Unfortunately, they have a legal loophole. Article 1, Section 10 says "No STATE state shall make any thing but gold and silver coin a tender in payment of debts." The Federal government is not a state. And the Federal Reserve is not a state institution. So technically, no state is making the fiat money. Although I realize this was not the intent, some lawyer could surely argue this and that nothing unconstitutional is being done.

Unfortunately, they have a legal loophole. Article 1, Section 10 says "No STATE state shall make any thing but gold and silver coin a tender in payment of debts." The Federal government is not a state. And the Federal Reserve is not a state institution. So technically, no state is making the fiat money. Although I realize this was not the intent, some lawyer could surely argue this and that nothing unconstitutional is being done.

Would you prefer a picture of a house or a real home to live in? In a time of need, the only advantage I can think that a certificate would have over the real stuff is that a certificate would be easier to light a fire with or to use for after-toilet purposes!
