  • I think that Kim Thayil wanted to write a HARD song

  • this performance should have made it on to Live on I-5

  • @XXjConXX I agree with you this is better than the one in the bounus soundcheck cd

  • @str84ever Yeah right.

  • This is sounds fucking great and just like Soundgarden. Their all performing such difficult notes and etc to create a masterpiece! But thats them, Soundgardem gives it there all :) and i love them. Also, Matt is fucking beast on drums!

  • Never knew Arni was so good at drums :S

  • This totally shreds... his voice is so insane! I challenge any critic who says he's lost it or that there is alot of AMERICAN IDOL singers can do exactly what he does... well then run around onstage, play guitar, sing like a maniac and have adrenaline at a high rate and breathe properly. That's all you have to do to sound like Chris Cornell... right?

  • @Metalcohol9 No, your name HAS to be Chris Cornell, and you HAVE to be in Soundgarden. So no luck there !

  • Best vocalist ever.

  • @str84ever Any body who uses the term math rock is a fucking moron.

  • I didn't even know there were live footages of this MASTERPIECE!

  • I see him jump in the crowd in many vids, and every time I'm surprised he comes out fully intact and the masses haven't torn his limbs apart.

  • One of my fave songs by them!!

  • Thank you SO much for the upload! I'm VERY surprised to hear how tight they played this song

  • @CrumpledMount Why VERY surprised? They're Soundgarden, for fuck's sake! They're always tight. "Loosely or tightly, everything fits" with Soundgarden.

  • Haha. At the end chris was just like Fuck it, i'm going off.

  • lol damn i was at this show...ironically i saw rage the same year and same venue. very cool stuff here.

  • @offthetop0

Ha. then if you saw audioslave at the same venue live, that would've been epic.

  • Love this song.

  • excelente !!!

    musicalmente insuperables los Sgarden !

  • Thanks for posting this! Live in ND, dont see this up here!

  • Brutal y magnífico

  • What the hell. I love this song. crazy, insane, angry!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Guitar is bad ass on this one, all of it is!

  • the intro is incredible to this song. cornell's voice is spot on and the rest of the band in sync

  • Cornell's vocals are very strong here.

  • Does the world deserve/need Kim Thayil's rocking riffs again? What an awesome philosopher guitarist! Great stuff!

  • Fucking sweet song...hopefully they'll play it again soon;)

  • Kim is King of Rock!

  • these guys seriously need to have a reunion tour, what an awesome band...

  • @synapsefire123 already did my friend:)

  • @synapsefire123 WISH GRANTED HAHAHAHA

  • Go Kim Thayill on the Fender Telecaster guitar =) Soundgarden and Chris Cornell should reunite and make the world of rock music right again !

  • Oh.

Im mexican, so obviously im not familiar with argentinian slang.

But chris didnt ruin the song at all. Its as good as the album version, if not better.

So i went for the obvious option

    Anyways

Gracias por lograr tu punto con decencia y sin insultos

Sigue escuchando esta grandiosa banda que nunca morira

  • hes actually saying that chris fell

    which he doesnt

so that makes u half right telling him he was wrong

  • this is a most excellent song

i didnt listen to this song at first because of its title

but i wished i would of listened to it before

this is just perfect in every way

  • Chris is sounding pretty good here. This was the first album of theirs I owned, and I didn't really know what to think about it the first few times I heard it because it was so different and more interesting than anything I had listened to before. Great album, and I can still listen to it several years later and find new things to enjoy. Totally in Overfloater right now, and Burden In My Hand is fantastic.

  • yeah this is one of the more obvious 9/8 timings. 5/4 would be like the beginning to The Grudge from Tool.

  • cant ge tenough o fthis track

  • AWESOME version! WOW, cant believe how good Chris sounds in this live version. His sings tough on the record, so you know....live versions arent usually that great. This is nice!

  • no words!

    thank again and again,Gwenwhyfer.

  • fwiw i'm a 42yo classically trained pianist, but also play bass in a grungy band and own a norma jean cd, and my first comment was 3 months old. watch it.....

  • I'm not breaking anyone's balls here but it's fairly clear to me that this is in 9/8 time

  • Bollocks still in pretty good shape, thanks! I'll try and track down Mr Thayil to settle this once and for all. Bach wrote a tune in the early 18th called Joy Of My Soul which was in 9/8, also Three Times A Lady / Commodores, hope this helps.

  • i wish they could've explored this more technical, frenetic style further.

Forever means all is not seen

    Never means forever brings everything

    I fashion will and desire

    Always I and I survive

    Mercurial mind the fire

    Ferrivorous direction and drive

    not too shabby, chris.

  • Yeah it was nice to see this one done live too. There are a couple of odd tracks on that album that you don't hear so much of. An Unkind is another...

  • You mean not too shabby, Kim.

    The guitarist wrote this song.

  • Comment removed

  • Stunning!

Chris' voice is given by god

And just look at Matt go wild!

    They will be legends forever!

  • lol at 3:29

  • Sickest song in 9/8.

  • that's 5/4, same as "my wave"

  • Never the machine is in 9/8 and my wave is in 5/4...2 different time signatures.

  • Definitely 5/4, the first beat is kind of advanced by half a beat just to confuse us smart asses! My grungy garage trio is going through a math phase at the moment.

  • This is 9/8, Matt Cameron talked about it in an interview, and you CAN'T count 5/4 to that man, sorry...

  • amazing.

    go chris go...

with different tone the main riff to this song could be a death metal riff. glad its not, death metal garden would be whack :P

awesome song, one of my favs off that album

  • what a voice!cornell is so fucking great, the best singer ever without any doubt.even though he has been having some troubles with his voice he´s singing so good nowadays.i saw him in december and his voice is intact.

  • haha, ims orry dude. but Kim Thayil doesn't play a Gibson SG. it's a Guild S-100, and no. that does not make me a nerd that i know that. that makes me a fan. lol. =)

  • I've almost lost my shit numerous times to this song!

  • se re cae pobre chriss!!

  • this song is difficult to play, especially for the voice...believe me, extremely hard to sing..

  • ya it can sound like like your struggling but if you see him sing he does thing thing with his mouth that helps. i know that sounds weird. he opens his throat but kinda closes his mouth.

  • It is a bit difficult. But that's only if you're an amateur at Cornell's belting technique.

  • SOUNDGARDEN FUCKING ROCKS!!!

  • Chris Cornell is a GOD!!!

Great Performance He has the BEST VOICE EVER.

I LOVE THIS SONG ITS AWESOME

I love how Chris jumps into the crowd - hes so cool.

  • I have an SG, they're killer. Thayil never used one though, he used a Guild S100 Polara in black, red and white. Real rockers know the difference between a Gibson and a Guild.

By the way, Teles are awesome.

  • guilds are the shit

  • What is cool is that Thayil is playing heavy tunes with a fender and you NEVER see people playing fenders on heavy tunes. Thats how good these guys were.

  • check out jim root from slipknot

    he uses a fender

  • Check out Tom Morello of Rage Against The Machine and, of course, Audioslave, who uses a Telecaster quite a bit. Jimmy Page recorded the entirety of LZ1 on a Tele. Loads of people use the humbucker-equipped Jazzmaster for heavy tunes - check out Feeder, for example.

  • I'd sell my soul to see them play live. Kim Thayil is God thank you for posting this

  • What an amazingly powerful song! Absolutely amazing!

  • that song is probably so hard to sing, its like constantly up there. CORNELL IS AMAZING!

  • Matt Cameron is God's drummer

  • Agreed. This is a very hard song to play, especially the way he is playing it. Everybody talks about how good Danny Carey is in odd time, but Matt remains widely underrated.

  • This is the best version I could ever imagine of a song I never thought I'd see. Now, if you could find a version of Rhinosaur, then I crown thee king.

  • Ok then!

  • even better live

  • So powerful song!
