  • So complicated! Thanks for the demo. LMAO!

  • Парень ты поработал хорошо !

  • WTF HOW SIFUN SO EASY

  • The Auto-Siphon actually does a pretty good job of keeping the sediment out until there is nothing but sediment in the bottom. To be honest, this thing is harder to use than one thinks. Getting all the beer out while not oxidizing the heck out of the beer on the other end while keeping the siphon pressure going with 2 hands in a challenge.

  • Mike ... I notice you stick that auto-syphon all the way down to where it appears that it is touching the sediment... is that true?... or is it keeping the sediment from flowing in?

  • This is just a really bad video, sorry.

  • Awsome.

  • @kiwiboyhard1 It actually didn't turn out to bad. I drank it before anything horrid could happen to it. One mistake I'll never make again is to let a video run, showing faulty equipment, that's for sure.

  • Hey Mike I noticed a lot of air bubbles in the tube as it was siphoned. Did you modify your auto siphon in any way to aerate or is that the way it normally functions? I'm looking for ways to aerate while transferring cooled wort to my primary and this looks like plenty of aeration going on with no fancy gear. Thanks.

  • @CarpeDiem601

LOL. I'm not trying to aerate at this point, but basically its just an auto siphon and a tube that is slightly to big for the racking cane. It draws in a little bit of air as it siphons. One thing to mention though is that you will lose your siphon often if you don't have a good seal. Maybe you siphon and just have the wort splash on the wort in the carboy it would suffice. Or you can just shake it up!

  • @mikebiewer Thanks Mike - I'm reading about some extremists using scuba gear to aerate, lol. I think I will just keep the siphon hose clamped to the top of the carboy to it splashes on its way in and then give it a good shake like you mentioned. Thanks for the quick reply!

  • The issue with air is the tube is to large. a smaller tube or a hose clamp will fix the problem. I think. great demo of the auto-siphon though.

  • @loknfwrd

Agreed, that damn tube was a little to big for the racking cane. So yea, you can see a bit of air going right into the beer. My bad, but the general idea of how to use the siphon is there. Thanks for noticing :)

    I appreciate the comments!

  • I like pie!

  • I don't know if you still reply to this, but what thickness autosiphon did you buy? Also, did the tube leading into the second carboy come with it or did you have to buy that too?

  • @DrAwkward22 It was a while ago, but I believe the siphon came with everything I needed. You'll want to double check though. Just make sure you've got the siphon and some extra tubing. I've found the wand isn't really needed if you have long enough tubing.

  • @mikebiewer Thanks, thats really helpful! I really want to get into mead fermenting, but I also don't want to screw up my first time.

  • @DrAwkward22 I like me some mead to!!!

  • Am I crazy or does it looks like he is oxidating the ever living sh*t out of the beer?

  • @crabapple1776 thats what I was thinking. In fact I had to rewind and do a double take.

  • @crabapple1776 It is oxidizing, for sure. I didn't realize until after I was done talking that my tube was sucking air into the beer and I couldn't keep the siphon going. Which sucks, but I've since replaced that equipment. Thanks for noticing! LOL.

  • @crabapple1776 lol, ya just a bit. I saw that and gasped. Was there a hole in the tube or something? If you could repeat that on purpose it would be really useful for racking into the primary fermenter.

  • Aren't you worried about aerating your brew when you transfer to the secondary and let it splash like that? Sorry if this has already come up...

  • thanks that help

  • def a must have for any home brewer well worth the 10-15 bucks. makes getting the last bit at the bottom of the carboy "easy as pie." the fermtechs also have a filtered tip so you wont get all that sediment into your secondary. HAPPY BREWING!

    on tap: cherryweizen

    primary: heavy pale ale

  • @MikeAnnarose

Thanks for the comment! Yea, if you can keep it from breaking they come in real handy. Some people gripe about sanitization with them, but I soak mine in oxy clean after use and soak in sanitizer before using, so I'm not sure what the deal would be.

    Have you had any issues?

  • no problems whatsoever. some people dog mr beer products but I still hold to One Step. Doesn't seem to alter the flavor. Ive heard of some people using a very diluted solution with bleach. I like the convenience of one step and never have got to that level, any input?

  • @MikeAnnarose

I use Star San now. I used to use One Step, but I like the foaming action of Star San. The foam is a sanitizer as well so if you foam up your carboy or something with just a little bit of Star San you fully sanitize the vessel! Love the stuff.

  • @MikeAnnarose I still use old fashioned iodine & water, mixed to the correct PH level. The first batch of beer (a pumpkin porter) I tried with that method was among my best, and every batch since switching has been far better than when I've used the One Step. Was still using the Mr. Beer equipment (with glass bottles) due to not having space for a real setup.

  • For sure!

Do you brew a lot? I'd like to hear more about your brewing.

    Thanks for the comment.

  • Great vid man, definatly worth it especially if u brew regulary
