I had not heard this before but like it a lot. Bo is one of the best rockers of all time. Love his stuff. My little brother got to see him when he came to Portland Oregon back in the 90's. For lack of $20 I didn't get to go. This I will regret forever. RIP Bo! You were one of the GREATS. Thanks for posting.
The more I listen to Bo (whom I loved when I was a 8 year kid 40 years ago but had forgotten since) the more I realize the tremendous influence he had on Jimi
Hendrix. Of course on each and every guitarist on the planet. But it's obvious with Jimi when you think about the relation between the man and the guitar
Every inch of bo's musicianship feels integrity and talent
Not only was Bo the original rockstar, he also pioneered hard rock and metal. because he used distortion and overdriven sounds before anyone else, including Hendrix and Link Wray.
Link's got his own thing for sure, but theres no doubt he owes a hell of a lot to Bo.
If you ever listen to the mono version of Pink Floyd's piper at the gates of dawn with Syd's guitar mixed to the front, you can hear him doing his own skritchy skratchy Bo Diddley impression on Lucifer Sam and Take Up Thy Stethoscope and Walk.
back in 91, was at chuck berry's in east saint louis.......Bo was there!
During the roll up for Desert Storm my father had contacted some one for some cassettes....one of the pride was a Bo Diddley recording....Autographed by Bo!
along with this came back stage pass's for any venue......I was able to get a second autograph from Bo and one from Chuck....it was a great night of music!!!!
Actually, this is on the album 2 Great Guitars. This is actually both Bo Diddley and Chuck Berry, which makes it even better really. You can tell which one is bo, cause it has that awesome solid sound that inovated rock and roll everywhere.
The first thing that comes to my mind is vibrato, but that is more associated with BB King's style of blues guitar. Vibrato doesn't work quite as effectively with acoustic guitar, but with amplification, it quickly became an essential lead technique. BB King has said something along the lines that his signature sound really took shape when he realized that if he put vibrato into nearly any note he sustained on the electric guitar, it gave him that distinctive "feeling" he was looking for.
Yes! When I heard the opening notes I thought, he is playing Rebel Rouser. But of course, the song is Saints Go Marching In, and I am kind of embarassed that I never realized that Duane just adapted an old traditional song and slapped a new name on it!
I was luckily able to see Bo at the Chicago Blues Fest a few years ago, he was sitting down for most of the act, and I was stuck way out on the lawn, but a rockin' good time was had by all, I think Bo really was excited to be back in the Windy City, getting a hero's welcome!
I agree with Hefzilla. Man, Bo and many others got the shaft while paler versions came along, mimmicked and got all the credit and dough. Rest in Peace Bo, along with all the other greats. :(
Bo starts off this classic tune kind of normal but then starts to add his own unique touches and gets it rocking. It was recorded about 1960. The photos are from the early 70's.
