I feel your pain man, I really do. There are times where it seriously feels like the game itself is trying to make me lose. It got so bad, I punched a hole in my living room wall.

One of the most fucked up things this game does to me far too often if materialize a bomb or some kind of explosion right where I have just launched an attack, and I swear it's so accurate that I know I'm going to hit it, but can't stop.

I don't know if it can happen in Brawl (camera angles and gravitational effects may prevent it)...but I know that in Melee there's something even worse that can happen on Corneria where you get shot by the small ship while it's out of camera range, land on the small ship hitstunned, and then before you can even stand up it speeds off the top of the screen and kills you. I've lost matches because of this, but I can't help but laugh every time it happens. XD
