  • Terrible game - so many fundamental flaws in its design. Its sequel was also bad, but SotB 3 was incredible. That said, aesthetically, everything about this game is great, especially the box art. Such a wasted potential - Turrican 2 is way more of an iconic amiga game.

  • One of the best games of all Times! And one of the hardest, too ..

  • hehe what a silly game

  • this level made a cameo on Lemmings Fun 22(not on PC or PSx unfortunatly)

  • I played these for years, never making it to the end-boss.

I would never have played that hard, if I would have known all you have to do in the end is break someones silly toenail!!

  • proof everything can be solved by punching

  • This video went viral on Kuala Lumpur

  • Este es el juego mas chungo de la historia para pasarselo

  • I can only see this at 240p, looks blurry, anyone else get that?

  • the machinegun sounds like the aliens pulse rifle :D

  • @tunicaroja86 That's because they sampled the pulse rifle sound from the film and used it in the game. Nowadays that kind of thing is the stuff lawsuits are made from, but in the days where a successful game would shift 50,000 copies tops, it woudn't even have been on Fox's radar. :)

  • i just orgasmed. had forgot about this game.

  • The only game I've ever played where winning the game means giving the boss the worst stubbed toe in history.

  • One unit of energy right on the final boss, must of been sweating. I remember this game being really hard.

  • I would love to see the genesis longplay without cheats :)

  • I have mega drive version and i can't finished it without cheating. You are the gaming master.

  • @prulcan megadrive version is x times harder because it was a bad port, bad hit detection, unprecise movement etc... killed the game on genesis

  • Commodore...forever in my heart

  • 07:19 those look like owls. Aren't they supposed to be eyeballs?

  • @joaovictor1994 Those are the Psygnosis logo, they made the game.

  • @aokmaniac13 I just found out the Psygnosis are now Studio Liverpool. The guys that did Wipeout and Colony Wars...

  • Absolute toughest game I ever played for any system in my entire life PERIOD. Had a friend who could beat this game back in the day. Didn't believe him until I watched him do it. Unbelievable.

  • Deluxe paint kept me entertained for hours! Especially the animating! Wish you could get a version now that would utilise the power of my pc!!!!!!

  • im glad im not the only one who thought this game was hard lol, games were much harder back then

  • ha ha. I remember those eyeballs

  • But is this game possible.

It's very very hard some parts are unhumans

  • Ahh, I remember when this game was the shit! so ahead in terms of graphics

  • I was 13 and it took me a month to beatthis game. I replayed it recently on an amiga emulator and with a little practice I was just aboutas good as i was. This blew my mind the first time I saw it on display.

  • Haha the pulse rifle sxf

  • Man, the genesis port of this game is downright terrible though.

  • Hes punchin like Bud Spencer :)

  • I can't believe I completed this when I was a kid. That's some mad amount of patience which I don't have anymore :)

  • Ahahahahh, the last boss is ilarius, a dumb giant inable to beat a midget like us, lol!

  • Thanks for enabling me to relive childhood memories with these Amiga longplay vids!

  • What I dont like about people who make comments on amiga videos is that they always talk about the damn music. Music, Music and nothing but music. Music whores all of them. I remember the amiga for much more than just the music.

  • @Databamse But it was the music that set it apart from other systems. MD or SNES ports of Amiga games the first thing you noticed was how crap the music was :)

  • Its quite funny when he hits bugs, the sound is like jackie chan when he hits people in movies.

Btw, I owned an amiga and ive owned a commodore 64. I owned this game too, my nephew also owned this game, I have good memories from this game. The good old days.

  • This game defined my existence.

  • @EricTheAcktor I guess your life must be pretty damn shallow and mediocre then seeing as how Shadow of the Beast was nothing more than a below average side scroller with nothing more than fancy graphics and music. A sugar-coated turd is still a turd.

  • @animesucksandisgay Fail troll is fail.

  • Alright, let me clarify. I didn't pay $60 for WinUAE. I paid that much for Amiga Forever from Cloanto, which included 2 DVDs full of stuff like the history of Amiga, and a lot of home video-type stuff from the people that worked for Commodore in its final years. Also, it included WinUAE, another Amiga emulator, and tons of game .adf files. All in all, it was worth it, but the best version of WinUAE you can get is free.

  • Fav tunes at 11:05 14:47 19:55 22:58 Great background scenary throughout also.

  • Wow it's easy to forget how hard this game was..

  • This is the hardest game ever made.

    Well done!

  • Great music, but that punch sounds like someone closing a book loudly!

  • I remember this game being stupid hard. haha

  • 18:53 "Alright, so we just gave the player the gun. How about we give them a few moments of respite to bask in their new power?"

"Sure...followed by something completely fucking impossible to avoid."

  • I do not know why, But for me back then in the times of Amiga the music of the games were like so special atmosphere to me, It's like the best style of Music i ever heard till this day it's like very out of this world very nice thumbs up for the upload.

Btw i remember i could never get pass the first level on this game lol

  • Random how at like 13.00 or there abouts theres a blimp :| lol whata game though :) takes you back some eh guys :)

  • graphics 91%

    sound 99%

    gameplay 67%

    replay value 65%

    overall 98 %

  • i didnt have that forest intro screen on mine. i had the ea version i guess. awesome music in the tree i used to just chill and listen to it back in the day. i was even smokin weed in those days

  • can i get this for mac somehow?

  • @SgtMovieMaker

if there is an Amiga emulator for Mac, yes ;)

  • @SgtMovieMaker Can use e-uae on the Mac, from R. C. Drummond's website, and use it with Hi-Toro as the GUI from Pimley's website.

It works on Hi-Toro on E-UAE.

  • @SgtMovieMaker You must be kidding? Machintörsk would never let their user experince such w/o paying extensive , Mac/Apple lol

  • @SgtMovieMaker STFU!

  • I have just one question - Why do you have to go to the house? You won't have any items after you pass it... And you'll save time...

  • Great game, great music. Castle music is my favourite.

  • i must have had a bad crack years ago, since it took more than one punch to get rid of attackers

  • Beast!!!!!

  • I feel for this game the same as I feel for Agony, love the music and artwork, but the gameplay didn't live up to it. A lot of people seem to love it, so I guess it just wasn't a game for me.

  • Great skills cubex55.I got so frustrated with this game way back when.I admire you sticking with it.I thought it was impossible but you show it obviously isn`t.

  • Great game i finished 20 years ago , and without cheating.

    Awesome music !

  • The stuff coming at you was just so random, and what was with the blimp in the background!?

  • damn, i started to sweat at end :D

you have balls of steel, sir.

  • I was always amazed by the enemy diversity in this game. Most of the games this type have about 5 - 10 different enemies, but here we have each step something different. Anyway, the game is pretty hard, and i never made it to the end, so thanx 4 showing:)) Cheers.

  • 7:18-7:30: are those Psygnosis logos?

  • Punch those bats in the fucking face!

  • Oh boy! I love the music in Shadow of the Beast series. Whoever made it earns my respect. I have found music of Shadow of the Beast 2 & 3, but not 1, which make me sad.

  • Man it was so annoying that you couldn't punch whilst running. Great playthrough man, I never managed to complete this game on my 500.

  • Loved this game, solid though, could never get that far.

  • I never imagined that anyone could finish this game without cheating. Cybex you are the best player I have ever seen!In some games you are better than me!

  • It was played by HorsieNZ, as it says in the video info ;)

  • @MastroMissas agreed -- stills stands as the hardest game I've ever played :)

  • @MastroMissas Actually I´ve done it... TWICE... when my friends came by the same day I finnished it, I had to prove it. They got more and more silent the longer I came, when I finnished it they had their mouths open. I tried to act like it was a piece of cake but I was really sweaty. That was a great day! :)

  • the music was great , so much of the old games were great because of the music building th tension - this sounds like hubbards work

games still looks good too it holds up well

  • @kinkabala It was David Whittaker - another of the C64 veterans - who made the original Beast music. MOst interviews I've read still have him saying this was the high point of his game music career.

  • 23:11 i always stucked there. couldnt open the door and no chance of getting back the way you came. i was always frustrated when games had dead end and the only way to persue is to reset the game :(

  • The big toe is the Achilles heal for most giant demon rulers. Wow at that cybernetic shooter part, that was out of nowhere.

  • lol who in the hell is throwing all these barrels and axes me?!

  • Punch punch punch punch...5 stars

  • Unbelievable! Thumbs up! I was never able to finish the game without cheating. Evoking old good Amiga times.

  • This game's controls frustrated me, but the artwork and animations that went into it were totally awesome.:)

  • this game was released in the end of 1989 it was a very very modrn game when it was released !!!!

  • hi ! awesome longplay, could you do one of Dylan Dog :murders , the game freaked me out when i was younger and it was hard as hell ! :S

  • When I was a youngun I sent a letter to Psygnosis saying I was stuck on this game at the castle and they sent me a walkthrough for the whole thing :) I used it to complete the game once and then never managed it ever again despite loads of tries.

  • Tunes! Greatest original video game score of all time, even with the fog of nostalgia removed after watching this again.

Along with Mindscape and Delphi, psygnosis defined everything good about the Amiga (tack on whoever else you want to the end of that list).

  • In this game, punching solves all your problems.

  • Well done! The farthest I could get back in the day was about half-way through the castle.

  • Anyone, in your opinion, what creature in the game scared you the most?

  • I played this game when I was really young, like 8 or 9 , for some reason the sound of dying and then death scene after freaked me the hell out, especially after my brother pointed out some shadow of a figure in the back ground, sometimes i'd leave the room.

  • That's the best.

  • I scared the most the flying eye balls and the hand coming raising from the ground

  • Well, I bought the Premium Edition of WinUAE, so, you know... But it doesn't matter, I guess it was worth it. I got the Alien Breed ROMs and stuff like that now. :)

  • this game kickt ASSS it was yust awesome i remember i plaayed whole day ....bot the amiga its self kicks ass because of graphics and and ohh whatever this console was the best i wish i could have another one!!!!!

  • Seems like the kind of game that would be better to play at night with the lights off.

  • I paid like $60.00 for WinUAE, and this is pretty much the only game I play on the Amiga. Well, that and SotB II. This game is just amazing.

  • Why did you pay 60$? Its free!

  • @cubex55 Piracy is illegal dumbass.

  • @mrsmsrm

I have no clue what you are talking about, but WinUAE is free, it doesnt cost anything!

  • @oneminutekid someone saw you coming didn't they lol

  • Thez game i bought my Amiga for like ages ago... ^^

  • lol i forgot how short master system games were

  • kult game!!!

  • i cant express the memmories that i had for this game in words sad really sad the way games have gone id rather listen to this games ost than play about over 90% of games today they were so creative an imaginative i think if they had the tech back then they could blow ur mind with an atmosphere an depth that no 1s seen i think personally that people are smarter than me but i had somthing beatifull some1 i could take this music to the next lvl ive seen some try an miss

  • agreed, the music is just mindblowing for a platform game this age

  • WELL SPOKEN BRO!

  • Despite the fact that this was really more of a tech-demo than a game (in my opinion), this was a defining moment for the Amiga. The music is some of the best and most memorable on the system :)

  • I agree, the graphics and music was the point of this game, not the gameplay, which was WAY too hard, but fitting for a computer store testing

  • @kkbigal totally agree, beautiful as it is, gameplay wise it's nothing amazing. but yes the music is brilliant also.
