I disagree with his last comment. The bible does indeed suggest that those who have gone before us in the faith are looking down upon us. Hebrews 12:1 describes this, "Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us." Those in Heaven are not dead but live with Christ, and they pray for us who are still running the race as St. Paul says.
