Interesting to see Catch Wrestling moves in MMA. Great book to look at Rough and Tumble. These moves are nothing new. Guys like Mr. Billy Robinson and wrestlers way before his time were using these moves. I'm glad to see that Catch didn't completely die out. I wonder what the Pioneers would say if they were around. Great video along with the old school pictures of Catch.
The last submission by the Korean Zombie, we know it as the "twister" in the 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu system. I don't know why you called it guillotine, since it's actually a spinal lock (Yeah you can really F*&^ somebody up with that one) not to mention that the lock down on the leg puts immense amounts of pressure on your opponents knee!!! Also fair to say that the Twister is banned from competition, you even try that submission and you get disqualified right away
@mvaguero Eddie Bravo took it from wrestling and called it a twister, cause there was already a move in jiu jitsu called the guillotine. Google wrestling guillotine.
@sirmartin41687 Ok I knew Eddie took the move from Wrestling, I just didn't know it was called Guillotine... I learned something knew today! Great video BTW I really liked the old B&W pictures showing some of the moves!
@mvaguero why is the guillotine illegal in competition? I sat in a one for 1:10 my senior year of high school. didn't want to get pinned so I sucked it up and waited it out. Is it so much harder for submission guys to take it?
@gcsy926 OK I'm no expert and I'm also talking about BJJ; but what I've been told is that any submission that messes with your spine is not allowed in competition, simply cause any injure (even a very minor one) on your spine could be very, very serious.
@mvaguero I am an expert on spinal injuries (I'm a DC). I doubt one could do much damage to the spine with a wrestling guillotine. I think the problem is this is new territory for the BJJ competitor just as leg locks were in the late 90's. BJJ is still apprehensive when it comes to leg locks and spinal locks scare them to death.
@mvaguero It depends on the tournament you go to. Some allow the twister and other spine locks and some don't. I heard Eddie Bravo say that Heel Hooks are more dangerous than the twister.
Uploader sure knows his catch wrestling subs! Great video, thanks.
Would have been perfect video if it also had list of the fights or fighters featured. Like who was the Pancrase guy who did the head scissor at 8:53, the neck cranker at 9:30 and the Guillotine girl at 11:00 , please? :)
@utubesqueeze Minoru Suzuki vs Vernon White. Suzuki's matches are great, pure catch from that guy . Kuniyoshi Hironaka does that double underhook neck crank and the girl is Shayna "The queen of spades" Baszler

That scissor takedown into a heel hook clip, that was Anderson Silva's last loss I believe. Hasn't lost since.

@mvaguero It was actually Jean Jacques Machado who gave it the name twister.
