in the old days, before LP's, an artist would release a collection of songs on 10" vinyl records. each record had one song on each side. and every collection was eight songs. always eight. every time.

the 8 songs were release on 4 disks, and the 4 disks were bound together like a book. like, umm, an album.

but now an album just means 'a collection of songs' so anytime you release three or more songs, its an album. in any form.
