  • im a male alcoholic and this story is quite mild yet significant

  • I would also like to add, I think alcoholism is not a disease! it is part of an umbrella of conditions that relate to the psychology of an individual. You dont drink for no reason! the reason why you drink says more about you than the fact you drink! Im sick of this shit! americans seem to think if you drink you have a disease! what a load of total bullshit! is it to make money or what?

  • I think that americans should study europe a little bit and know what its like here! esp ireland... too many attention seekers in the usa!

  • @sorted88 "...not a disease! it is part of an umbrella of conditions that relate to the psychology of an individual." I agree. If you study the background of AA, Bill Wilson, and the disease idea, it should be fairly clear and non-controversial that this was taken entirely from an obscure religious sect (oxford group) and almost nothing from science. Still, until you stopped for months, brain PET scans are pretty compelling that your ability to control urges is visibly, dramatically reduced.

  • alcoholism is a recognised illness with health authorities that is fact not from my imagination...

  • If an "addiction" like alcoholism is a disease...then so is over eating...texting too much...smoking....

Face it...its NOT! Kids dont get it..no one can get it if they dont drink or havr self conrole..there is no test for it...there are no drugs to cure it....the problem is societies LACK of PERSONAL RESPONABILITY.

  • You are an enabler, you'll also a fucking wimp

  • ALCOHOLISM IS NOT A DISEASE, ITS A CHOICE! ure nt born addicted 2 alcohol, u choose to put the glass to ure mouth and you can choose to stop putting the glass to ure mouth!

  • Rubbish. True you are not 'born' with a drink in your mouth....but an alcoholics drink alcohol because it is a legal and VERY effective way of blotting out life. The question is... why do they want to blot out life?? Your responce to this viseo screamed of arrogance and ignorance.

  • blotting out life? again a choice in not facing reality, life is hard, but its harder for the loved ones who take the emotional wieght that comes with loving an alcoholic. my response may have seemed ignorant but at the end of the day, despite their problems, wen some1 chooses booze over a child or any other close relation, that to me is extremely ignorant to the values of love and respect.

  • lol. Thats the whole point. Alcoholics have LOST the CHOICE. Why would an individual who has just been told that they will die if they drink, walk directly to the nearest bar and get drunk? Why would a person who has just burnt their house down due to leaving the gas burning when drunk, still take a drink when the firemen have left. Why would someone going for a job interview in the morning, choose to get paraletic the night before? Only those who have LOST the power of CHOICE, that's who!

  • a daughters love doesnt loose power of choice. its never to late to stop drinking for your familys sake.

you can always choose to get help,

  • Wrong...they ALWAYS have a choice......other wise NO NOE could stop....addiction means stopping something is harder....it doesnt make it a disease or uncontrolable. You may not want to admit to yourself that ppl out there dont want to stop..even if they ruin their life...but its true. When ppl deal with WHY they are addicted and WANT to stop...they do. Its not easy but it IS that simple.

  • wrong! For me it was a complete obsession from the first sip i took.... and i did'n'd see this in anyone else of my friends....

  • why didnt u try to stop then when u got obsessed with it?

  • The only ppl who want to think of addiction as a disease either want to get rid of personal responsability and cocequences for their coices or are afraid to be honest and not PC.

  • well said.

  • Thanks.

  • nice

  • I stayed with my ex gf for two years and watched her life regress from severe alcholism thru wernicke karsakoff syndrome all the way to her death. I did not drink with her and people to this day think I enabled her or helped her disease along, except family. This was the darkest days of my life and it truly polarized my belief in heaven and hell because everyday was hell and it is as if DEATH himself waited for her patiently. If you can stop or abstain, undoubtedly an evil drug, alcohol.

  • I think that help for alcoholics is a wonderful thing but i think that it is too religiously based and i don't believe in god so that's why i wouldn't join AA if i became and alcoholic.

  • I need help.

    Please pray for me. Please!

    I have been a Alcoholic for 30-years.

    I hate myself.

  • Thank you. Helped by what you said. Because I didn't start drinking heavily 'til age 40 I've not considered myself "alcoholic", just going thru rough patch. With help I did stop and was free for over a year. Started drinking again 'cause thought I could handle it. I was wrong!

  • I believe i am an alcki..how do i get help??

  • mrchainsaw, if you're serious, you can try calling AA and attending a meeting.

  • Alcoholics Anonymous can help, if you are willing. I am an alcoholic myself & attend & it is helping me to recover.

  • I meant appreciate the honesty!

    JM

  • Thanks so much for your comment. Alcoholism is insidious, and we're grateful to have a woman like Lois tell it like it is. God bless you on your journey.

  • Funny, I NEVER drank until I was 37. As a divorced mother of three, I never considered any kind of drinking. It wasn't "me," I was so busy just trying to keep things in the survival mode, it never occurred to me. Twelve years later, I married a man who drank (quietly) daily, and yes, I ended up doing the very same. Trying to quit now. Appreciate the honest!
