You're probably safer from fire on this vessel than on the big Clorox bottle ocean-going liners. C'mon folks - let's grow a pair and make this happen!
Save the Queen! She is safe and this is America where I should be able to choose which boat to ride. I hope Represenative Oberstar's political career is ruiner over this. Thank you Senator Vonovitch and Senator Brown of my home state of Ohio in supporting the Queen. She will survive this.....Oberstar's reputation will not. Oh if he were my grandpa I'd send him to the worst nuring home I could find......
I spent 3 years working on the Queens. I never once was concerned for my safety. The permit needs to be issued. If not, a lot of jobs, history and future memories will be lost. So good to see PT in the last video! It is people like him that make this cause so worthwhile.
It was a long, long time ago and a good time was had by all. It saddens my heart to think I may never dance to the band again and be thrilled at the sounds of the calliope playing. Working on the boat is my answer when people ask "what would you do over, if you could?". Sunning on the gang plank, hanging out on the fantail, sipping cocktails with my friends and the pure joy of getting up the next morning and doing it all again. How lucky we, and all the crew since then, have been. Save herplease
And of course, I gotta add...The Delta Queen crew is the very best there is, true friends, quite a bunch of them we actually consider our family. Makes sense as we consider the "Legendary One" our second home. Deb and I love you guys with all our hearts and sincerely hope that we will "see you on the rivers"...Very, very sad, and this stupidity and congressional greed makes us very angry and totally flabbergasted toward our government.
As said before: When we travel to board the Delta Queen, we sleep that night in our sprinkler challenged, two smoke detector, no night watchman or live in fire crew, totally wood framed house. We travel an hour in rush hour traffic. Onto two planes, non-sprinklered of course, then take a bus again in rush hour traffic to get to the wharf. That night we sleep on the Delta Queen with her sprinklers, smoke detectors, fire hoses, watchman and trained crew. Where do you think we were the safest?
Excellent film. We have been on the Delta Queen many times and have participated in the drills, also have heard the people patrolling the decks at night. There is absolutely no reason to take her off the rivers. We Love her and hopefully we can keep her going. The Mickelsens
Seriously, what do we have to do for the politicians to support this? It's SO simple. The boat is safe. The boat is a piece of this country's history, and has earned the right to keep running the river. Keeping the boat running on the river isn't going to cost the policians or their employee's -us!!!- ANY money. Least expensive, most simple thing they are likely to accomplish in their political careers!
There is absolutely nothing unsafe with Delta Queen & this video proves it. Rep Oberstar & his allies are using this strictly has a bargaining chip in MAL's fight with the union.
Contact your legislators today to save the DQ from becoming another dockside tourist attraction.
Democrat Representative Jim Oberstar needs to realize and maybe learn the hard way by being voted out of office for failure to pay attention to the peoples demands which is to keep the Delta Queen running with a permanent exemption. His lies before members of Congress CANNOT go unanswered. His MASTERS, the people, have spoken. View his arrogant attitude torward the peoples wishes cannot be tolerated any longer.
Clearly the Delta Queen is a safe form of entertainment and transportation. In my flesh, I truly hate those who would continue to destroy every institution of my Dixie home land. The loss of jobs is bad for families and social fabric of communities. While as a Southerner I experience racism in my flesh, as a Christian I know all God's people can work together as all do on the Delta Queen. It breaks my heart that you all are going to displace the Delta Queen's proud crew. May God help us all.
MR. OBERSTAR, ARE YOU LISTENING ???? The spray and wind that drenched you from behind is the spray from the paddlewheel of the Delta Queen pushing you out of office. Minnesotans, vote him out.... please? We need you on this.
Awesome video. I always wanted to go on the Delta Queen. Hope I still can. Probably not though as Congress is too busy voting themselves raises and getting paied off by corrupt companies. Hope we can save the Delta Queen.
My family has traveled twice on the Delata Queen and it is a very safe vessel. Congress needs to get onboard the Delta Queen and see for themselves just how safe it is.
Safety appears to be a high priority for the Delta Queen and this video emphasizes that very well. I can't imagine there's much more that could be done to keep the passengers and crew any safer. Perhaps safety is the excuse used by political powers with ulterior motives who have refused to grant further extensions. How very sad but typical of so many self-serving politicians.
It was safe enough for our military during WWII. It was safe enough for President Carter. Oberstar is just a big bully, and a not so bright one at that!
This is an excellent video - informative and educational. After viewing this, anyone (that means you, Congress) doubting the safety of the Delta Queen would be highly suspect for having self-serving, ulterior political motives regarding the extension of her SOLAS exemption. Congress, we're on to you, and we're watching how you vote. Simply put: you vote to extend her exemption, we vote for you. You vote against her exemption, we vote against you.
Actuarial societies and firefighters know that wood lasts longer in fires than steel and other metals. In the event of a fire on the Delta Queen the crew will have time to fight the fire. Even the Coast Guard knows this.
Once again a powerful and persuasive video. It completely refutes any idea that the DELTA QUEEN is unsafe. Every member of Congress should see it. Please send it on to yours.
I'm deeply familiar with riverboats in general and the DQ in particular. There is really no serious question about her safety and that some Congressman has chosen to make this an issue and to kill this beautiful and historic vessel is simply awful.
Like the plea to Congress video, this video was well put together and clearly lets any naysayers know that this is the safest boat anywhere on the inland waters of America. People have to be crazy to say now that the Delta Queen is a fire hazard!! We can SAVE THE DELTA QUEEN!!!!!
The Mark Twain Ride at Disneyland, or the Delta Queen. The Mark Twain Unsuccesfully christened on July 13, 1955 a 12 min ride under a controlled situation, via an I-beam track. There have been MANY SERIOUS INJURIES AND DEATHS.
The other, The Delta Queen, is a piece of American history, controlled with the latest computer and navigational controls, safety and fire controls. Manned by a PROFESSIONAL staff, trained in safety, and evacuations, only a few minor injuries, and JUST ONE NATURAL DEATH.
My Father was born the year the Delta Queen was started.[1926] She has survived 81 years without incident! She deserves to continue in service! Long live the DQ!!! I am fightng for her exemption in memory of my late father.
Yes, I agree 100%. How can anyone say now that the DELTA QUEEN is not save! I've been saying all along you're safer on her than in your own bed!!! As a matter of fact, how could elect any member to Congress that we care about when they have all those stacks of paper in that dusty old Capitol building just waiting to catch fire and burn. With all those long narrow hallways how would our leaders ever escape to safety! SAVE THE DELTA QUEEN!!!
The Delta Queen represents a great portion of America's river and commerce history, and she was present for a lot of it. That this boat should be sidelined is unthinkable. Shame on he who tries to sink her!
Now, how can Rep. Oberstar still say the Delta Queen is a "fire hazard"? Not that we told him about all these safety facts again and again ... But watching this video and then still claiming that the Delta Queen is a "fire hazard" is pure maliciousness and intent to mislead. Any regular person would be sued for raising such claims in the public. But a politician gets away with this?
Once again Bill, you have put together a fine video of factual information which is not refutable. Thank you for taking the time to put together this great video and show the public the extensive safety features aboard the DELTA QUEEN. Those of you watching this vidoe please pass the link to this video to all your friends and Elected Representatives...suggest they pass it on to their friends and Elected Representatives. Together, we can all do our part to Save the DELTA QUEEN!
An excellent video showing the safety features that make passengers know we can have a safe and wonderful trip. Please do not believe people who say the boat is unsafe, when they have never toured the boat to see the safety features or meet the dedicated crew!

Sadly I believe that Congress has adjourned until the after the election. So no vote will be taken before the exemption expires.
Rep. James Oberstar and Sen. Daniel Inouye should be ashamed of their hand in destroying this National Treasure.
