This woman was clearly a threat to herself and other innocent citizens who may have been nearby. She clearly needed to be neutralized. Thank God this brave and valiant law officer was able to subdue her and prevent a catastrophe. This man should be awarded a medal.

Would you like for someone you're arresting to pull away when you're trying to cuff them and tell you they're getting back in their vehicle? He seemed cooler than the average person by far, and was probably going by the book when he tased her. @nycresistance What does "elderly" have to do with it? She presumably knows how to drive and watch for speed limit signs. She knew that not signing would get her arrested. She knew he didn't want to be crowded up against the road. She knew she was under arrest, why he was trying to put cuffs on her, and had been warned repeatedly on the taser.
A better description for her includes: law-breaking, resisting arrest, aware of the law and the situation and chose to do everything wrong.

if you read the procedure book, cops CAN taser a person who "resists arrest" but come on, how much resisting can a 72 year old person do? Procedure here in Harris Co. is to call the medics after using a taser, so not only would the officer abuse his privilege of using a taser but he'd be tying up already heavily used county resources. Cursing someone is actually a misdemeanor assault charge if you really want to press charges. Slapping an officer is a physical attack, just as it is if she slapped you... another criminal charge. Disrespecting a uniformed officer, in most states, is also a misdemeanor. Listen... YES, she was a feisty old lady. Yes, she may have pushed the cops buttons. What people are OVER LOOKING is that this WHOLE fiasco could have been avoided if the cop wanted to. He could have just wrote "refused to sign" on the ticket and sent the obvious distraught grandma on her way and they would have had their day in court end of story. That pushed caused her to fly back a foot or can't you see that in the video?? There was nothing light about the 1st or second time he shoved her which wasn't called for. That cop was very aggressive and could have allowed the elderly lady to sign the ticket without tasering her. Well, the officer was in the complete right to taser her. She was clearly uncooperative and resisting arrest. Every time I watch this I side more and more with the cop.
"I'm not signing, just arrest me".
Refusal to back up (safety concern), and is still confrontational after being pushed (can't submit a bit to the situation, even for safety).
"Go ahead and tase me" (when not following further instructions.
"I'm getting back in my car".
She knew exactly what was going on, that she was in the wrong right from the start, and thought she could use ageism and sexism to her advantage.

@redbmusic Would you like to be crowded up against oncoming traffic after you've told the person several times to stop? Would you like for someone you're arresting to pull away when you're trying to cuff them and tell you they're getting back in their vehicle? He seemed cooler than the average person by far, and was probably going by the book when he tased her. She knew she would be under arrest, she knew she would be tased, and she brought it on herself in both cases.

@nycresistance What does "elderly" have to do with it? She presumably knows how to drive and watch for speed limit signs. She knew that not signing would get her arrested. She knew he didn't want to be crowded up against the road. She knew she was under arrest, why he was trying to put cuffs on her, and had been warned repeatedly on the taser.
A better description for her includes: law-breaking, resisting arrest, aware of the law and the situation and chose to do everything wrong.

The old lady was speeding, all she had to do was sign the ticket she deserved. What gives her the right to endanger the construction workers? She thinks she's special because she's 72? Big deal.
She was argumentative and combative, she was standing right next to him and swearing at him. He was standing close to traffic and could have been hit by a car.

She stopped giving interviews after she got a lawyer and he told her to stop. Common practice with defense attorneys.
The video proves everything she claimed in the interview. That is why Travis County settled with her.

It is not a traffic citation. It is a summons to appear in court for suspicion of speeding, which was dropped by Travis County. Not Guilty.
Travis County dropped all charges against her in this incident.

if you read the procedure book, cops CAN taser a person who "resists arrest" but come on, how much resisting can a 72 year old person do? Procedure here in Harris Co. is to call the medics after using a taser, so not only would the officer abuse his privilege of using a taser but he'd be tying up already heavily used county resources. And of course the cop tasering her was totally uncalled for, but there was also no reason for her to act like she did. If anyone should know better it's a 72 year old. Just sign the damn thing. Cursing someone is actually a misdemeanor assault charge if you really want to press charges. Slapping an officer is a physical attack, just as it is if she slapped you... another criminal charge. Disrespecting a uniformed officer, in most states, is also a misdemeanor. And, in addition, if an attorney were creative enough, one could argue she slandered the officer when she lied and told the reporter that she did NOTHING wrong.

Listen... YES, she was a feisty old lady. Yes, she may have pushed the cops buttons. What people are OVER LOOKING is that this WHOLE fiasco could have been avoided if the cop wanted to. He could have just wrote "refused to sign" on the ticket and sent the obvious distraught grandma on her way and they would have had their day in court end of story. Instead the cop chose to strong arm her which was completely unnecessary.

That pushed caused her to fly back a foot or can't you see that in the video?? There was nothing light about the 1st or second time he shoved her which wasn't called for. That cop was very aggressive and could have allowed the elderly lady to sign the ticket without tasering her. I am sure if she would have died this video would have never made it to the news, they would have said she tripped and died from her injuries combined with underlined health issues like swine flue and old age.

What wicked people to back a cop that tasered an elderly woman. If they have laws that permit the tasering of the elder those laws need to be abolished along with the devils that wrote them. The elderly are the one group in America that are not afraid to stand up to power like they did when they were young. This generation is full of cowards that will do whatever they are told if it means they can watch TV at the end of the day. I wonder what corrupt police are leaving these wicked comments.

Police are busy trying to treat traffic stops like drug busts, and are not opposed to using violence on the drop of the hat. Even on "dangerous" petite 72 year old elderly women. The sick fucks who design and teach police procedures should be tarred and feathered in the grand old American tradition. Becuase their idea of american traditions is a police state.

"don't argue with the police, just don't". fuck that, when the police were first becoming a full time organized and armed force in america there were a lot of cases that judges excused people for killing cops in self defense, saying that people had a right to protect themselves and that cops were nothing more than other people.

Well, the officer was in the complete right to taser her. She was clearly uncooperative and resisting arrest. Her lying to the media and then the releasing of the video, shows a lot of bad on her end..... I've seen quite a few of police brutality, but this clearly isn't one of them, although it did seem a little rough.

Age is an excuse for disorderly conduct you mindless order following drone, this cop towered over this old lady and shoved her back like a rag doll. If he wanted to arrested her he could have grabbed rist and handcuffed her but no...He was consumed by the power that was given to him and decided to be all powerful instead of a good hearted human being. Reading these comments has shown that a great deal of people are brained washed to obey power regardless of what is the morally right thing to do.
