  • Hi LaVerne...I'm a receptionist at an OBGYN's office. I have been there for 2 yrs. B4 that I worked as a receptionist for 5 1/2 years for Family Practice..i love this video and everything you said is sooo true :) When patients complain about filling out paper work I tell them it is required by their ins. company to have updated info every year and if they don't want to fill it out they can feel free to pay for the visit instead of it going to their ins. that usually ends the arguement..LOL

  • I want to be an obgyn sooop bad but im only 11 so i hsve a LONG way to go!!

  • I want to become an OBGYN, but I don't know how to become one. I know your not an OBGYN, but if you have any info on how to be one or what they do that would be extremly helpful! Thanks! :)

  • @TheTopChelseaSupport First you have to get into college then on to medical school.

  • I work front desk at an OBGYN office and I love this video!!! It is so true, I had no idea it was the same everywhere!! Thanks for posting this video. :)

  • so i guess what im trying to ask is two things. First, would she be able to look for my name in the system and just like snoop at my medical records even if I dont go to the doctors. Second. If I did go and she saw me, would she be able to see my medical records. Third. if I did go. would she ever be in the exam room with the doctor. like can any medical person go looking for my records on some computor system. please answer me LaVerne thanks.

  • @philrich92 Well...First, if you don't go to the doctor you wouldn't have a medical record for anyone to snoop at. Second, clinical assistants have access to medical records because they are the ones who get you ready to see the doctor to let the doctor know why you're there. Third someone besides the doctor would be in the room with you if you are having a certain type of exam because the doctor has to have a chaperone who serves as a witness for both the patient and doctor.

  • @LaVerne1977 It looks like the first part of my message wasn't posted. I have been going to this doctor's office for some time so I will have (embarrassing) medical records there. However, since this girl I know started working there I have avoided going. She is a second year nursing student who works part time at the my doctors office. So I'm wondering what it is she actually does there and whether her position would allow her to look at my records even if I don't go there anymore? Thanks.

  • @philrich92 If you haven't been in she has no reason to be in your medical records.

  • that wasnt @ you laverne

  • @jadethorson okay....sorry for the misunderstanding:)

  • jjandkim - cma is wayy far from a ''full rn'' degree. what do you consider a partial rn?

  • @jadethorson This video is about 4 years old but I don't recall mentioning anything about a partial RN. I know the difference between a CMA and an RN. I also know what I do at my job everyday. So I will not even begin to debate with you. Thanks for watching and commenting though :)

  • I love you for sharing. I can feel your geniune concern.

  • samples? What kind of samples do you get at the obgyn?

  • @ATLalana87...birth control pills, hormone pills, creams for yeast infections, depression/anxiety meds, prenatal vitamins, etc.

  • Mommy, whats he doing? Looking at my pussy son Mommy, whats a pussy?LOL

  • thank yu that help i haven to get my first ob gyn apt, soon and im extremly nervous because im very overweight . how will that work for me if i go? like is there any personal thing s i should do or something?

  • @ambernicole111

Don't worry about being overweight honey. The doctor's are professionals....or at least they should be. If you have any really personal questions just sent me a private message and I will answer them for you.

  • @LaVerne1977 thank you.

  • @LaVerne1977 oh well i was going to message yu but i dont kno how. but i was wondering like how does an check up apt go? like when yu first get there what do they do.

  • I am a CMA as well and you dead ON. People treat us like we a) have power over ANYTHING the Dr decides to do for you. b) we are mindless idiots because we don't have a full RN degree. I always think to myself, "go ahead and treat me like shit, when you need something called in or a emergency appt you are going to be going through me to get it.

Thanks for the video though, it made me smile. :)

  • @jjandkim

You are welcome. Thanks for watching!

  • Heh. I'm an old LPN. I must say, you are dead-on. So much so, that some of it seemed like you were joking. But all of those comments are true and real and I only wish the people who need it heed your advice. If onlywe could handle the family members by leveling with them.

  • LOL, this is not the Matrix! Some people are just ghetto, bless you for your patience with them.

  • @LaVerne1977 I care! Fantastic video, great health teachings, albeit some painfully obvious one would think them redundant. You have the patience of a saint.

  • @LaVerne1977 I care! Fantastic video, great health teachings, albeit some painfully obvious one would think them redundant. You have the patience of a saint.

  • I'll be doing my internship for medical office management soon and when I get attitude I'll probably just laugh a little since I'll be thinking of this video. Hahaha. It was great.

  • @herutura....Good for you! I'm sure you will do well. Glad I could bring you some early insight on what happen....LOL! Thanks for watching and commenting. I would love to hear how you internship goes. Keep me posted.

  • Better yet, dont go to these female visits. Treat others with respect, this rule also applies to the doctors that coerce women into pelvic exams so they can get birth control. The doctors and staff want respect, I say that is fair. The patient should also be treated with respect.

  • Love that music... what is that tune that is playing?.. and also I have a question a personal one...maybe you can help me out also.

  • @ViewerLauren

Send me a private message. I'll help you if I can. I don't remember where the song came from, my husband put the music on for me.

  • It's weird, of all of the doctors I see, the people at my Ob/Gyn are always awesome. I want you in my pain doc's office, except I'm glad you're doing what you're doing. I used to bring the girls from the group home to their appointments - you would have put them at ease. They weren't too happy about having anyone messing around down there (for good reasons, unfortunately). I'm glad I found this video, it makes me happy to know that the women in your area are in good hands.

  • @durtygrrrl If someone is "not too happy having anyone messing around down there", no-one SHOULD be messing with them down there. I hope none of those girls were ever forced or bullied into having exams. Don't know why I'm doing this: Laverne will probably never approve it LOL

  • I also have a question, do you know much about the menstrual cycle or do you just help if a doctor says he/she needs something? Because I have a personal question if you think you might be able to help.

  • @cholochica

send me a private message....I maybe able to help you.

  • Funny, luv that you took the time to make this video, and isn't sad that you had to do it! Thanks for the work you do in your profession.

  • lmaooo this is not the matrix.

  • I have a question. Do you normally have boyfriends/husbands come in with their significant others?

And does that piss you guys off? lol

  • Yes they come in. It's not problem especially when the patients are pregnant. The only time it pisses me off is when the boyfriend/husband as a nasty damn attitude for no good reason. What they fail to realize is...they're not the patient, so we don't have to be polite to them...LOL! Only the patient matters. I've had to put a couple of boyfriends/husbands in check more than once!

  • oh okay good.

Because.\, my girlfriend wanted me to come and hold her hand. But I didn't want to get in anyone's way.

I'll make sure not to make anyone mad :-]

  • how much does an ob /gyn assistant make. Is it worth it?

  • Thanks for sharing. I like your style and advice. I just wish that the people who need to hear this the most come across this!

  • Is it a big deal if a patient goes in for an OB/GYN visit without grooming down there?

  • Depends on what you mean by "grooming". If you mean shaving...then no it's not a big deal, but if you mean washing up down there, then yes that's a big deal...LOL!

  • LOL. Sorry, I should have specified. I did mean in the shaving/waxing sense. :) Thanks for the heads up and have a great Thanksgiving!

  • I was just offer a job in the ob/gyn office and I was wondering was it a stressful job and what all do you do?

  • Depends on the atmosphere you're in. If you're working with other's that want to work as a team, it shouldn't be stressful.

  • This is great! I love your irreverent tone and presentation. Wish you worked at my clinic.

  • lol this is halariuusss..n helpfull uh huh..yup thnx!!!

  • lol "this is not the matrix"

  • hahaha! gr8 advice! thank you!

  • Good video. Next time don't keep clicking the pen. That drove ma crazy. Step away from the pen. LOL!

  • LOL...thanks...I'll remember that.

  • this is hilarious!

i'd love to work at a

    ob/gyn.

  • I LOVE IT GIRL!

  • I also work for an obgyn, I agree this is too funny

  • LOL, love it!!! now can you do one for Nursing Home Admissions?? LOL

  • LOL...thanks for watching. I don't know much about Nursing Home Admissions. I've never worked in one.

  • This video is so great! It's all so true, yet funny! My #1 advice is SHOWER BEFORE YOUR PAP!! It should be a no brainer, but some women... Thanks for the video!!

  • I'm going to school to be a CMA. Is it worth it?

I wanted to do nursing, but it's pretty much impossible to get into a program where I'm from cuz it's too popular right now.

  • I really like what I do. I just recently switched from OB/GYN to General Surgery and ENT. I like working in the physician's office setting. If you like being in the hospital you might want to think about getting into the nursing program after you finish the CMA program. I'm actually planning to go into Clinical Laboratory Science. That way if I decide to work in the hospital it will be in the lab only. I'm not really a fan of working on the floor in a hospital.

  • I would love to work at a md's office. I hate the long hours and holiday schedules that hospital work comes with.

    Thanks for the advice!

    Take care, and good luck!!

  • LMAO!!!

I work at a hospital now, and I used to work at a doctor's office, and girl I know how it is. People are just doing there job.

Sometimes I just want to tell people to go home if they know all the answers and can do things themselves.

  • lol... sOme ppl jus dnt think... this is nOt the matrix lol and sOmetimes ppl have to wOrk in those types of jobs to know how to handle the situation!!! im a receptionist and sista i hate when ppl chew me out for doin my jOb... so thanks for that little shout out at 2:44... and the part about the fast girls lmfaO!!! and girl you be the best certified medical assistant that you can be... cuz you kno your sh*t!!! lOve your vids

  • I can't believe people think they can call in narcotic prescriptions pretending to be an OB/GYN's office... Well, I guess anything is possible.

  • LOL that's the mind set of a drug seeker.

  • ...I'll just say it for you. CRACK HEADS call pharmacies pretending to be personnel at doctor's offices.

    CRACK. HEADS.

    Love,

    Husband

  • at what age would you say a mother should bring her daughter on for her first gyn exam/ appointment

  • Normally a young woman doesn't need to start seeing a GYN doc until age 18 for yearly pap smears or even age 21 if she is not sexually active. Any female who is sexually active should see a GYN yearly.

  • @LaVerne1977 Normally, young women, or women of any age, who are completely healthy do not need to see gyns at all. Being a woman is not a disease!

  • @Jojoseahorse

No they don't have to see GYN's, they can see a regular family practitioner as long as they get a yearly GYN exam. That can certainly be done by a regular family doctor. Some internists and family practioners don't do PAP smears!

  • @LaVerne1977 With all due respect, is it 100% certain they'll die if they don't get a yearly gyn exam? That's how you make it sound! Pap smears have a high rate of false positives and can lead to overtreatment and unnecessary anxiety. And not all women are comfortable with these invasive exams; a family doctor poking up your private parts feels every bit as much of a rape as a gyn. I don't tell women NOT to get them, but they are not for all of us, and we still stay healthy :)

  • @LaVerne1977 Ran out of space there; check out our Yahoo group, Women Against Stirrups. Sometimes women are scared into doing things they don't want, and the horrific emotional consequences are not worth the very small risk that they will die from some undetected disease.

  • @Jojoseahorse

I have seen way too many women come in who thought they were perfectly healthy so they decided not get regular checkups. When they finally come in they have uterine/cervical cancer, ovarian cancer, or breast cancer....and they die because it wasn't detected early enough. My mother is one of those people. I am an advocate of women's health. Thanks for the invite but I will not be joining your group.

  • @LaVerne1977 Each to their own. For some of us, it is not in our best interest. I'm sorry about your mother, but there are also a lot of us who would not choose treatment either, so the tests aren't worth it.

  • @LaVerne1977 There is no reason for a pap if a CSA is normal. Paps are invasive and unnecessary, along with being degrading and humiliating. There are too many false positives and unnecessary biopsies/hysterectomies because of a horrendously inaccurate and outdated test. Ask for the CSA blood test. It can tell you alot more than the pap ever could.

  • ur awsome

  • I've been told that some GYN's do not want their patients to bathe, shower, or use soap the same day as their appointment because it will throw off pap-smear results... Have you heard of that one before or is that true?

  • Bathing doesn't interfere with an examine or a pap. Sometimes if you come in just before you cycle or right after that can throw the results off.

  • Thanks good to know :) ...

I learned something today regarding the cycle info...

    Thanks :)

  • What is the name of that tune or song in your vid...

  • Ronny Jordan "After Hours"

  • Cool! I've been looking for that song for years...

  • People call us nurses where I work at. And every one of us there is an MA.

  • "Nurse" title of not, you're on the front line there. And thats usually for folks that does most of the work & knows whats going on.

  • Thanks...I'm glad someone understands that...LOL!

  • Thank You!!!! LOL! I can not believe a mother would bring their son into the GYN check-up with them. Some folks got NO boundaries! No sense of what is appropriate. That lil boy would have had me on the floor howling.

    Great vis!

  • I was waiting for you to mention those who don't think it is necessary to bathe before comming in for an obgyn visit. I remember when I was pregnant with my 4th baby I had preterm labor with him and was dilated 2cm since 26 weeks my doc allowed me to do my bedrest at home since I had the other 3 kids but my hubby always knew when I was having too many contractions because I would be bathing like every two hours till I figured out if I was gonna have to go to the doc I wanted to be fresh lol

  • Didn't go into that but you know it happens. Ladies will come to the doctor, directly from their jobs after working a 12 hour shift..........Really not good! If you're in a hurry, baby wipes work miracles sometimes....LOL!

  • this was very informational& funny in some ways b/c I've seen that b4 in the dr ov...okay so here's my question: I have a this fear of germs and std's and anything else u can get from others and I would like to know, if someone has herpes type 2 but in there mouth is there always a flare up or is it like non flare up days like the vagina?I know that herpes type 1 is said 2 only b cold sores is that true? I need 2 know b/c that will prevent me from hitting people when they accidently spit on me.

  • I love your videos!

And its so true about patients! They can be so outrageous sometimes..lol

  • Thanks for watching!

  • Hahaha! That really happens!? That is weird! Ugh! I just cant believe that! lol!

  • It happens.........believe it!
