If you start a fight, the other person has a right to protect themselves. The DA's office is now prosecuting such fights at the beach, especially related to localism. But Surf Fight 2, which I posted but Youtube deleted a long time ago, their calling it “inappropriate content” told the rest of the story. I am not condoning violence and surely not a beating but if a competition is taking place and you are asked to leave and don’t, something bad will come of it. Where I live and where virtually anyone in the mainland USA lives, if a competition is going to take place IN ANY SPORT, with permits to the area, and you are asked to leave and do not, the police will take you away and if you fight them you will get a beating BY THE POLICE, arrested and jailed.

The guy who got beaten up deserved it. He deliberately provoked a fight with some well known, heavy locals. And for what? To show what a big dick he has? It wasn't like they were sending him in because he was at their local. I am not condoning violence and surely not a beating but if a competition is taking place and you are asked to leave and don’t, something bad will come of it. Try doing that on land on any ball field anywhere and you will be dragged off and probably arrested. Not sure how it works in a water event, perhaps there is no water police and locals deal with it.

that kid got more than a beat down. the fight came to the beach and the surfer was pinned down and got annihilated - lost 6 teeth - the whole fight is on the bodyboarding movie called 'vague opportunites'. the kid shouldnt have been surfing there because it was the bodyboarding competition area. but the bodyboarder shouldnt have thrown punches, even though he was in the right.

Perhaps people do not realize what is going on. I dont like to see anyone get beaten or hurt but for Christ Sake, there was a competition going on and this kid was asked to leave the area. Where I live and where virtually anyone in the mainland USA lives, if a competition is going to take place IN ANY SPORT, with permits to the area, and you are asked to leave and do not, the police will take you away and if you fight them you will get a beating BY THE POLICE, arrested and jailed.

This is during a bodyboarding contest. The surfer decided he wanted to surf there and to hell with the contest. If you ever notice during pro contests they have extra people in the water in case someone wants to paddle out anyways. I surf and still would respect the bodyboarding contest. Guy got what he deserved.
