This game takes place in a different universe completely so nothing with children or whatever and no references to bioshock 1 and 2 at all. The tiny big daddy getting crushed in the beginning symbolized the end of that universe. The thing you saw crush it is a handyman which has a heart and a human head. The city also represents exceptionalism so that is why you see so many American flags and propagandas.
@ChinnyMUFC1993 I will give it in a nutshell : A man called Andrew Ryan was tired of the rules and moral found on land so he built a city underwater free from moral and law.He named it Rapture. The doctors that came with him could, without the moral choices on the surface, come up with a new genetic material called ADAM. ADAM could be found in a type of slug found on the bottom of the ocean and in corpses. ADAm is higly addictive.
@IncreaseProduction Why? Just because of the method used to inject Adam? Drugs may be part of what Bioshock slightly references, but it would be a disservice to the writers to just claim the whole series is a giant drug reference.
Wow this is a crap review, ALL this information is out their that they are speculating about 1. They are not big daddies 2. Its in the same universe 3. MAGICAL POWERS? Wow you guys suck.
If Columbia floats around, could it be possible that the building stop floating over the future sight of Rapture and sink to the bottom and Andrew Ryan finds the buildings and puts them together differently? Just a thought.
you know the big daddy in the fish tank could just be a kinda symbolism for them moving away from the scene of rapture and all that, the tiniest little thing doesnt have to fit
@marvelous3999 video games are basically interactive books. i don't think people should assume that other people didn't pay attention to stuff because they cant know. maybe they interpreted the game different than you just like how when they made the game they were interpreting Ann Rands Atlas Shrugged.
OKAY GUYS SRY ABOUT THESE CAPS HERE BUT IT GETS PEOPLES ATENTION the new ones are not called big daddies. i think they're called alphas or somethin like that also rapture was CREATED befor 1912 im pretty sure so thats the fish tank thing, im not saying these guys are stupid or anything, its just that i read it from game informer and other sources cuz i am a big bioshock fan, please could people thumb this so all otyher bioshock fans can see
wow, when i first saw the bioshock infinite trailer i thought that it would be after rapture and that the male character was the main character from bioshock 1 and that the female character was from bioshock 2. how they would meet together i dont know my brain could only think on the subject for so long. oh well thanks for the inside information.
Guys can somebody explain to me what happened to rapture i know its destroyed (Happy ending ) but how this relates to bioshock series PLEASE EXPLAIN !!!!!!!
why do you care if it is realistic Ian? Can you imagine how stupid it would be if video games were realistic? thumbs up if you know where this came from!
Just a theory, but I feel as if Elizabeth and Eleanor have a connection. The citizens are all after Elizabeth because she's the ultimate weapon in Columbia, as is Eleanor in Rapture. Perhaps, they're related? Or maybe Eleanor's a clone...Also, Elizabeth is extremely attached to Him like Eleanor is extremely attached to her Big Daddy. Lots of similarities.
I'm pretty sure the entire "sea" part in the fishtank, especially with the appearance of the Big Daddy, is just meant to mislead you. I don't think it has anything to do with anything that's actually going to be in Infinite.
Kind of sad, actually. I don't think they'll ever match Rapture. Ever. Columbia is in broad daylight, and I just think that Bioshock IS Rapture. I feel that they should end the series before it has nothing to do with the first game.
@eaowizard19 It has hardly anything to do with the first game, rapture was done and finished and now they have taken it to the sky instead of the sea, which i personally think looks a lot more interesting and fun.
@Vluxine I know. I agree with everything you just said. I actually didn't like Bioshock 2 because I felt I had had enough of Rapture by the end of the first game. The thing is, though, I think that Bioshock 1 should have been one game, and I think Infinite should just be treated as a seperate series/game/entity.
In short, I think Infinite looks awesome. I just think we should let the Bioshock franchise go. Thanks for your feedback.
Yay now donkey kong and dragons are in bioshock ? With glowing heart things well thats stupid i can already tell what you have to do and problably its collecting those to gain power but IDK for sure just my opinion.
@praskagi nevermind about my hypothesis. I searched bioshock wiki and it said that andrew ryan was born in russia and came to america after the events of bioshock infinite :(
(continuation)...with the exception of military exploits and war crimes, this was one of the darkest periods in our nation's history. Why would you honestly want to just play the same fucking atmosphere of Rapture over and over? How much damage can the city's infrastructure sustain? > 'BioShock 3: Dead Horse'(?) You should be excited that BioShock is attempting to become a franchise via thematically-related stories with the premise that "History does not repeat itself, but it does rhyme"
(continuation)..The turn-of-the-century Americana motifs that highlight this game pay homage to the socio-political propaganda of the period following our nation's centennial; nurturing the idea that America was qualitatively different from the rest of the world; the same ideologies that would precipitate around the world in the event of WWI and ultimately effect the trajectory of the United States for the proceeding century - as a superpower. ..(con.t)
To everyone.. the setting and context to this new BioShock shines light upon a period of American history, (and world history), that is rarely touched upon in popular culture and the media. The half-a-century following the end of the American Civil War was characterized by ultra-nationalistic sentiments regarding foreign policy and world affairs, as well as instances of cultural Exceptionalism...(cont.)
I heard in an interview that this is set in another universe from the first two games. I prefer the sequel idea with the guy stretching being Andrew Ryan or his dad and the different Big Daddy character being a precursor model it makes sense that way. Also in the other game Ryan said that he created Rapture to escape from religeon and all that. Just my humble opinion on the matter though I prefer the sequel theory myself.
I don't hate Columbia, but this just isn't a BioShock setting. Bioshock is supposed to be a horror game, with creepy dark places and scary creatures lurking in the shadows, this setting just doesn't look like it'll provide that. Rapture was THE perfect setting for a horror-shooter, much better than the setting in L4D for instance. But there are some good things to mention as well, like the awesome boobies. Oh, and the magical powers/plasmids/whatever look even better than before!
@RsGhost1 Definitely doesn't look as good as Rapture but we'll see. It's pretty early on still. They probably should've avoided the Bioshock title. Obviously they did it for marketing purposes but it's just going to draw unwanted comparisons since it looks so different from what the series has become known for.
if that was set before bioshock that can be andrew ryan it has the same record player that he has in the office. I think it is andew ryan because then we can meet him and he can let us on a secret saying im going to build a city under the sea
Woah, if that guy they said was andrew ryan, that could possibly be his dad. Andrew Ryan could have been tired with the wealthy, patriotism, and religion. Don't you remember when you first entered the bathysphere? Ryan said those were his reasons to create Rapture.
@UnSuffering that or its rosevelt i meen the playing your a grand ole' flag and theres a amarican flag in the backround, i meen he was president at the time...
@UnSuffering I believe Irrational Games has outright stated that Infinite takes place in a completely different setting with no connection to Bioshock 1, 2, or the System Shock games, but it's still a fun idea.
@UnSuffering nah dude in bioshock 2 there where adio logs and i found one in this room that was andrew ryan he said lamb is looking for me so goodbye andrew ryan changes voice and hello new name i forgot his name but i will check and let you know
No he was tired of people saying he wasn't entitled to his own earnings, because he lived through the Bolshevik Revolution, and was disgusted by the uprising communist values. It wasn't in no way Wealth, Patriotism, nor Religion.
If you ACTUALLY payed attention to the game, you'd find that he was wealthy, held Rapture society above all other societies (which is a piece of patriotism), and he specifically said that all religion is welcome, which how Bioshock 2 started. Pay attention
@UnSuffering I dont want to rule out any possibilities. If the big daddy design was in that tank at the start of the trailer, that means someone connected to rapture easily could have been in columbia and got the idea for the big daddy from it
Well, I assume in Bioshock 1, Andrew Ryan is possibly in his late 50's, early 60's, or younger, so, with that said, it's possible that the man listening to the music could be Andrew Ryan somewhere in his 20's or 30's.
i have a comment on the whole andrew ryan thing. It is BEFORE bioshock 1 and 2. therefore it could very well be his father and andrew is a child on the blimp world. or if that IS andrew
idiot game bioshock is not bioshock withought bigdaddyes little sisters rapture this is not bioshock creat a new game to this game because if the game its not in rapture its not bioshock
@ziBennett they know about as much as you or me. and what are they? not plasmids they are injected in to ones arm. and that is called splicing and if they did they would be splicers. i didnt see any did you?
@ziBennett they are not plasmids. plasmids are made by ryan industries. he wasnt even born yet sir. in the bioshock 2 "gameplay" trailer they did not show every enemies but most. and if they spliced up one they became addicted, eve is very addicting. and what would they be if there not?
@InsaneRoacher It came from the hilarious Literal - Bioshock infinite Trailer. So don't look down, Don't look down DON'T LOOK DOWN WHY'D YOU LOOK DOWN! You're lucky theres a blimp! Grab onto the handle bar- ITs too far awaaayy. Look around the FLOATING TOWN Floating building wants to be higher then the otehrs so it BooOOOSTS its self.... RIPING NOISE?!?! And there he goes into a nest of dethorned roses, floating into the arms of a buxom chick, whos oyur daddy? ME. My bad... xD
I really like the direction the Bioshock series is taking i would have been dissapointed if the third installment had been in rapture again, don't get me wrong i think rapture is one of the greatest game settings of all time but this seems fresh and like nothing i have played before.
The "Big Daddy" is called a handyman. But "Him" is much more of a daddy than the hm. And "Him" is the Big Daddy dynamic. More you hurt Big Bird, more Elizabeth will hate you. How to survive an encounter with that thing without hurting it is beyond me.
the woman holding the baby in the billboard is the Fictional American Figure, Columbia, in which the city is named after. Which is trying to say this city is for the chosen ones only. Special children only. you know?
@wesleykangboy The flags in the game have 46 stars actually.. as seen from a HD screenshot. BioShock Wiki trys to explain: ''Although it should be the 48 Star Flag due to Arizona and New Mexico entering the Union, the citizens of Columbia probably hadn't been able to replace the flags, or were either unable to learn of their admittance due to a radio blackout around or after 1907.''
im guessing the "Burden not Columbia with chaff" could mean when you separate things of value from things of no value, this probably means that you are born with these new powers or something and they are the children that survive while they get rid of the so called "chaffs" that I think are children born without any powers.
Not exactly. It's just one of those things where America thinks they're better than the rest of the world (which they aren't), and won't share their "dream" with any foreigners.
Hehe... Hilary.

"magical powers" why are these clueless cunts going over this?
ziBennett 11 months ago
@ziBennett they know about as much as you or me. and what are they? not plasmids they are injected in to ones arm. and that is called splicing and if they did they would be splicers. i didnt see any did you?
scooterrules191 11 months ago
@scooterrules191 the "magical powers" are plasmids.
And its only a trailer why would they show all the enemies?
Its a trailer so they havent shown all the enemies.
And wait your saying in Bioshock 1 when he took the plasmid he turned into a splicer? NAW, don't think so.
ziBennett 11 months ago
@ziBennett they are not plasmids. plasmids are made by ryan industries. he wasnt even born yet sir. in the bioshock 2 "gameplay" trailer they did not show every enemies but most. and if they spliced up one they became addicted, eve is very addicting. and what would they be if there not?
scooterrules191 11 months ago
@scooterrules191 The "magical powers" are obviously plasmids.
And you seriously think in a trailer they are going to show all the enemies?
Also are you trying to say that in Bioshock 1 when we take the plasmid we turned into a splicer?
NAW, dont think so.

I really like the direction the Bioshock series is taking i would have been dissapointed if the third installment had been in rapture again, don't get me wrong i think rapture is one of the greatest game settings of all time but this seems fresh and like nothing i have played before.
NUFCKris 1 year ago
Does this city remind anyone else of Georger Bluth Sr.'s Blimp City from Arrested Development?
And the fact that this was an actual plan at one point is hilarious.

Special children only. you know?

The American flag had 48 stars in 1912. Go do your research.

Look at 4:31. It's got 48 stars.
wesleykangboy 1 year ago
@wesleykangboy The flags in the game have 46 stars actually.. as seen from a HD screenshot. BioShock Wiki trys to explain: ''Although it should be the 48 Star Flag due to Arizona and New Mexico entering the Union, the citizens of Columbia probably hadn't been able to replace the flags, or were either unable to learn of their admittance due to a radio blackout around or after 1907.''
laurigun1 1 year ago
im guessing the "Burden not Columbia with chaff" could mean when you separate things of value from things of no value, this probably means that you are born with these new powers or something and they are the children that survive while they get rid of the so called "chaffs" that I think are children born without any powers.

Not exactly. It's just one of those things where America thinks they're better than the rest of the world (which they aren't), and won't share their "dream" with any foreigners.
