Loved Anton Rodgers- he was BRILLIANT here! One of the best parts of the whole movie. RIP dear friend, and thank you for all of your fine work, and the pleasure that you brought to your fans- and still continue to give.
Overall, I was not exceptionally fond of this interpretation of the story, but the scenes with this song were absolutely classic. Worth listening to again and again.
our highschool just did their 5th annual production of Scrooge: A Christmas Carol and now this song has been stuck in my head, but the play was awsome
I was obsessed with this movie when I was a kid! I just watched it again- 27 years later and thought I might cringe a bit. But no, it's still completely KICK-ARSE! I'm proud of my 7 year old self for having such good taste. But the freaky thing is, I realise I'm now the same age as Albert Finney when he made it. Scary!! But what an incredible actor!! When I was young, I never realised old & young Scrooge were played by the same guy! Gonna watch it again now- the obsession returns!
@MrPiano90 you should be thankful he is your President...we would take him up here in Canada any day...he is intelligent... well spoken, intelligent and real - or do you long to have monkey man bush back? send Obama up here ,,,he is a real gentleman - we'll take him
@timothyj1966, perhaps you should re-read my comment. I said OSAMA BIN LADEN. Nowhere in my comment do I even mention OBAMA! Besides I do like him and I voted for him. And I hate Bush.
@waitew You are a mindless parrot. Do you even have the slightest clue what you are talking about or are you just repeating mis-truths you read on websites because it props up your personal political leaning? "War for oil" LOL! What a silly and wacky saying. We never got more than 15% of our oil from Iraq at it's peak BEFORE 9/11 and get far less from there now. How is it a war for oil? And the Reagan military build up collapsed the Soviet economy not Bin Laden. LOL. Parrot
@SaraTGinMD Iraqi oil flows ONLY when,IF & to whom the US says it does.We could cut off China. We could off Europe. We could cut anyone who doesn't play ball. It's about CONTROL of oil not how much we import. We got 1st on it (Peak oil). The USSR was bankrupted into collapse by their was in Afghanistan fought by CIA asset Bin Ladin & his mujahadeen network trained, armed funded & put up to it by CIA (see Brezenski's famous1998 interview) What would the Defense budget be with no 911?CIA?$
@waitew We surveyed 100 people and the top 5 answers are on the board. Show me "conspiracy"! X. Aww, too bad! The Soviet war in Afghanistan was mainly ground troops and helicopters it is peanuts compared to the massive financial burden of the nuclear arms and strategic air burdens of the Reagan inflicted buildups. Now get back to Scrooge!
@SaraTGinMD Odd,but Zebignew Brezenski seems to disagree with you. Did you check out his 1998 interview? Know who he is? People wont pay for huge military unless they believe there's a huge threat that makes it necessary to maintain one. If terrorism hadn't replaced Communism as our Big enemy who would the enemy be? And what would the defense budget look like today? People wont fight wars for oil (only a noble cause) so,there all spun that way.Revenge is a good motivator, oil isn't.
@waitew Sure I know who he is. But he's just one man and has his opinion. The vast majority of modern historians will disagree with his take. But since his view supports your own personal political agenda you will latch on to it. Very transparent. But more importantly. Didn't I say to get back to Scrooge? Don't make me have to come in there!
@SaraTGinMD I agree this doesn't belong here so this will be my last post on this subject so we can both get back to Scrooge.Just consider what history is.It's a generally agreed upon set of lies that is vetted, revised, written by the victors & varies from country to country to suit whoever is in power.History is literally 'His-Story' & it aint got nothing to do with the truth.
LOL the perfect song to celebrate the death of Osama Bin Laden. One of my favourite musicals. Listening to the songs instantly makes me cheery. Christmas!!! :)
Don't hold your breath. I've had Ding, Dong, The Witch Is Dead on my hard drive for two years in anticipation of her death and it hasn't happened yet.
Well, thank you very much! This is my favorite version of the christmas carol-even though there are many excellent versions including Alastair Sim's version and Patrick Stewart's version. I personally believe that those are the 3 best.
@kellyberry holy mother of Jesus, you bet it was.I was chosen on two different schools to play to role of jozef ,father of Jesus. At the age of 8 and 10.I refused the second time.the first time the whole audience ,all the parents, were laughing their asses off because i was speaking my lines too early
One of my favorite off-Broadway musicals of all time, and the absolute best song out of the entire musical ! The message is simple, being thankful makes everything worthwhile !
When my mothers mother (my grandmother) dies, Everyone will be singing and dancing to this song though the streets. I will be singing lead ofcourse, dancing with my mother on the coffin like Tom. Come to think of it, my nanna looks kinda like scrooge in this movie, so it would work out REALLY well.

I saw this on TCM last week. Robert Osborn said that Albert Finney turned down the movie right away...at first.. When I was four years old, I used to dance and sing this song word for word, move for move, and I used to use the garbage disposal as my Tom Jenkins hat... I was one weird four year old but hey, good memories eh?
I wish they would either bring this out on CD, or at least have the movie version available on iTunes. All I can find there is the theater version. :o(
60,000 are preying this Christmas to BURY the repetitive George W. Bush Jr., Richard Riordan, Robin Lindon, John Barrymore Jr, and Chris Ciccone Crime Syndicate this Christmas, which my generation, and I have become victims of. May are prayers be answered. +JVA+
My family and I watch this every year at Christmas time! And basically, we sing the songs all year round because they get stuck in your head. My favorite is "I like life." I love this movie!
My mom and I watched this about 3 times a year at Christmas. She's been gone for two (now three) Christmases and I miss her so very much. Mom, this ones for you.....love you so much !
Absolutely love this song and this rendition of Scrooge! It's my family's tradition to watch it every Christmas Eve :) Whenever this song comes on we all bust out in song with it :D Can't wait to watch it this year!
Thanks for bringing back some good memories with this download. The Ghost of Christmas Future scared the crap out of me when I was young..good times :-)
I remember watching this with my now late mum. She loved it, we both did, it HAD to be this version though!! I thank my mum for being the best she could be for me. Miss her so much. Thank you very much for everything mum. RIP (20/12/99)
This is the ONLY version of A Christmas Carol I will watch, my absolute favorite Christmas movie. It's so hauntingly powerful, the musical score is fantastic, the characters are played flawlessly, and I think if Charles Dickens were alive this is how he would've invisioned the story.
@XTheRosesThornX I LOVE this movie! It is my all time favorite movie!!! The music still gives me chills after all these years! Saw it when I was 17 and I am 53 now!!! Perfection :)
@XTheRosesThornX you simply must see the version with Alistair Sims.....THAT is one Dickens would have loved ! This one, the Sims one, and Mr Magoo's were me and my moms all time faves at Christmas.
@mrboombasticx mrboombasticx is correct. According to google, Albert Finney was born in 1936, so he was 34 at the time of the release of this wonderful holiday classic. I watch it every year while I decorate the tree. it is not Christmas without it.
My family went to see a local production of this musical TEN YEARS ago. This song has been stuck in all of our heads ever since. Seriously, nobody can thank anybody without humming a few bars. I had no idea there was a movie version of the musical...until now (I grew up on the Muppets). I don't dare show my family this. It's so good, it would just be enabling them.
P.S. It's such a rousing song, I forgot how utterly grim the context is. It's actually quite heartbreaking.
I was at the league game for my school's football team and we won, and i got everyone in the bleachers to sing this. We even got the oldest teacher at the school to scream, "You woke my baby up!" I got to sing the lead part. The looks on the other team's faces? Priceless!
@huronstone1 don't you just love it when something catchy goes in your head and you just can't get it out and you just can't help but sing along !??!?!??!?!?!? this is one of those songs :D
Poor Scrooge, he has no idea that they are...*sniffs*On the plus side, this is a catchy song and one of my favorites in the film. Still kinda angry the song lost out on the Oscar. Great film, great song, but still...Poor scrooge!
Probably the most beautiful example of dramatic irony I've ever witnessed... irony implicit in Dickens, but really brought out in this film adaptation. Scrooge's cluelessness is just beautiful, perfect, astoundingly brilliant. So, you know, bravo and all.
watch this film close to christmas..the 23rd 22nd..on the sofa..start to finish..mince pies on the table..christmas tree with the lights on in the corner..that is absolute heaven..amazing story by charles dickens, amazing characters, great music..genuine moral lessons within dickens characters.albert finney..one of the greatest british actors of all time..love it..watch it!!!!!!!!!!!
Its just so undescribable how Scrooge thinks they are cheering for him when he's in the coffin. Its awesome how they made it all fit together. Such a freakin great film.
This should be done with Breitbart's Death!!

I was at the league game for my school's football team and we won, and i got everyone in the bleachers to sing this. We even got the oldest teacher at the school to scream, "You woke my baby up!" I got to sing the lead part. The looks on the other team's faces? Priceless!

I regretfully have to say that George C. Scott plays a better Scrooge than Albert Finney or Seymor Hicks...and yes even Allistar Sim.

Poor Scrooge, he has no idea that they are...*sniffs*On the plus side, this is a catchy song and one of my favorites in the film. Still kinda angry the song lost out on the Oscar. Great film, great song, but still...Poor scrooge!
xmenlover92 1 year ago
Probably the most beautiful example of dramatic irony I've ever witnessed... irony implicit in Dickens, but really brought out in this film adaptation. Scrooge's cluelessness is just beautiful, perfect, astoundingly brilliant. So, you know, bravo and all.

Its just so undescribable how Scrooge thinks they are cheering for him when he's in the coffin. Its awesome how they made it all fit together. Such a freakin great film.
