    5.) Dubstep

  • does the kinectar software come with a method to do this without a NI like massive? and what DAW are you using and is it free?

  • @pivotdeatheater Kinectar is a toolkit to turn your Kinect into a MIDI controller. So it doesn't make any sounds itself. I'm using Ableton Live for my Kinect stuff. It's not free though. I don't know of any free DAWs that are similar to Ableton Live. Kinectar is designed to be more of a toolkit to expand electronic musician's arsenal of controllers and to bring the Kinect into the music making realm.

  • @synaecide Downloaded kinectar yesterday and got it working with FL studio in about an hour. Great stuff man! I understand the basics now and am just messing around with what to change with what axis. in the video you said that you change the cutoff with both the right and left y axis? I understand the cutoff, but why both hands doing the same thing? sorry for bothering you so much, and thanks man!

  • @pivotdeatheater happy to hear you've got a cranking on FL. it really is up to you how you want to map your controls - at the end of the day, you'll be making your own music with it, so you should make sure it's setup comfortably for you. having said that, a common way that i've mapped basslines is (left-x) > pitch.. (left-y) > filter cutoff.. (right-z) > LFO amount... (right-y) > LFO speed.... you might want to swap left-right hands depending on which hand you prefer.

  • what is the massive music thing you are using to mod the basslines and what not...and is it a free download by chance thanks

  • @ClownTown15 massive is a software synthesizer by Native Instruments, check it out on google! and no, its not for free

  • you should have made it so the sound raises when you lower your hand rather than raise it. it would seem more natural. also I would like to add, the reverey stuff you do at 3:27 is fucking dope. good job man. your a genius.

  • I have complete respect for your creation. With that in mind please stop speaking! it ruins it.

  • @GiantMidget54321 then mate, this is the wrong video for you! if you don't want to hear me talk, don't watch the explanation video... simple

  • could this be done with fruity loops? even just the demo?

  • @pivotdeatheater with my particular setup, as long as the software or device accepts MIDI or OSC, it can be done. this includes, Reason, FL, Cubase, Logic, Ableton Live, hardware synthesizers, VJ / visual programs.... heaps of stuff =)

  • are you using 2 kinects? and also could you put a tutorial for setting up all the programs and etc? this is awesome!!

  • @pivotdeatheater thanks :).. no i'm just using one kinect for all my performances and videos. i haven't tried it with two. i will be doing a full tutorial soon with the release of my kinect music performance software. keep an eye on my channel. peace

  • @synaecide ill subscribe and wait for your tutorial! and your making a music software? whats all in it?

  • do you hear the music in real time or did you add it to the video?

  • @TheShootHappy the audio you hear in this video was all done live. nothing was dubbed over later.

  • @synaecide that's pretty amazing.

so do the links lead to install, or are they just disclaimers?

they seem to be leading to install, but i dont quite understand what programs i need or where i download them... (why cant there just be a pretty "download" button like on most other sites that have free software)

  • @TheShootHappy it's quite a complicated setup... there's a much simpler solution over at zigfu.com they've got a 1-click install for all the necessary OpenNI drivers to get the Kinect working on PC and Mac.

  • tht is FKN mint! i just wonder what it would sound like when i put my dancing moves in it :P I want one!!!

  • how do i make it so i can use my osceleton insted of synapse plz help

  • @ABDL53661 OSCelecton just interprates the data from the Kinect and outputs OSC values. In order to use this OSC data in Ableton, you must use a program that can convert OSC into MIDI. I'll be releasing a program soon which is designed for use with OSCelecton.

  • That is amazing mate. Kinect is gay but jesus that is genius

  • Dancing to make music!

    Genius.

  • 3:30 is arguably the coolest thing I've seen done with a tech exploit like that dude...

  • Genuis!

  • talk about air guitar.. well. air turntables. XD

  • This could turn into an art form

  • This could help people getbtheir creative mind out without having to learn all the softwares needed... ( In the final product of this dubstep kenect)

  • so can anyone do this

  • would it be possible to use OSCulator instead of max/msp?

  • @drkmttrbeats quite possible. i've never used OSCulator, but give it a go and let me know if it works.

  • @synaecide hey. can you give me a program that i could get without using my kinect when making dubstep. cuz i dont have one! ha. but just like a free program or somehting. thanks

  • I need to find this pitch note information module .... heeeeeeeeelp :p

  • @juliendavidb Scale plugin, it's built into ableton live.. It's just there to keep the MIDI notes in key

  • @drkmttrbeats thanks for replying. i'm slow with comments! but exactly that

  • yaa whats the notes module on the bottom left corner ????

  • Great work:D Thanx for this tutorial:)

  • THIS IS SO MEGA GODDAMN AWESOMEEEE I AM CRYING!! T_T

  • so instead of dancing to music your music to dancing ?_?

  • @TheMazithra I lol'd. And I never lol.

  • @leakeg then my job is done :D

  • The possible applications for using Kinect are amazing. I've been dabbling with the Xbox controller functionality but this is something else. Thanks for the vid brother

  • This could mean some crazy shit for music games.

  • This is like travelling to space... was never meant to happen but so dam fulfilling

  • That's inspired , genius!

  • GTFO! wow

  • Freakin' awesome.

  • What patching have you used to get your data into ableton? Can't work out how to do it.

  • not fake, not pointless, just stupid.

  • woah dude thats awesome :D

  • this is something new! awesome awesome idea

  • Bam! Take that Theremin! Keep up the great work!

  • @beltbuckleengineer theremin??? not only that..... also i think it beats the haken continuum .... and the kinect does not cost 5000 USD..... so take that lippold haken!!!

  • any chance you could do an instructional video showing the setup process?

  • thats pretty awsome man love your way of thinking

  • Its fake!

    Now do another video please.

  • TOO awesome. As soon as I can afford a Kinect, I'm doing this.

  • thanks, this explains everything :)

  • @roidroid no problem. i'll certainly post videos with more information on screen from now on. thanks for the interest mate!
