Brilliant. It is very important I think for this guys playing to be recorded and enjoyed. His kind dont come around very often, and we are in a fortunate position to record his work and share it. Love to Derek!!!
I was watching this video and I was on the edge of my seat, wondering if he'd do the Jelly Roll version or Art Tatum version. I listened and listened, and when he played the first few chords my jaw dropped. Not only did he play, he PLAYED!
@josiah566 yeah he really loves this too. in the last concert i attended which was more formal. the conductor pulled him away. then he didn't want to leave and return to the stage. played a song. then adam (the white hair man in the video, his mentor) pulled him away next. he still wanted to play. so after that adam whisper to him this is the last one. and he played the bumblebee. he said "this is the last one, i am going to play the bumblebee. really fast" and really fast he did!
for these kind of people we have the word genius ... not to understand how fast he gets the soul of every piece of music he hears ! .. at least good to have this teacher besides him, who guides him on his way. I wish everybody around him, also his parents to find a good way to help this genius to survive in this money dominated world and gives Derek the necessary support.
hes just completely in it....just dont cares about other people....completely doing what hes enjoying´....look at his face, how much he likes it.awesome

Not much different from Art Tatum's version except for the speed and the ginormous hands. Good man!
