ok i have no clue on BOVs but if BOV "vents it into the atmosphere when the car is not under load (in between shifts)", how about flat foot shifting? since flat foot shifting doesnt release the gas pedal when shifting, am i right to say the pressure that builds up in the turbo will only be released after the final 6th gear is in placed and the gas pedal is no longer depress?
@jojojo9991 it will always be venting to regulate the pressure going into the engine. otherwise it will continue to build up. flat foot will just ruin the clutch
@clos19851 still admitting your looking for gay things...... but now also admitting that your childish and need mommy to set you straight... if your not into the STi than go make a blog or something don't trash someones video that they took time to buy parts and make a video... if you hate the STi go watch what you like not what you hate. its like you being straight but watch gay porn......
@krazydrummer285 wow your the better person in this argument hahaha.. how do you got a whole paragragh outta this I dont know.. oh here comes another paragraph
@W3StCoAsTSTi you don't need a turbo for a BOV lol.. but without a turbo your engine don't need it so it is useless.. but you can install a BOV on a naturaly aspirated car
when you are near a car, or watch a video of a car with a turbo you will hear a spooling sound, like a the engine is whining. A BOV (Blow Off Valve) is the whoosh! or psst! you will hear once the driver lets off the gas pedal
relieves compressor surge without reducing compressor speed. It controls boost pressure that is built up by the turbo and vents it into the atmosphere when the car is not under load (in between shifts). This prevents pressure from backing up into the compressor housing, causing the turbo impeller blade to rapidly stop or even worse, to spin backwards (compressor surge or backspin). Doing so can be potentially destructive to the turbine wheel and shaft.
@TSWG00 Dude do you even read what you are typing. The BOV has nothing to do with controlling the boost pressure that job is for the boost controller and the waste gate. Yes a BOV prevents compressor surge but how exactly is a mere 18psi or less of AIR going to bring impeller blades that are spinning at 40 000 - 100 000 rpm to a dead stop or LOL spin backwards in a split second? LOL they can't!!
All compressor surge is pressure on the blade that is slowing them down and putting them understres
Yeah, it is rice. I have an 07 sti. and before that a wrx. everyone knows that a blow off valve on a subaru is rice...and bad for your car because you are venting to atmosphere when the MAF thinks that air is going back into the intake. so you're running rich, and your car is rice.
not true to a certain extent. as long as you tune and set the bov to the right time when there is no compression surge and make sure that its not leaking you only run rich in between shifting of gears but in that time you barellllly run rich at all.
this aint no rice lol

i know what a turbo is but what is a bov, does it just make the sound of a turbo with out having one!
blancorum 2 years ago
no you have to have a turbo to have a BOV.

yoben2000 1 year ago
@W3StCoAsTSTi it's because it is used to release the pression and on there is no pression in a non-turbo engine
