a little more your head while playing ? you got a really lot of skills and you always use the same... i think you better lvl up one of all the paths, you dont do damage with your destruction spells... thats because you are always using summons, if you are going to use summons, lvl up summons... i think you shoul use your shouts more often but USE YOUR BRAINS... you used an ice shout, the enemy was on floor iced, then you used a fire familiar..

And Dwarven spiders use shock, ergo are shock resistant. You'd have a lot less trouble if you used fire.

And with regard to armor, as I said before spells like Stoneflesh, Oakflesh, Ironflesh, Ebonyflesh, and Dragonhide are made to substitute armor for the Mage. There are three or four very efficient perks in the Alteration tree that make it very worthwhile. In the perk called "Mage Armor". With that maxed out Ebonyflesh (Expert Alteration) awards the caster a 400 armor rating so long as they aren't wearing any other armor.

I will presume that Rydar won't be taking advantage of the tremendous loot in this ruin, so I will let anyone who doesn't know in on a secret: Dwarven Metal Plates (any size), Dwarven Struts, and Solid Dwarven medals can all be salvaged and melted into Dwarven Ingots, which can be sold for 30 gold each. I walked out of here with close to 200+ Ingots (not including the store room he overlooked). Easiest 6k I've ever made.

lightning aka shock does damage and magica damage, ice does damaga/stamina damage and paralyze for a few sec. fire does damage and enemies on fire get extra damage. so lighning deplates enemy mages magica, ice stops them in their track by sucking their stamina , and when their on fire they get extra damage.

dude your lv 7 you should at least explore a bit before quest i just got the game myself on Christmas day and I am a lv 11 red guard some of the quests are ridiculous and I can't kill anything so I am just riding a horse looking for enemies to kill and lv up while I am at it.

if ur a mage and are havin trouble like rydar is id recommend doing the main quest:gray beards. its gives a dragon power that lets you hit ur enemies with a really powerfull shockwave that pushes them back to the back of the room giving u enough time to recover from close combat.

duel wielding the spell firebolt wth perk impact is also good in close and sniping enemies from afar. they stagger everytime their hit and gives u enough time to rush them wth firebolts.

after lydia died this saved me.

the reason you dont do that much damage to the stronger creatures is because the spark and flame spells only do 8 damage each, and the creatures keep getting stronger.
