@Kamasutra6901 1,000 feet per second is actually decently fast. Most bullets travel quite a bit faster then that now a days. If a pellet traveled 1,000 feet per second it would be going nearly 700 miles per hour and that is nearly the speed of sound. Getting hit by a pellet gun at that speed would likely kill you if it hit an vital organs.

Which means LEGALLY they were where they were SUPPOSED to be. They can (of course) be sued, but they took the proper precautions, and an accident occurred. The "myth" they were "testing" (re: fucking around with) was totally redundant anyways.

Cannons are designed to fire anything that will fit into the barrel so long as it isn't so large that it plugs up the barrel.

There are plenty of first hand accounts from the Napoleon's russian adventure that relate russian troops running out of cannon balls and loading their cannons with everything from large rocks and apples to cut up fence posts and even firewood.

range saftey in the military is calculated by creating a "trace" behind the range which assumes the entire area dangerous or "live" up to and exceeding the maximum trajectory of a weapon fired at a 45 degree angle. a cannon is not a toy, these guys should not have fired a weapon with that range in the direction of a residential area that is WELL within the cannons trajectory. having said this... wow! the penetrating power of that cannon is amazing, two houses and a block wall!!!!

I support the Mybusters show and crew, but this is not the first incident that indicated they need higher technical expertise and safety responsibles. If they had the expertise that indicated the radius required they would have found another safe testing site for this myth.
