  • As an aspiring apprentice; this is awesome. Your work is beautiful. I have a question; I've seen how the old mortar is cut out, what keeps the bricks from just simply falling out?

  • gotta say i normally look at bwk related vids and think..."oh dear!"and when i saw the gear coming straight out of a glove i thought "hear we go"...WRONG! very clever,as with the bent up hawk for the beds...good and quick, impressed for a change!and jealous i never thought of it ha ha!good stuff!

  • @bigdannyg23 Thanks for that Big Danny and if it's any consolation my bwk's non too quick having had a life time of doing this.

  • PPS, how did you come about pointing the head joints with mortar in hand and not on the hawk. And what made you bend the plasterers hawk. I've been a tuckpointer for twenty five years and must say that your work looks better than I've ever seen.

  • @az13klf "Necessity is the mother of invention" the handle fell of my "perp hawk" many years ago so out of necessity I just picked up some mortar with my hand and found it easier and quicker although it may look a little unprofessional.

I generally mix my own mortars but I have tried 'Blue Circle Mortar Mix' on a small job which I was quite pleased with.

First pointed 48yrs. ago at the age of 16 but have specialized soley in repointing since 1986, up for retirement soon.

  • How many years have you been a tuckpointer. And what is your opinion on premixed mortars. I can't stand them, there to hard and go bad quickly IMHO.

  • I enjoyed watching this dude. It was great!! Thanks for posting.

  • @MegaMusical10 Thank's for that, much better than the Pollyfiller video what.

Sobering evening after watching The Ten Brothers.

  • Can you show how you do it slower? I can't get how you did it.... Thanks....

  • @MrLizbudu It's not speeded up Mr Lizbudu, try pausing it?

  • @RudePoint Thanks.... can you give me the name of the device that you use to do this job?

  • @MrLizbudu Best see my reply to 'Viewer number 99' guess it's simply a repointing hawk.

  • Comment removed

  • Why not just use a grout bag? I could have done that in half the time with a grout bag, just as clean...

  • @manitobamarijuana You couldn't get mortar of that quality trough a grout bag.

  • Great Technique. Could you explain how you modified your Hawk into something that looks like a Hod ?

  • @ViewerNumber99 This ancient hawk was made simply by folding a piece of sheet metal and fixing a wooden handle by a screw, I pop reveted a length of carpet edging on after it became distorted, these days I just fold up a plastering hawk.

  • what kind of mix is that my friend

  • @feetman133 1:1:6 Hydrated Lime, Cement, Sharp Sand. (washed plastering grade, no grit).

  • Great stuff,I do lots of odd jobs round the house nice to see how it should be done , many thanks !

  • Its a kinda mastic lol.

  • @RudePoint with the standard of work your showing there mate you dont ever need to worry about not bringing home the bacon.Thats some fucking awesome pointing you got going on there. If your ever up north(Leeds)you can come and work for me anyday of the week pal.

  • @thanxx not Cuba then!

  • @Membersonlyableto Leeds is kinda like Cuba. You never heard of chapeltown?? lol.

  • How did you prepare the mortar mix ? What was the ratio of cement, sand and lime that you used ?

  • @Dicofole 1:1:6 clean washed sand -- electric stirrer.

  • @Dicofole I used a bag of Blue Circle Ready Mixed Mortar on a small job recently 1:1:6 dry packed, just add water, nice consistency, mixed fairly stiff, turned out well.

  • Great job, I like how you've modified your hawk.

  • Firstly the job you did looked good, however i'd like to see you point old brickwork with randomly thick and thin joints (to see the difference in technique) i use a diamond pointing trowel. Also when you do the perps your going to get motrar stains were your finger trowel made contact with the bottom of the bricks. But the job does look nice. By the way ever done any 'strap pointing'? Just wanted to know how you found it.

  • @ijl66 On old uneven brickwork I'd point it London Weather-struck as in my other clip.

  • Poetry in motion to watch, thanks for making it look easy, can you do mine for me please???

  • @hardhatpicasso Cheers mate, nothing quite like a bit of trade recognition.

  • grout bag .its 3 times as quick and does the same job

  • @lilceazy87 Like to see you get a finish as in the other vid. with a grout bag.

  • very well done that was quick compair to how i do mine any tips for me im currently doing level 1 brick laying and couldyou tell me what the metal thing you used last was called , my lecturer tellme its called a gager but cant find 1 at my local BnQ

  • @TheShottaboy1 That would be the 'brick jointer' you can get em anywhere but I like the Marshalltown the best but you can bend a bit of copper tube up if you're stuck.

  • @RudePoint thankz for the advice much appreciated

  • @goldenballs2278 Cheers mate.
