  • Re the African influence on American music. Yes, of course. But this particular tradition started after a tour in South Africa by an African American group lead by Orpheus McAdoo in the 1890's. A very significant and stirring event. The Zulu choir tradition started right away, and musicians performing in the newly born style were traveling abroad themselves within a few years. Best thing Paul Simon ever did, introducing this music to a wider audience.

  • @skibbadeebo music is originated from africa,, when they were in slavery and had nothing to work with but drums made from sheep skin

  • @katieemogirl You man THIS music? If you ment music in general I can assure you music definatly predates any slavery.

  • American music is so much better thanks to the African influence. We owe them so much!

  • thanks alot for your extremely well informed opinion there mate.

  • No prob buddy. I happen to come from there so maybe my opinion is slightly more than your sarcasm seems to point out

  • Wow...the African influence was sooo critical in the development of American music.

  • Mean Girls Brought me here lol

  • But you LOVE Ladysmith Black Mambazo! :P

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you, Paul Simon for introducing me to these musical treasures.

  • Wow I had no idea that these guys were the ones singing the opening credits for coming to America. And then to top it off in 1939 A solomon linda actually wrote the original and sold his rights for a dollar! And then freaking disney makes millions off this mans song! So wrong anyway good music! To Peter...so wrong. Anyway good music!

  • I knew about these wonderful singers from listening to Paul Simons Music and Josh Groban This sound maybe new to allot of us but I am sure that African Tribes were singing these beautiful songs even before America's Independence. I find them very Spiritual and soothing. The sincerity, the truth, strength, and pureness of heart and soul can be felt in the delivery. Thank You "Ladysmith Black Mambazo".

  • This is True! SoTrue! When I heard the opening song they were exactly how I pictured them to be. thanks ladysmith black mambazo for your strength in the music that you have blessed us with.

  • Can someone please help me... what's that African song with the opening lyric that sounds like aaahhhh ba kenyaah! etc

I thought it was Ladysmith but I can't find it and it really want to listen to it... =(

  • It's the circle of life from the Lion king :p

  • YEEESSSS!! Thank you! :D I am indebted...

  • ha! thats fuckin disneys lion king, hmmm authentic

  • Biography of person singing the opening Zulu line (the only part I really like):

Born May 20, 1964 in Apartheid-ridden Soweto and inspired by Nelson Mandela, 'Lebo M' spent years working hard in the slums and was exiled from South Africa in 1979, but returned 20 years later. He lives with his family in Johannesburg and Los Angeles.

    Yeah, pretty fucking authentic...

  • wtf, wikipedia, copy and paste, job done. Good job slick. You got a song from a Disney film. It shows an animated Africa with American accents. What do you want? Again, authentic, keep it up

  • No, he's South African, which means he has a... come on you can do this... South African accent, yes well done! =)

And unless you are going to prove wiki wrong (I assume you can't)... why bring it up? Why does it matter? Why reply when someone else already answered me? Because you just wanted to stick your nose in. So F off. You want authentic? I went to see Amadou & Mariam in concert in the summer, a band I love. When's the last time you saw real African music?

Now shut up and enjoy the music

  • i used to dance to this song when i was a baby :)

  • i love the dancing

  • leli iculo ingu wu imnandi!!!

  • That was beautiful. I am glad I happened upon it.
