After me sayin my ps works after being put in the oven, this did make it work...... It's back to the YELLOW LIGHT OF DEATH... This did solve my problem. But only got about 5 hrs use...

With the rear of the Playstation facing the back of a conventional FAN oven i left it there for 15 mins making sure the door was open( if not you might need your oven gloves)
In Scotland the weather is freezing so after carefully taking it out the oven, i left it outside to cool down for ten minutes,if living in a hotter climax use a fan this will cool it down.Now try it

your ps3 is running out of thermal paste and theirs a lot of dust inside the ps3 and theres dust on power supply you should check inside your ps3 or take to fuzion electronics for cleaning and replacing the thermal paste with new thermal paste

@0suvi Same here, my ps3 just broke down because of the yellow light of death. So I went Game Stop to ask about it. Then employee gave me some advice. He said it might be a hard-drive failure or it might be overheating. The old hard-drive wasn't working when I connected the Ps3 hard-drive with my computer. My computer couldn't read the memory and it wasn't corresponding to it. So I bought a new hard drive. Turns out it wasn't the case. :(

What I now do is I'll get an air vent that is on the ground and I put the little place of the over heating (I do where my plug in cord goes) and set my PS3 on top of it will cool air blowing at as high as it can go (No Homo) Hasn't happened to me at all since doing that! (And do it as soon as you get done playing your PS3)

i had an ps2 (fat) and it died in like two days they say that it was a short circit but it got soo hot i think it started to melt without running a game. they sent me anouther one in like a month when they said that it would take a week

@naquer13 The best fix is to get it reballed. The CPU and GPU got hot to where the solder spheres underneith them have melted or cracked and lost connection with the chip. Fuck me, I just had my second yellow light of death today after only 107 days. I didnt get a refurbished model but the exact one I shipped in and now I'll be out for the next 3 weeks.
You don't have to call sony. It is better to do if you have warranty on it but if you don't my friend opened his up himself and blew all the dust off. It works fine but he recently had it about 3 times :S To get your disc out hold disc tray button down, and then turn the power on. It does the fan test and your disc will come out :D

Origanlly(forgot how to spell it), the YLOD can happen to you ANYTIME.
So some tips like the 1st one is no good. I got mines while playing Gran Turismo 5.
And here's one BIG tip:
ALWAYS keep a back-up Playstation 3,2,1,PSP,or PSP Go. IT will get boring quickly

i just bought a used ps3 2 weeks ago, and suddenly when i wanted to turn it on it showed me the yellow light and then began to flash red.. is it really over for it then? nothing i can do?

@naquer13 The best fix is to get it reballed. The CPU and GPU got hot to where the solder spheres underneith them have melted or cracked and lost connection with the chip. If you want a quote, email me at: rework-concepts@live.com (no fix, no pay) Whatever you do, don't reflow, you will only be disappointed because it is only a temporary fix. Ask about my crudentials.

If you are on a budget, put a fan behind it, keep it off the carpet, and don't play games that have crazy graphics or a lot going on. QUESTION,
will every ps3 have "it's time"? kuz some of the ps3's that had the YLOD happened outta no where. my bro for example. 3 year old, 60GB ps3, played once or twice every week for about 2 to 3 hours per day and it was left in an open environment too prevent overheating. WHAT THE HECKKKKKKK.. the xbox and ps2 never had these kinds of problems.

@yutubeog I have too a 60gb since oct 2007, i buyed additional cooling system by nitho and recentely changed thermal paste with one made by cooler master. I think that this will prevent my ps3 from Ylod. I usually play a lot every day, so my ps3 is constantly heating a lot. Sorry for my bad english i'm italian.

you gotta treat your console like a piece of hardware. get it new, keep it on for days straight (ive had mine on for like more than a week straight and days straight every other week) and had it since 2008 still no problems. so, while youre under warranty, leave it on so you can make sure the hardwares gonna stand the test of time. remember nintendo? just blow into the cartridge and it worked. treating your system like a lady's just gonna make it a bitch.

You don't have to call sony. It is better to do if you have warranty on it but if you don't my friend opened his up himself and blew all the dust off. It works fine but he recently had it about 3 times :S To get your disc out hold disc tray button down, and then turn the power on. It does the fan test and your disc will come out :D
