not only do your students execute the exercises beautifully but they look like they are having fun! you must be a wonderful teacher. i enjoy all of your videos.
@CrazyAboutBallet First, you need to practice not turning, but just going from 4th position or what ever position that you are turning and then balance, without turning. For a boy, it is much easier to help with pirouettes since boys can cheat on positions, such as turning in second position, which is never practiced or having a very open or closed 4th position. Girls need to be more precise with their positions, so i will not address the positions, but the arms. There is a correct arm position
@CrazyAboutBallet What I am about to say with the arms is probably frowned upon by many teachers, but professionals do not always turn with proper shoulder and arm positions. It is the arms and shoulders that often get dancers off balance when turning. If anyone is only interested in doing good turns with no concern about the correctness of their arms and shoulders, then listen to what I say. Most teachers will tell dancers to never wind up.Sometimes that wind up motion gets dancers in balance
@CrazyAboutBallet Only when thinking about executing turns, regardless of correctness of arms and shoulders, sometimes a dancer will turn better with a closed type of position, which would be comparable to a windup. Other dancers will do best with an open type of arm and shoulder position, which is almost the exact opposite of a wind up. An example of this open position is that a dancer may have the front arm to the side that they will be turning, instead of the arm directly in front of them
@CrazyAboutBallet The actual start of the turn greatly dancers balance during the turn. Soem dancers stay in balance better when teh front arm leads the turn. In thsi case, the front arm will move first and eventually the back arm will catch up. Other times, the backa rm wil do the whole movement and catch up with the front arm immediately. There are proper ways of doing pirouettes, but everyone is different and the same method will not work for everyone.
@CrazyAboutBallet As an example of a method that does not work for everyone is consecutive pirouettes from 5th. Ideally, every landing must end in 5th and stay in 5th until the turn is made. Watch all the Russian dancers performing and they wil never(maybe some exceptions, but I think no exceptions) stay in 5th the entire time when both feet are on the ground. Some might even have closed 5th, but most will be slightly open, such as a 3rd postion or even more open.
@CrazyAboutBallet I will end by saying that teachers want everything done correctly, but not everyone can execute turns done the correct way. Cheating with the arms, shoulder and particularly for boys, the feet position, are almost always needed to turn at your best possible way. Go look at videos of Baryshnikov turning and you will never see a perfect position immediately prior to him turning
omg ur students get better and better!!! ur teaching is just amazing! you're spectacular... keep putting your all into these students and they will be almost magical.
