The NOLA P.D. must have had a lot of pull to get away with this. The killings started when Essex started a fire and when the fire department was climbing up ladders, he began shooting at them.

Nice documentary but definitely incorrect. I was a student at U. of Southern Miss. and was on my way to New Orleans after the Senior bowl. They shut down the interstates going into New Orleans.

There was only one shooter. Sadly, the film showing them attacking the rooftop bunker shows police that were hit from their OWN ricochets. It unfolded live on TV. The shooted layed dead on the rooftop. They assumed there was more than one because of all the carnage.

I lived about an hour outside new orleans and watched this with everone else. I was twelve at the time. I am amazed how one man could do so much damage. This occured over a three day period I believe. I don't believe "shooting white people" was a BP policy though. He used a carbine too. I have met NOPD cops in the 90's who were still bitter about Essex. He cut a deep wound. Someone needs to make a tribute video similar to the SLA tribute.

Mark Essex was alone.

In the confusion the police actually ended up shooting each other while Essex lay dead.

The circumstances that brought this on was the previous racial violence in the previous 2 years

where police had repeatedly shot and killed unarmed teens. The city did nothing about it and The Black Panther Party in New Orleans had also been completely immobilized through violent provocation and finally looked up.
