  • A simply stunning voice! She can go from a wet, lispy voice to the most incredibly powerful sound in a split second! There are so many layers to this performance.

  • Brilliant!!

  • wow. Amazing, loved it... emotional...

  • I know that so many other actresses are talented in this role but I think Ellen Greene is the only woman who really IS Audrey. It's not the lisp or her voice...She really understands who Audrey is and Ellen gets the campy nature of the show and just toes the line of ridiculous. She's simply amazing.

  • AMAZING

  • Amazing, tremendous, world class. I will never tire of this. I just adore this live performance. She is truly unique.

  • She's great- you should recognise whan someone is acting and she sure is!

  • I guess everyone really likes bad singing. Seriously this sucks. She's not on pitch, and she's not sounding like she's screaming on purpose. She's screaming and she sounds awful.

  • @beckadonna

That's her character. She's acting. I've been a follow spot opreator for a show where very talented actors/singers HAD to sing bad, because their character had not hit puberty yet. So, in this case, her character can't sing very well...so that's how she portaying it.

  • @beckadonna Honestly you just don't get this. Seymour is supposed to be bad and Audrey has that off beat quirky voice. It is the character. This is not an opera it is a broadway comedy musical.

  • Is Seymour's nose fake?

  • Other than that she's gorgeous and is an amazing actress

  • How does someone sing like this without losing their voice? That can't be healthy

  • Excellent performance. Love her Audrey.

  • i like her... but this was just awful.. she's trying to be such a diva when she's singing but it just didn't work >.<

  • her voice starts sounding bad when it gets deep but when its high pitch she sounds adorable

  • shes horrible

  • Pahkky - this is ellen green singing

  • WOW!! stunning. She sings with so much honesty.

  • Holy cripes! I saw this tonight for the first time. I always thought no one could be better than Ellen Greene singing these songs in the film. Now I found someone singing them better: Ellen Greene live. This is astounding. Tremendous talent!

  • Wow Ellen Greene was sooo hot! beautiful body, and face she had...

  • she's my absolute IDOL! fantastic character actress and her voice is so unique. So so moving

  • she is fantastic... wow... such passion and heart from that woman. she gives me goosebumps everytime i hear her. you have to watch it, you cant turn away, she is brilliant. she is what is everything everyone is searching for. she made it because this wasnt for anything other than passion.... bravo! wow..

  • Seymour is actor Teddy Kempner. Hope that helps everyone :D This video/cd is really worth checking out and it's still pretty affordable over at amazon.

  • what i love the most about her performance here and in the film is that she's not acting as "Audrey" and singing like "Ellen". She truly commits to the role. That's what the other "Audrey's" are missing!

  • She always owned this part, and always will.Beautiful! Thanks for posting!

  • He's awful. She's fabulous.

  • I used to think that her voice was just outrageous. But in a bad way. Now I sit here with my mouth wide open, in amazment. She is incredible, and puts so much heart and effort into these songs. She is just incredible, if only more people would see that.

  • It took me until I saw this video's name, (my whole 25 years of life, not to mention this musical version) to get the coincidence between Ellen's name and the song.

  • She borned to play this role

  • Seen this about 50 times now. This is one of the best performances of a Broadway song I've ever seen. It's PERFECT. Well done, Ellen Greene.

  • Oh My God! She just exudes emotion, passion, and sexiness. Blows my mind.

  • These two are incredible!

  • I was born in 78 and grew up in the 80s. I love Little Shop of Horrors along with a lot of other 80 movies. A time I will never forget. 80s was the best. Ellen Greene was awsome in Little Shop along with Rick Moranis. They better never make another Little Movie. IF they did it would ruin the original one. But overall 80s movies was the best in my opinion. Today movies are crap for the most part.

  • @Fireblaster291

    yea 2 is enough.

not sure what they'd make of a 3rd one in this day and age

  • do you know who's playing Seymour?? who the girls are??

  • That last note is amazing.

  • She makes my hairs stand on end....

  • She has a beautiful voice.

  • She's beautiful. simple as that. I wish I was Seymour just so I could be with her! LOL!

  • if you are playing audrey ever remember this: you don't have to be ellen greene, just be audrey. don't even be you just audrey.

  • i love ellen greene. i used to think she was awful. my bff still does

  • I have no idea how she sings like this! I love it! Its very original

  • @leahnicole009 She has a lisp in real life.

  • @iLovesMomo i know. its sort of makes her sound like a 3 year old, yes super sexy at the sametime

  • She should dye her hair blond.

  • ahhhhh I love her!!

  • She's so cute...

  • She's got a great singing voice but it drives me nuts 8) she's an awesome actress though

  • i'm sorry but she just screams :P she looks mental in suddenly seymour

  • @MrAaronWomball she doesn't just scream, she "BELTS" if you were ever in the audience when she sang, it sounds beautifl!

  • Did the guy have any teeth?

  • @BOWYERD999555 HAHAHAHAHAHA

  • @BOWYERD999555 it's funny - i thought the same thing when I first watched the VHS of this show.

  • LOL!!!

  • Wow I am blown away.. Dunno what else to say except I'm gonna watch it again

  • Seriously shaking my head at the people who don't realize that the voice is her being Audrey... the character is supposed to have that lisp.

  • @leahnicole009 I get it but that dont mean that her voice is not annoying

  • Does anyone know who the guy is that sang with her?

  • I love how much she gets into the acting, but WHY the dichotomy in the voice? And why is it always "Sih-mour"? Ellen works that role, but gosh, the singing aspect is painful.

  • @iluvcheezitsheyhey I think she was sick at this concert

  • She is just INCREDIBLE! What a talent!

  • She owns it. Such emotion. Can't get enough of Ellen's performance.

  • Ellen Greene will live FOREVER!

  • she was in her 70's when she did this tribute

  • @naonka ....what? Ellen's only 60. XDD I'm guessing she's in her late 40s--early 50s for this tribute....

  • @naonka She's only 60s. And Hey, Mr. Producer! (where this performance was from) happened in 1998, making Ellen Greene at the time only 47.

  • wow i never knew she went on stage with this! nice 1 Ellen!

  • Loved her, but could've done without the Seymour..:/

  • @etcfreak06 sorry to say but the Seymour arises an absolute feeling of ecstasy in my entire beeing

  • I love how Seymour and Audrey just hug after all of that. Feel bad for the guy LOL.

  • Holy crap, that intro was slow.

  • she reminds me of the mother off the movie matilda

  • @jordanamarsh Isn't she?

  • @urmomstoxicface perhaps she is, haha i wouldnt know :)

  • @jordanamarsh I did a little research; she isn't. Sad, isn't it?

  • @urmomstoxicface truly tragic :(

  • i like this seymour

  • Does anyone else notice she's crying? THAT is passion. She rocks

  • is it just me or does seymoure look like a less hairy robin williams?

  • the only person who might of rivaled her is herbert the pervert on family guy!

  • Can't imagine anyone but Ellen Greene in this role! She is spectacular!

  • I don't understand why people feel the need to tear down others to make a point. Ok, you don't like Ellen Greene's voice, that's fine, but don't resort to petty insults and just plain douchebaggery.

  • wow she is just amazing...she did just a wonderful on a stage singing as she did in the movie..I love Ellen..I seen her in a movie name Glory Glory and she blew me away in that as well..she is on hell of a talented actress and singer...she can tear up so fast and believeably...

  • the first time i heard this woman sing was when i was 12 and i HATED it--i just thought she had the craziest voice ever haha. when i heard this for the first time in years just now, now that i can begin to understand the emotion behind her voice, it made me cry. what a powerful performance from an incredible singer :)

  • @thelovelyinkwell I so agree with you!!!

  • Amazing performance

  • As great as this was, it's nothing to what she was at the "Dress Circle Benefit Gala" in London last week. She came on stage as Audrey and sang "Somewhere that's green". Suddenly she stopped and told the audience: -Sorry, I'm blanking... but this just means so much to me. Then she continued, but she got more and more emotional and by the last phrases, tears were streaming down her face, sobbing. After, the whole theatre stood up screaming, crying and applauding. Ellen, u broke us open. LEGEND x

  • Can't get enough of this recording.

  • Holy fuck that was amazing.

  • do you know what year this was?

  • @willdog8975 1998.

  • Boobs.

  • The Reason It Sounds Weird When She Sings The High Notes Is Because She's Singing In Her Real Voice But She's Still Trying To Sing In Her "Audrey" Voice

  • Ugh where's Rick moranis??! And ellen's voice is weird but I kinda like it:P

  • I can't stand her voice....but I love this play so much!!!!

  • Oh my gosh! love her so much

  • is that rick moranis?

  • Phenomenal!

  • i wasnt expecting her to belt out "suddenly seymour" like that i have head phones in a jumped like 2 feet

  • I'm so excited! I will be performing with Ellen Greene in December with the Gay Men's Chorus of Washington, DC. The concert is called Red and Greene. Can't wait!!!!!

  • There's a very distinct difference between her registers, and her high notes sound foggy and kind of strange...but for some reason that only makes the performance more moving. And it really fits the character. She's incredible.

  • brings a little tear to my eye everytime i watch it.

  • When is this recording from?

  • I'm not a fan of her voice. I think it's very strange. But her emotion and passion is undeniable. She certainly puts everything into the role and you can really feel her pain for her past and love for this person. I just wish her singing wasn't so strange.

  • @hmpeterson I think that's a perfectly fair and well-articulated response. It is an odd voice. But everything she's doing is a choice. She can do pretty much anything she wants with it.

  • I never get tired of this. I don't think I ever will.

  • The world truly made a mistake when they let this star fizzle out.

Her talent is astounding. Not a single artist today can feel a song like Ellen.

  • 2 people have no taste in good music.

    This is absolutely fantastic!

  • this made me cry :( She is amazing, truly a legend

  • A goddess of the theater. She is just absolutely amazing and one of a kind. Many others have acted Audrey: she is Audrey. I love her. <3

  • I think she is wonderful .... She had a couple of voice breaks, but her character WOULD break, given the emotion and meaning of the words .... Not 'perfect' and not meant to be .... Seymour Krelborn is not supposed to be a handsome man ... His supposed to be homely and less than average .... No pretty boy Adonis, and this fella fits the bill ...

I wish they wouldn't have cut the songs, but still ... Ellen is wonderful ! ....Amazing ...

  • I first thought that they should have found a better Seymore, but on reflection I think she was the picture and he was her frame. I love her in this role. On a side note, "Wow, what big veins you have Grandma!" Seriously, wow.

  • Damn, the pipes on this woman. Amazing.

  • eww who is that guy playing seymour? he cannot act !

  • she OWNS this. OWNS it.

  • outstanding........ all i need to say

  • Some people love certain celebrities, fashions, music, and art forms; other people go after different types of celebrities, fashions, music and art forms.

We all have different tastes. Either you love something or you hate it. Your opinion doesn't make you a lesser person than the one who thinks differently.

That being said, I love Ellen. I don't give a damn what anybody else says.

  • Am i the only one that finds her voice obnoxious? It sounds like shes like.. whining kind of. I cant really explain itt

  • @katieromanovich11 thats why its so great. its like shes crying every word

  • makes me cry every time!

  • Her voice is amazing!

  • If you look at her '87 rendition on Johnny Carson, she also has tears in her eyes. She is fab, and that is probably the best matched Seymour in terms of pipes for her.

  • she left new york too soon. broadway's greatest loss. she should have done the revival. after all lupone and peters have done their some of their best work in their 50's. come back ellen. broadway and carnegie hall need some great talent.

  • this made me cry. I love songs that I can feel their emotion. Even though she is just a character- I still feel.

  • When was this?

  • she is just amazing-i love her and her voice-she has complete control over it and , well, what can i say-she is one of a kind!!! thanks for posting!!!!

  • @dogcat126 Complete control? I mean... I love her acting, she is brilliant and she has tears in her eyes. It's amazing how much emotion she sings with. But her voice... it's a bit painful to listen to to be honest :O she strains so much.

  • @JWeb4U Age must has taken its toll. What year was this when this performance occur?

  • The Best so Far!!

  • LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE HER!!

  • Never heard someone singing truly from the heart like that in my whole life <3

  • I really have to stop watching this about 83 times a week. Ellen is simply amazing, one of the greatest live performances I have ever seen. Thank you for uploading.

I have this on the DVD which for anyone who is interested is a tribute to Cameron Mackintosh and has many amazing performances - but none quite to this level of perfection.

  • Her singing gives me chills. ^.^ Wonderful performance.

  • Damn that's an ugly Seamore

  • @hexum4201 hahahahhahaha that made me laff hahahaha

  • 6:47 YouTube video: Two stage performances of Ellen Greene from "Little Shop Of Horrors" at 2:27 "Somewhere That's Green" and at 5:30 "Suddenly Seymour"

February 22, 1950: birth of Ellen Greene, American actress.

  • when was this shown? Is this a sing along or the orig musical?

  • "And a toast-uh!" lol, I love how she says toaster. :)

  • she really does bring the song to life, no other woman could give that song the character and voice that ellen gave it.

  • I think that while 'Suddenly Seymour' She's REALLY crying, not just playing the role.

    Really amazing.

  • I've been in love with Ellen Greene half of my adult life on the strength of those two songs.

  • How come the Ellen is always so animated, yet they always pick a deadpan seymore... I never got that

  • Ellen Greene is literally one of my all-time idols. She's incredible and truly talented. There is no other Ellen Greene in the world. No other person could ever replace her performance for me... from Little Shop of Horrors to Heroes, to Pushing Dasies

  • Ellen Greene is literally one of my all time idols. She's incredible. She's a star. There is no other Ellen Greene in the world. No other voice could ever replace her incredible voice for me.

  • holy shit they picked an ugly Seymour

  • They could have got a better looking guy to play Seymour.

  • What year was this made? I just bought her new cd "In His Eyes" it is fantastic!

  • dose she really sing like that or was it just for the prafominc

  • @scottrjmatmsncom . I have her cd she does really sing like that but the accent (lisp) is not as heavy.

  • Elaine Paige was offered the job as Audrey at the same time.......could you imagine !!

  • @Love0me0dearly: I adore Elaine Paige, and she is an angel of music (no pun intended), but she would have destroyed this part.

  • I love her.

  • I had found this once before and lost the password to that acct. I just went through 8 other versions of this and nothing compared to it. Stunning job incredible talent, voice, heart and delivery. Also this is the only one where the actor playing Seymour was the right one for her. I mean really, you need a strong actor with a strong voice if your going to play opposite a nuclear powerhouse like Ellen Greene.

  • you just got to love her <3

  • Ellen Greene is amazing
