  • Amen. CGI is for the modern brainwashed, bird brained generation. Utter crap

  • CGI SHOULD Only Count For LIVE Action Movies Like Jurassic Park & Spiderman 2

    quality types of films.

When the ENTIRE Movie is MADE CGI - WITH No Human Actors involved It's Re-fabricated Shit!

Don't worry, the MORE Shit Pixar Pumps out/ the less People will care for their greatest latest newer ideas for kiddie films.

All They Can resort too Is Raping our childhood - Milking 80's cartoons.

-PEOPLE Don't wanna see The Fucking Chipmunks - THEY Wanna see another Sci-fi type or fantasy thrillers.

  • actually the simpsons movie was 3d...it was just cell shaded to look 2d...its also a trick anime artists use to make thier animations quicker and more realistically...also makes it easier to add effects.

  • Man, that's irony: animators who consider drawing by hand to be a "dead" art-form. The reason so many animated characters look like soulless marionettes these days is because many animators are inept draftsmen who rely on software (rather than skill) to construct scenes, characters and space. If you haven't mastered life drawing and perspective, you'll suck at animation. No different than a "musicians" who can't hear tones or play scales. Bypass the fundamentals and the art suffers

  • @ritter89 Then why do you need to go to college to learn how to use a computer in a professional workplace :P

  • Don't blame Disney or Pixar. Blame fucking DreamWorks, dude! They're the fucktards making Shark Tale and Bee Movie and other shitty films with thin-ass plotlines.

  • The only two studios that are actually doing CGI any justice are Disney and Pixar. The reason why Disney themselves got better with their in-house CGI films is because Pixar basically runs ALL of Disney's animation nowadays. Remember when Disney bought Pixar in 2006? Yeah, once the deal was completed, John Lasseter and Ed Catmull are the owners of both animation studios. I think they're doing a fantastic job, and they even brought back hand drawn animation at Disney.

  • 2 words : artistic style

But in defence The Polar Express, Mars Needs Mom's, A Christmas Carol.

New Rant: to stylize or not.

  • Your right on so many levels. I think that a lot of cgi animated films look too polished and much the same at times. Sure there are classics and the medium is still great, but please bring back more 2d features. Oh your wrong about the water and fish thing because look at The Little Mermaid again and the water effects in Pinocchio. Still good points you made.

  • Wall-E was good.

  • @MrDevin712 Almost any Pixar movie is good.

  • UH OH jiminy crickets it might hit him

  • LOL @ 2:00

  • I think it's generally Dreamworks that generally degraded the CGI Films! Pixar also had its part, but then again most of the Pixar films were actually good. Sure they had one or two missteps, but atleast their not going to start huge franchises over them like Dreamworks...

Correction though, that's how it was! Pixar is starting to make franchises by making Cars 2 and Monster's Inc 2! Plus why those films? Those films had a solid ending! Damn! Pixar is the new Dreamworks!

  • I love 2d animation, it was a beautiful art form, its so sad that every studio wonts to be cheep now and do CGI its become so boring as you say becose there all exactly the same, cheep gags, cheep scrips, nothing intelligent about them at all, I wont to see something that touches my heart as well as my brain, but sadly I don't think those awesome works of art that Disney and Don Bluth once did will ever come back, and I will never get to be the animator I always aspired to,

  • sad thing about those that are still going with 2d (i love 2d its my favorit form of animation though i love pixar i believe they are brillient) Anways sad thing about alot of new 2d shows and such they lack the same beauty the old ones possesed. They apepar all blocky and such that i see. I loved 2d films in classic disny becouse they captured such great emotion. You could see all a characters thoughts just by one head turn. not anymore. And im sick to my toes of everything being in 3d)

  • toy story was the only GOOD cgi movie

  • as an apsiring animator i dont believe that handrawn animation is dead, its just in a deep sleep right now and needs to come out of a coma. your gonna have to have a group of people come out and make a kick ass handrawn film, thats both appealing and marketable. honestly i think after a while people are gonna get sick of overload of cgi films.

  • @th3azscorpio Well Disney is making a 2-D traditional animated Winnie the Pooh film right now, so I'm feeling optimistic about traditional animation in the animation business.

  • @WalDemento999 really? i thought it was going to be 3D... that gives me hope that 2D animation can come back. im just soo sick of all these 3D cgi films mass produced. its overused, manufactured and has no artistic value whatsoever..

  • Pixar is the only good CGI movie company.

  • I like Pixar, but I'm gonna say that CG has made it harder for 2D animation. There are people out there who are trying to make 2D animated films but however nobody's buying into them. Ralph Bakshi has Last Days of coney island, Don Bluth has that Dragon's Lair movie, heck I could name more. But still. CG killed off 2D animation, I'm not agaisnt pixar. But 2D needs to be seen again, Princess and the frog was almost there.

  • @OriginalGagBonkers Its going to take time, The princess and the frog is a great start, Dreamworks is actually returning to 2D animation. Basically hand drawn characters meeting with CGI characters. If it does well they'll probably return to it. Who knows, maybe Pixar might make a 2D film to show these CGI studios that it's their stories that got them big

  • 2D Hand drawn animation is the best of all animation.

  • CGIS are shit.

They do NOT look realistic nor do they MOVE in a realistic fashion, e.g. fighter jets travelling at 5000mph and doing 'U-turns' at this speed.

I also cannot tell the difference between the film and the video game. A friend could not get Spiderman to jump on his X-box, until he realised he'd put the DVD in by mistake!

  • I remember water ship down DAM that was TFU however I mention it as a reflection to the adults attitude of animation many people I am surrounded with say animation is only for kids my dad put water ship down on for me when I was a kid thinking it was just a happy smiley kids show because it was animated many others share this opinion and when I point out films like ghost in the shell water ship down and similar and are met with Ghaaa that’s horrible if kids watched that it would traumatise them

  • Toy story 1 2 and 3 were great films. :/?

  • It's funny how you think I care you call me a troll. I don't give a fuck. And anyways how is being far from liberalism communism? Ur the Obama supporter you jerry fuck. And since your ranting about how you want everyone to be like you, your a communist dip shit. Now I am mad.

  • The FUCK are you talking about? I don't think you care that I'm calling you a troll - I'm calling you a troll because everything you are saying is completely irrelevant to anything I have ever said in any of my videos. It's hard to rebuke comments when they're so ludicrous that the only way to explain them is that they are meant to be that way.

Please, tell me where I have said I support Obama, or where I said I want everyone to "be like me".

  • Oh, and I said my political views were far from liberal, not communism was far from liberal. Furthermore, being an Obama supporter (which I am not, though you clearly have more hate for the man than I) is far from being a communist as well. Many of his administrations current policies come from Bush.

  • fucked*. Also I can tell your a liberal by the way you defend your self. And obama's liberal too. And sharing wealth and government helthcare and coltrol of student loans are all communistic ideas.

  • Heh, yes, you seem so very calm in all of the pleasantly worded and so very not hostile comments you've left me about absolutely jack shit. Honestly, it's obvious you're either trolling (and in which case you kinda outed yourself with your comment on my joke video about homosexuals) or... actually, I can't think of any explanation other than trolling.

  • Then again, you said you watched Fox News so you might just be insane. Truth is you'd probably hate my true political views far more than communism (again, just assuming here based on Fox News), even though they couldn't be farther from liberalism.

Heh, "commie". Good one, good sir.

  • Wow... I never called you a hippie. But I was never angry. I was completly calm. And anyways, my freedom of speach does not envoke communism. Communism is the ideal of shared " freedom". Communist don't have choices in there everyday life. Like spreading the wealth. Why should hard working capitalist lose money to those who ducked their own lives up?

  • No there is a difference. You can not like something and not voice it. Oppositin is the voiced oppinion of dislike. Fucking commie. And Its easy to tell.

  • Easy to tell that I'm a no good durn ol' hippie commie, huh? Do you dislike communists? Because telling somebody to not voice their dislike (while very angrily voicing your entirely unrelated dislike, I might add) sounds like a pretty communist ideal. Therefore, I have far more evidence of you being a communist than you have of me.

  • listen dude, CGI Animation kicks ass. i'll admit that cgi movies has gone downhill in nowadays, but one day they'll make one targeted to adults.

  • What's wrong with hand draw? What's wrong with cgi? Nothing. It's keeping up with time. Your a dumbfuck liberal communist who opposes everything that he doesn't like. If you like liberals then did you know Obama had multiple occasions to fix the BP spill but refused help from others? WTF!!!

  • Ha, wow, if these aren't troll comments they're the most hilarious ones I've seen yet. Really, so you got that I'm a "dumbuck liberal communist" out of exactly none of my videos that explicitly state my political views? Pretty observant of you, even though it's buttfuck insane that you would go into a rant about the BP oil spill in a video about cartoons that was made two years ago.

Also, yes, I suppose I do oppose everything I don't like. Probably because those two things mean the same thing.

  • Disney is making there return to hand draw animation starting with the princess and the frog.

  • well, I love animes and I also loved the lion king as a child, or Nemo and think they all are still great films

  • I agree.

  • Good points.

  • You do realise it technically started with Star Wars and not Pixmar, right? Lucasfilm created the Pixmar computer system and sold it, forming Pixmar..

  • u can always watch japanese anime films

  • I agree 100% I hate how all kids shows today are comedy, I miss the good old days where dbz was on and we actually seen some fights on tv

  • Pixar and old Disney. That's all that kept to tradition. And even now, Disney sold out leaving pixar to make recently bad movies

  • Pixar is the only studio I admire for their CGI movies. They are very good at making their stories original and fun for kids from ages 1 to 92. Others just fill it up with predictable plots, mean-spirited parodies of disney classics, pop-cultural references, and potty humor.

  • @fahmad27 amen! like dreamworks- ugh..

  • I saw robin hood not long ago and ive seen winnie the pooh for not so long ago. i cracked much more now then 10 years ago

  • The only CGI movies that I like come from pixar because what it comes down to is the story and pixar movies (excluding cars) all have wonderful stories that take their audience seriously. I will admit that it does really annoy me that there are no more movies that are hand drawn and now companies are making movies in 3D which I don't know about the rest of you but it strains my eyes after a while. I really miss hand drawn animation

  • whats wrong with Cars?? that movie had a plot! and it was good!

  • Comment removed

  • CGI sucks fuck it!

  • Why the hell do we need all of these cgi shits!?

  • Most cgi movies suck to me.

  • ALL of them suck.

  • Comment removed

  • only CGi movie i like is FF7 Advent children

  • Comment removed

  • Now that is true CGI mastery!!!

FF7 Advent Children kicks every other CGI movies asses!!!

  • @misukiyuki erm, no. Horrible, horrible film.

  • @misukiyuki erm, no. Horrible, horrible film.

  • its only the latest CGI movies that looks good and interesting. The first CGI movies looked very boring compared to the old hand drawn movies.

  • OMG!!! little opening song clip CALL BE by THE 69 EYES!!!!!♥♥ anyway...you have some really good points there...i miss the old hand drawn films.they should start making those again.

we grew up with these amazing films and i think everyone else deserves to too

    thanky thanky

  • The only CGI movies I liked are Pixar's movies, Shrek 1&2, Happy Feet, Monster House, Wallace & Gromit,Kung-Fu Panda,Dinosaurs, and Ice Age. Also I'm making 2D Cartoons movies when I become a director soon.

  • CGI animation is great when you want to visually convey subtlety in characters' emotions.

Cel-shading is great for imaginative spectacle and visuals.

They both have their visual strengths, but it all comes down to story.

  • i agree, the 2D animation is much better, but in some cases, CGI is needed. but the new disney movie the princess and the frog looks good as 2D

  • I am sorry but I can't agree.

CG allows teams to realise a lot more.

Also I feel alot of the arguments could easily be directed at hand animated movies.

They too were highly succesful. The Lion King for one.

  • Hells yeah. I don't watch any CGI-Animated child movie any more, it get's dumber and dumber, the jokes are not funny at all. Most of the time i dislike the characters. I especially don't like Pixar movies. Every year at least 3 new cgi-animationsfilms. I just don't feel the love any more.

I'm very thankful that Disney is doing a hand drawn animation again. And i'm going to see it.

  • I, for one, TOTALLY agree w/ you. And yes, I'm also gonna see that movie on opening day!

Everyone PLEASE support "The Princess and the Frog"! It could probably help bring in more traditional animation if it becomes successful. It might even slap companies like Dreamworks' in the face! They also used to make great movies:

    Prince of Egypt

    The Road to El Derado

    Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron

    (just to name a few...)

These were great traditional animated films in my opinion.

  • I'll only support it if the story looks good, and let's just say, it ain't lookin' bad.

  • My thoughts exactly, the CGI is being overuse and is getting pretty lame now.

  • CGI Rocks!

  • If thats the case then why have i not seen a guy's head being cut off in a cgi movie yet?

  • @thecommentmaster1 Beowulf.

  • Good work! keep it up son!

  • I clearly stated that I greatly enjoy Pixar's stuff.

My little tirade was mostly about the effects CGI can have - who needs a good plot when all anyone needs is eyecandy?

  • In that case your video is pointless.

  • Well, ain't that fine and dandy.

  • Fuck you, pixar can just kiss my ass!

  • You took the words right out of my mouth. Nicely done. ;)

You know, I watched a few Disney Classics a while ago (like the Lion King) and I was just having such a good time taking a trip back to my childhood. Like you said, now that I'm older I can appreciate the story and morals it's teaching. I've yet to see a CGI movie that I think will stick with me for the rest of my life like those classics did. :/

  • Duh! You saw these old movies as a child, that's why they made a lasting impression on you. When you judge the work of Pixar objectively you will find them vastly superior to flicks like Bambi.

  • Piss off pixar fanboy!

  • The Simpsons movie had computers involved in it's production quite a bit. Even South Park is computerised to produce the episodes.

You really do seem just to have old-person syndrome... back in my day... etc, etc.

Hand drawn skills for cartoon movies were around for many, many years, and 'cgi' has been around in movies for considerably less time, so which is the more overused style of production?

  • I never said I was against computers, I'm not naive enough to think anything isn't going to be made with the aid of CGI.

My problem is that, back then, traditional animation was the ONLY animation, whereas now we have the opportunity for more variety. We're just not using it.

  • Amongst the large entertainment companies, to produce anything in the traditional method would cost more because it would take a lot longer. The transitional period between old and new was when the likes of Treasure Planet, and Beauty and the Beast were bought out .

2D is still done though, but it's usually the smaller companies, and indi animators, who don't have access to as much technology. It's purely and simply, just where technology has moved to, driven by the 'market leaders' & profit.

  • Heh, that's basically what I was complaining about.

Perhaps "traditional" animation was a wrong choice of words on my part - I couldn't give a care about how something is made, but rather what it looks like. I never condemned 3D animation - just the reliance on it in recent films.

  • The point is that, with the exception of The Simpsons Movie, which was excellent, they're squandering the animated movie genre these days with drivel. That was the point.

  • yeah I say fuck CGI

  • you know what annoys me? cell shaded cartoons, like galactic football and the new biker mice from mars. I miss cartoons like the ones I grew up on. Swat Cats ftw

  • I miss Don Bluth Studios....*sobs*

  • @SidNightWalker hell yeah!

  • Yeah, now there are almost no real scooby doo and flintstones from the 60's, and Johnny bravo and Anderson family on TV. It is only these lame animation things that is really boring nowdays.

As they say: Everything was better in the old days...

  • Hand drawn will always be superior

  • I hate CGI in most movies.

Every time CGI is used in an otherwise non-animated film, it just serves as a blatant reminder that you're watching a movie, completely breaking the illusion of reality. CGI rarely, if ever, looks truly realistic. 'Sky Captain', for example, didn't look real; it looked like exactly what it was - real actors with a blue screen behind them for the entire film. It doesn't look right, and for me, it needlessly ruins movies.

  • Well i wouldn't say that...i mean, a puppet or a set may actually physically be there but they never looked any more realistic to me than CGI because i've always known how they do stuff.

CG allows for a far more dynamically artistic pallet, and for an artist's perspective that's a wonderful thing.

As long as you use it properly.

  • I loved the older Scooby Doo Shows, but now they..just do not have much appeal (The newer 'shiner' ones

  • i don't think the fact that all these films are made on computers is the problem, i mean i thought the simpsons movie was crap (that show started to go downhill in 2001 or 2002), it's that the film studios know that that majority of people will pay to see any old shit so they know they don't have to put any effort into the story or characters. It's the same with live action films, how many films would you say are actually worth your money? For me not many at all.

  • Other than that The Simpsons movie fucking ruled, i agree with you.

  • I agree with u, but I do love pixar Im not gonna lie, but I feel that companys like dreamworks sort of stole from pixar, I mean if pixar never happened we would never have dreamworks, or any other cgi films, and I also love pixar cause the storys behind the films are always great, hell Im 14 yrs old and I love films like wall e nd finding nemo, cause they always have great story plots nd characters

  • I'm eighteen and I love Pixar films. Though Pixar is known mainly for its CGI, their films' true strength is the writing.

  • Kung Fu Panda had great fighting styles, a decent story, NOT A SLAPSTICK, but would've been better in 2-D. WALL-E, had great graphics, a great story, a few laughs, but it was WAY better movie than FUCK CHIMPS!!! WALL-E was also more of a love, serious story than damn Ratatouille. While FUCK CHIMPS, is about some fag monkeys with just slapstick, fuck...

  • because talking animals NEVER gets old

  • It does in terms of CGI -.-....

  • You know... what's worse is that animation like you see in Family guy, or total drama island... or bill and mandy.. its like horribly simplified animation that takes very little effort to make.

you could quite honestly make your own episodes in a relitivly short period of time if provided the same tools as them

  • Cartoons look like flash animation now. The backrounds have no depth in all the CN and Nick cartoons now. Look at the Fleischer cartoons, the backrounds were purposely painted duller and fuzzy to make the characters stand out. Total Drama Island doesn't make sense. It's a parody of a reality show, that's animated. What's the point of a cartoon that just has talking and no action or visual humor. Sure it has that, but most of the time it's just the characters talking to each other.

  • Yea, I don't really like the flash style animation they use now at all...

It was ok when it was new and gave things that sharp new look, but... it's just so overused now.

I remember back when everyone voted for billy and mandy over robot jones and some other cartoon I cant remember.

  • So that's what happened to Robot Jones. Flash doesn't bother me as long as it's for internet related cartoons. Homestarrunner is pretty good, and Newgrounds has some great Mario parodies. But for television it should strictly be traditional.

  • Your argument is completely valid. You think that CGI would free up the artists to look more into character and story. Now it's just making them lazy.

  • I miss 2D cartoons also. That's one of the reasons that I loved The Simpsons trailers. It shows this adorable 3D rabbit in a beautiful CGI world... and then gets crushed by the 2D title. I've also thought about how far video game graphics have come in just my life time. I remember when the Playstation's 3D graphics and voice overs were amazing. Now in-game graphics trump even the best CG cinematics of way back when and text conversations are a thing of the past(even though they just moved irl).

  • I was wrong earlier. The "Yay! (happiness)" part made my life complete.

    - your fanboy.

  • Very true, i miss 2d animation. People seem to think that the more realistic you get with the effects then the better product you have. Very good rant, and nice hit with the star wars clone wars movie. The creator of the 2d clone wars cartoon series was inspired by japanese art. Japanese art is known for having a very flat quality which i think he was inspired by as his series look very flat. So why the heck did they think it was a good idea to make a flat style in a cgi envirement? Very strange

  • I don't get it either. What's the point of making it 3D. The movies were live action, and shot in a 3D world. Why make a cartoon version of the movie in 3D when it's already 3D. CGI doesn't make sense to me. If you want to animte something to have 3 dimensional depth, then you should use stop motion animation. I'm a traditional animation student, and everyone else in my class agrees.

  • 2D movies, ftw...*_*

  • 5 stars man

  • I love your vids! Keep making them.
