This ad is hypocritical at least, as signed treaties mean we are obliged to have these bases running on 10 year leases. Nice idea but if you think Ron Paul will close those bases you are wrong no president has that authority.

this ad makes a convincing argument. one has to wonder what the consequences of pulling out of the middle east altogether would be. if we leave, who else is going to go in and take over?

the strategic advantage that the united states military has in the ability to put boots on the ground of almost anywhere on the planet in 8 hours or less is one that stays the hand of many world leaders from invading our allies and possibly starting another world war. not to mention the intimidation of our ability to place a nuclear missile anywhere on the globe.

for that one reason alone they are absolutely invaluable.

@MrTVintro they are very happy to have them there, and no, it makes them less of a target for attack. you don't really want to mess with someplace that has direct connection with, and ground presence of arguably the strongest military force in the world.

also these bases strengthen our relationships with the host nations, and give the opportunity to the soldiers and surrounding civilians to interact and lean about different cultures. not to say their operations couldn't be improved.

Why the hell does America need a military base in Japan or Germany? These are both countries that have their own strong military and intelligence services that rival the CIA. Who the hell is going to threaten Germany or Japan? The Russians?

What do you think makes more friends, approaching somebody with a gun in your hand or approaching somebody with a kind smile?

@MrTVintro as much as i can respect your view, it hardly enjoys a majority of the population or, for that matter, the government. it doesn't matter what the issue, there will always be a section of the populous that disagrees.

there are many reasons why those bases are vital but i will just reference you back to the one i made a little earlier.

what do you think is more inviting to someone who wants to kill you and take your stuff, someone armed with a gun or a smile?

@MrTVintro the problem is not these bases, our world presence or "flexing our military arms" so to speak is good. peace through strength and all that. the problem is our current foreign policy of poking our fingers in the eyes of everyone.

i would love to see us out of the middle east altogether save for perhaps minimal, non-combat, base or two in willing host nations. the question you really have to ask is if we leave, who will go in to take over that tempting target? someone will.

We already have foreign troops in America, they're called SWAT/ BATF. The only thing is, American's haven't started fighting back against this foreign enemy as of yet.
