  • You need to upgrade your Motherboard to a PCI Ex16!

  • @Apple2134Gamer or just get a cheap I5 2500, 8 gb of ram and a 6950 and make a decent pc instead :D (if i had a cheap dual core i could run skyrim at 60 fps at high detail dude, its a CPU limit not GPU)

  • May I make a request? I've been trying to get Skyrim to run on at least an average of 30 frames, but have had no luck. My setup is just about the same as yours except I have a NVIDIA GeForce 9500GT instead. Could you perhaps upload your skyrim.ini and skyrimprefs.ini to a place I could download? I think that would be the easiest way to get my settings as close to yours as possible. I really want to enjoy this great game but have been getting an average of like 10 fps. 15 at most. :(

  • @Wing2137 Also, could you list any and all performance mods you're using if you're using any at all? Thanks in advance. I really want to enjoy this great game. :)

  • Northwood is the early version of the pentium 4. mine is the prescott one, with Hyperthreading (aka 2 virtual cores). That's your problem dude. Save some money and buy a new pc, upgrading there is pretty much useless

  • @01EmptyBox I'm curious as to what drivers and motherboard you use. I have tried several different drivers but no game will play for more than a few seconds before the computer hangs. Watching HD movies it performs fine but for games, nothing. Thanks in advance

    My computer specs:

P4 3.0 GHz Northwood, Asus P4c800e deluxe, 4 GB Gskill ddr 400, HIS 4670 AGP

  • Yay I have pentilum 4 and 2 GB, Just wondering what Graphics setting are you running skyrim on?

  • What setting? I have a 3.8 P4 also with 2 gb of ram and am thinking of getting a GTX260 off ebay for $60 to see if I can run it with that set up. Did you have to do any mods?

  • did this game need multicore cpu ?

  • @maskmanyeah This game can only utilize two cpu cores. It's based of an older engine that uses two. so a single or dual core cpu will be fine. I would lean towards the quad or a six core If I was you :D

  • What settings?

  • What resolution?

  • awesome

  • Run in:

    Pentium IV 2.80 Ghz

    ATI RADEON HD 4650

    1.5 GB RAM

  • 1:58... TBAG xD

  • My computer has a 3.2ghz intel pentium 4 with HT, 2gb ram and an Nvidia 8400GS 512mb turbochached. Will I be able to play it with around 20+FPS at all times?

  • Can I run it with a pentium 4 3.4 ghz with HT, 1GB RAM ddr2 and Nvidia 9500gt?

  • @douglas94jardim yes, but overclocking to 3.6 will help you with the fps!

  • @01EmptyBox And with the reduced texture pack will help a lot isn´t it?

  • @douglas94jardim The reduced texture pack helps a little, for me I only gained about 3-8 frames more, but it did help.

  • @FeudalMoon The texture pack helpe me a lot =]

  • @01EmptyBox ive been trying to find a tool to overclock my pentium 4 650 3.4 for a while help with that please?

  • @caleb2012isfly seriously, dont try to overclock if you dont know what are you doing, you risk to fry your cpu...

Please, if you want to do it, follow a guide on the web, clean your pc from all the dirt and get some good cpu coolers, then you can try overclocking. You overclock from the motherboard's bios, not from windows. Beware that some motherboards doesn't not support overclock very well and if the temperatures goes to high the pc doesn't shutdown and you fry your cpu. Be carefull!

  • @01EmptyBox i know all about overclocking its not an available option in the bios for me i'm guessing for you it was which was rare for the p4s back in their day. I was just wondering if there was any software based overclocking tool i could use, i cant seem to find any.

  • @01EmptyBox resultion is it on 800x600?

  • @01EmptyBox awesome vid man. Hey,can you help me with something?I have a P4 3.0 ghz CPU, nvidia 6200 gt agp 512mb gddr and 1.5 GB of DDR1 ram 400mhz. So i was thinking to buy an AGP graphics card with more power. I heard about the HD4650 1gb ddr2 . People could run many games with them . I went to a PC store and they can only order a 512 mb version of this card, and it will cost me about 50 euros(65$).So whats the difference between the 512 and 1gb version, and could my i run good games with it?

  • @BitesHisTail the 4650 is a cheap but great videocard to upgrade old pentium 4 PCs. 512 is the VRAM, just like the normal ram, its a fast memory that keep in all the textures, models etc. Basically, if you use the 512 mb version you cant use very high textures in most of games, but you can always try. For 50 euro its a pretty cheap upgrade and will help enjoing some new games without problem (Skyrim included :D).

Remember to use gamebooster and if you know overclock to boost performance a bit.

  • @01EmptyBox Thanks ! :) I just might consider buying it. I have enough money though, so i will decide about it until the new year... BTW, there is one thing bothering me, will my 1.5 GB of DDR1 ram with 400mhz have an effect on performance? I mean will my games lag? And, i just want to play games on atleast 1024x768 rez, cause i am still using an old box monitor :D.

  • @BitesHisTail if you use Windows XP you wont have any issue at all. Anyway, don't buy skyrim right now, first download it and try how well it works, performace may vary and you could get an unplayable game!

  • @01EmptyBox i did download it, and it was very laggy. Even the main menu was laggy. And i couldn't start it, my PC would just like die, and i would need to restart to get it to work. Also, the whole menu was pink, the moving textures, like fog and those things in the menu were completely pink and lagged out. So i think its a problem for my graphics card which is really old. I went on Canyourunit(dot)com, and i didn't pass minimum requirements cause of my old Graphics card :(. Thanks so much :D

  • I have almost the exact same specs as you exept my p4 is only 3.0 ghz and I have aa HD 4650 but I still lag like crazy even on medium settings, how did you get it not to lag?

  • @dethmetal1396 you need to check if your P4 is Hyperthreading, with 2 virtual cores. It HELPS a lot, also thanks to the 600 extra mhz i gain a more stable performace. Anyway you can try playing around with the view distances, it may help but not too much! Also try using gamebooster, it improves the performace a bit!

  • how is the performance when you fight dragons and generally when you come to bigger areals like mountains ? it is nice to see that skyrim runs on your system because i have nearly the same specs and it would be nice to play this game :)

  • @Bigcrass its very playable in every situation, just remember that you will need a P4 with HT for gain that performace!

  • i have almost the same set up as you, thanks for this vid

  • I got a Pentium 4 @ 3,4 ghz with also 2gb ram and a radeon 4600 with 1gb.

I thought it would only run on dual-core-systems.

So sad for me that there is no demo version to test the performance with my system.

Do you think I might be able to play it with low settings?

  • @tobb2006 if you use Tiny xp or xp in general you should play it fine. The engine is very well optimized, you can tweak it very well, and if you use a free program called gamebooster you gain even more performance. see my next post to see my settings.

  • settings?

  • @ezio8644 I can play with textures on high, shadows and radial blur on medium, AA x2 AF x8 Resolution 1280x800 resolution. The best tweak need to be done in the view distance of the various elements, keep them on almost the minimum and you will gain an uber performance boost.
