Just goes to show what I've always said, Ahmed Best's performance was the issue. After all, characters like Sebulba, Watto, and Yoda, that were well acted, didn't make anyone complain about computer animation.

Unfortunately, I have to agree-- Ahmed Best's voice over was the reason Jar-Jar sucked. If they had hired someone else, as they had originally intended, Jar-Jar might have been tolerable. Best decided to do this squeaky, cartoony voice, and mixed with the pidgin English that Lucas wrote, it was disastrous to the character.

The quasi sloppy Jamaican accent of JJB in the original was really a detractor to the plot. This thoughtful rendering with a Scottish brogue and a different attitude was a better character development than the original as well. Kudos.

Personally, I liked the edit where it just had subtitles with Jar Jar speaking Gunganese. It's not that far-fetched. Everyone could understand Greedo, Jabba, and Chewbacca in the original trilogy, so it'd be okay to have the same thing happen here.

At least George Lucas recognized that Jar Jar is divisive, whereas with Wesley his writers felt obligated to frequently "remind" the audience of how much better they he was supposed to be than the rest of the characters. The only reason Picard put up with that little snot was because he wanted to bang his mom.

But his main role is that of comic relief to which he fails miserably. He just isn't funny. GL's sense of humor is horrible. C3PO was annoying in a tolerable way in the OT, but now with the "Help I fallen & can't get up." & "This is such a drag." lines awful. Jar jar is, was, & always will be a bad character.

its just the too silly over the top personality and a voice you can bearly understand ether its gibberish 100% or not.

Fine examples is Minda from Twilight Princess she talks gibberish but is done in a charming way

Abe from Oddworld is alien has a unique voice which blends into the alien world theme but you can understand him its key.

I'm not sure how much of this is played for laughs/parody-reasons, but it's better than the movie version. I think Lucas should find a new voice for Jar Jar Binks and put it in the Special-Collector's-Extended-D­irector's Edition DVD on Blue Ray in 3D release in 2013.

Nah, its nice to see people experimenting with Bink's voice, but the original is better but just needed a slightly lower pitch in his screaming and more understandable dialogue.

Also, the bit where he waves his hands and cries "OH NO!", was far too pantomime.

I remember reading the Manga version of TPM, and it seemed so much better than the film itself, even Binks was pretty good.

I think it's worth doing! Jar Jar should be one of the characters driving the plot because his homeworld is being invaded and his people don't believe it's their concern. If he was more of a smartass or sarcastic, maybe almost bombastic even if you kept in the stepping in the poop scene it could be funny because you'd like seeing characters like that taken down a notch. maybe that's not they way to go, but i always believed jar jar could be salvaged! good luck with this!

When I first watched this movie I was thinking at the very least Jar Jar could have been more dignified, sort of like that general guy during the war, the guy with the whiskers. He seemed like someone who might be interesting to know more about...  less of a screechy sock puppet.
