It makes me appreciate this game a little bit better than before, but I guess my real gripe about it is why a concept like this ever really belonged in a series like Sonic the Hedgehog in the first place.

I'll admit, I was pretty put off and repulsed learning that this game was in the Sonic series for the simple grittiness of Shadow with a gun, but I can kind of see now that there's at least some reasoning to it since, story-wise, Shadow has amnesia so the choices he can make in the game are only out of not knowing what side he belongs on. And of course they reveal that Shadow's purpose was to defeat Black Doom all along.
