Some of the tips in this video will work to get rid of the S-pop (sounds like a lisp effect with a bad mic.) Otherwise to get around a lot of this, just get a good mic and record using a screen in front of the mic. You won't need to process so much after afterwards.

Kinda sums it up for me. Watching him totally *destroy* his vocal recording was almost funny, dude doesn't seem to know what the presets are doing which is rule ZERO of mixing. I wouldn't call this anything like mastering, sideshovideo has it right. Doesn't matter what software you're using. :-(

If you're getting a mechanical sound after using noise reduction you've got it set too high. Don't set it any higher than 60%.

@Raw1DaBest The percentage of noise removed. It should need any higher than 60%. Just select an area that is nothing but background white noise and then use "Get profile from Selection". After that highlight the entire vocal track and run noise reduction.

Also another tip, record vocals in Mono, not in stereo.

And you don't have to tell us the numbers in graphic eq as they get larger because each band is a high number than the previous by default. It's how it's set up from within. Right on - the Cool Edit, I just switched from Audition 3 to Sony Acid Pro. I found out when I make big songs with a lot of tracks, my computer skips. So far I haven't had that problem in Sony Acid - it's much easier to use too!
