Gear never sounds remotely like it does in demo vids. I bought a 5-watt Marshall Class 5. It sounds INCREDIBLE, up until about 1/2 on the volume...After that, it begins, almost miraculously, to sound WORSE than the distortion on a solid-state Gorilla amp...People demoing that amp with the volume dimed and channeling "Rio Grande Mud" and "Physical Graffiti".....BOOO-WULL, SHIT...!!! I KNOW it would be the SAME with THIS amp....
just plain awesome, I can see the cabinet makes a significant change in the color the amp shows, but I still like the stock cabinet sound, those eminence speakers have their own thing XD
Something about a strat just makes alot of players gravitate to voodoo child and hit the low e and then the high e with ferocity lol. But it sounds good and lots of fun!
i got one of these bad boys, flippin sweet through my epi sg.
you gotta crank it just a little to get some distortion, but man oh mighty does this thing sound good! get a hot plate or a pedal and your in buisness
About two years ago, I thought I was alone in the realization that #1, the enclosure that houses your speakers IS and acoustic instrument, and #2, that like any acoustic instrument, being made of solid wood, it will sound a thousand times better than the same speaker mounted in a ply or MDF cab of the same dimensions. I have actually found a few others who don't look at me like I have two head when I say "no, don't replace the blue marvel in tha classic 30, replace the whole enclosure!".
It's refreshing to know that I am not the only one who sees this (it's only logical) and I have been building my own cabs for years, and a few for other people. Even knotty freakin' pine beats the hell out of plywood or mdf. I was wondering, do you use solid wood (thinstock maple, birch, or spruce work well) for the baffle? If you get a chance and haven't already, try it. It makes a HUGE difference in projection in ALL directions!
I've owned this amp for a little over a year now, and I have to say, it is the best sounding for the price range, and many times over! I use it in live applications, and the only time I have to mic it is when there's more than 50 people. Great AC/DC type sound, not a metal amp though. Loves single coils!!
I have been thinking about getting this amp :) 5 watt valve amps into a 12 inch speaker rules!! I tried this set-up in a hall and it was more than loud enough!!! with great tone! I wonder why you get guys that seem to think its only about 100 watts!!!
Awesome sounding amp! The only thing that stopped me from buying it was it had no master volume. 5 and 3 watts is still seriously loud. You gotta crank it to get that awesome overdrive. The price is right though, the combo was selling for $250 at the local shop.
what strat model are you using ? It has a great tone. i have a Handsome devil head and a BH 112 but find i have to use a tubescreamer to get the same sort of tone from my usa voodoo strat (2001 model)
this is a class wee amp, i have a marshall avt150 and when you turn both amps up and try get a decent distortion of course the marshall is louder but this gives a class proper crunch, far better than the marshall (its too thin). when you have the volume on it about just under half way it gives that really nice hendrix sound for the likes of little wing. ive got mine going into a marshall 1x12, id rather use this at a gig than any of them bigger amps with all the stupid effects and wotnot.
reguardless of speakers, i recommend this over the blackstar head. the blackstar is good and all, but half the knobs on it dont even make a difference, and , for me atleast, this worked out at well under half the price of the HT-5.
I get buzzing with blackheart cab that goes away when i use my 2x12 cab. I have added the mercury magnetics mod with transformers upgrade and it screams. You get way more gain and you can dial it back to get more original blackheart sound. Try it you'll like it.
i get buzzin on kinda or smthin from my speaker which is also the 10'' blackheart cab stock n shit.. i only get buzzin when i hit my bass notes like 3-5 fret on 6th string.. u guys get that? or do i have like a fked up cab?
Try seeing if any of the speaker mounting bolts are lose and tighten them up if they are. Also, if you have the cabinet on wheels, then that can also be a reason why it's buzzing.
Maybe it's a loose tube? The Circuit is great but let's face it they are probably constructed as cheaply as possible.
I used to get a rattle when I'd hit an E on my Fender DRRI. Turned out one of the tubes was slightly loose and I was hittin the natural frequency (or whatever it's called, I haven't been in a physics class for awhile :/.).
Maybe you just need to secure the tubes a tad snugger?
Basically the power the LG puts out is too much to handle for the cab's wood frame, put it on a 4x12 and the buzzing disappears. Another solution would be to put it next to the cab and not on top of it. I have two cabs and the mass of both cabs makes the amp more stable, and buzzing is gone... I 'm waiting for the 4x12s to be shipping and I'll order two to go with the 15 watt head I have on order.
I just found out the source of my buzz. The smaller transformer inside the head was it. With the head unplugged and the back cover off, I would tap on the side of the head and hear a faint buzz. I kept touching things and tapping until the buzz stopped. Wasn't the tubes afterall. The smaller transformer has 2 screw. I snugged down a bit more and Ta-Da! My buzz is gone. w00t!
so i got my ant, i am glad i went with the ant too although cranking at 5 watt gets kinda loud i still go there sometimes cuz the 5 watt tone is the killer. bout to get a tubescreamer for the amp though i think to get breakup at lower vol sometimes. i am listenin to your playing again and i love your sliding legato technique i think thats what it is... or liek a sliding trill type thing... could you offer anymore insight into this?
I realize now all I need is an attenuator to get a cranked amp at a low volume or through headphones. I'm sold! I'll pickup a Weber MicroMASS attenuator to go with it.
I was thinking about getting the Giant and mod it so it will play at 1w. The Ant volume is totally awesome for home, but the Giant tone just sounds so much better but even at 3w with full breakup its just too loud. Has anybody heard of doing this?
i got the giant yesterday and it sure is nice.. my tone isnt as sick as yours i dont think though, and playing obviously hahaha but do you still have the stock tubes in that or have you changed them? and also this is my first tube amp, i was thinking of gettin a tube screamer, thats a good one to make it break up at lower volume and more right?
also when you switch the amp from 5 to 3 watt or vice versa, it makes a popping noise and i am thinking that could be bad for the cab or amp. you should probably only switch from 3 to 5 when the amp is off right? or? what you think?
i cant decide on which one to get between the giant(this amp) and ant(1/4 watt head), this vid makes the giant sound NASTY though. that is prolly also attributed to ur awesome runs. i love your trill legato slide runs they are VERY cool as all your playing is like at 3:36 OMG wow i wanna learn a lick like that hahha and at 7:29 and 8:11 i cant stop listenin you are a beast dude
Both sound virtually identical, the KA is much more mangeable volume wise, and the giant has the EQ and power working for him. Basically the KA is the ultimate recording amp, and the Little Giant is more like a low-wattage but still enough rehearsal/gigging amp. I have both, and they're awesome amps.
man this thing sounds sweet. It's awesome that you are getting that many tones from just dialing in your guitar knob. Great video. I want one of these now!
This amp sounds excellent. I put mine through a 2x15 old fender bassman speaker cab. I paid $180 for the amp. Loud enough to use with a drummer. Great for the home. Buy it!!!!!!!!
at full volume, it is loud...but in the description he says the mic is about 10 feet away. Believe me this little fucker is damn loud... But sounds really nice...
Oh mate what a great demo, i just wish that amp came with Reverb.
