  • These 'back projection' films are fascinating. Made by film companies to be visible out the rear window of vehicle interiors mocked-up in a studio.

  • A wonderful bit of film. But no wonder there were so many more fatalities on the roads in those days!

  • Fascinating to see the south side of the bridge. How the whole area has completely changed. I never realised it was one continuous street. The redevelopment of this area in the 60's was a complete shambles.

  • Oh, Lordy!! Lucky that fella made it through the first block. Lol They obviously didn't have "lanes" of traffic. Amazing film. Thank you for sharing it with us. It's lovely to look back.

  • the albion sugar co wagon/drag lorry would have had a drivers mate to pull up the brakes m on the lorrys;trailer "quite a task in london traffic "even more so fully freighted given the braking standards of the day. "still i think they were more skilled drivers. " today it seems we,ve got better vehicles and more and more unskilled wheel attendent's ...."still lovely old film.

  • excellent footage .this is the next best thing to actually being there I think.

  • I can remember when it was like this.......Terry b1932.

  • That was great. Thanks so much for posting it.

  • What was the music called? It was kind of discordant but haunting at the same time.

  • @BobSometimes

    Thanks for the comment.

I composed the music and did the arrangement.

The title I gave it was, 'Walk to the Bench'.

  • Wooble73 not wobble :)

  • Wobble73 - many thanks for the comment.

The main look of the road is still the same.

The railway bridge is still there.

  • So interesting footage! I walk along the same street everyday to work! So much has changed!

  • why did they have to knock down the beautifull building on the right hand side in the 90s- where the ugly try hard port cullis house now stands?did anybody protest to try and keep it at the time?

  • They knocked it down because it became bit of an eyesore and very run down. The need for new office space also became a priority so they bulit the new one.

  • Great stuff! Most enjoyable, thanks.

  • Fantastic stuff. Can't believe that feller on the bike managed to get across the tramline without getting the wheel stuck though!

    Excellent vid.

  • it was quite busy already by the time.

    cool upload.

    thanx!

  • Excellent footage of a part of history in Britain, now long gone, I was also impressed with the quality of the footage, very clear.

  • yeah that was one of the best!! thanks.

  • great film, I watch it often. So evocative.

    Thanks.

  • Thanks for the comment. I composed the music. I use a software called Logic 8.

Music is a hobby for me and a way of creating music for my films.

  • I love this video! What piece of music is this?, It seems to be based loosely on the westminster chimes.

    Its great!

  • Absolutely brilliant, I have watched it 4 times! more like this would be great , if possible.

    Thank you
