Too bad the wave motion gun was badly damaged. If they could have hit the bottom of the fortress, both it and Zordar's dreadnought would have been vaporized.
Its said that most of the turrets were beyond repair, the hangar bay was destroyed and the yamato nearly crushed and now its fully repaired immediatley? The yutor seemed to forget something...
@isard99 dash says only 1 and 2 turrets are gone so we should have only seen that working unless you want to go with the Sman working triple time on the guns.
I never wondered why the crew just don't wear their space gear when they are in combat? They wear their side arms at all times they might as well be prepared for hull breaches!
Right boys, you know the plan. You get inside, you take out the generator. Don't mind the Stormtroopers, just avoid the waste facilities. Meanwhile, Obi-Wan will take care of...
Nonsense, the Star Wars Series came out after the Yamato series. More like the Star Wars series being a big ripper not only of this series, but plenty of other shows as well
Actually not. Star Wars I was one year earlier than Arrivederci Yamato where the Comet Empire first appeared. Thus I am afraid that this time, Yamato stole from Star Wars.
Very unlikely. Read around and you'll find out that Star Wars was "inspired" by numerous other films. Either way, both film series can't really be compared to each other. It isn't fair to do so
Yet the parallel plot is striking in this case. Too striking not to be dependent upon each other, I believe. Even though it may seem like good tactics to enter the alien fortress, dodge hundreds of stormtroopers and take out the generator. But actually, I had expected the Yamato just to provoke Gatlantis to launch and then target the lower side with the wave motion gun. It seems that even Zordar was not that stupid to leave it TOTALLY unprotected...
Well, Sabera was overly complacent. Makes me wonder why the Earth Defence Force never used their magnetic missles on the fortress that they used on the Yamato earlier in the series. In the end, I suppose the producers wanted to show what humans should be capable of, the honourable and great self sacrificial spirit so that others may live.
btw if you like Star Wars, look at my favorites (George Lucas talks about the influence of samurai movies on Star Wars, Darth Vader vs Japanese Police).
@r3ad28 it did a big part in working your emotions, my favorite is right after they do the small warp on desslok, you really felt hope and cheered your ass off!:) number 2 is when conroy and the tigers start their attack, you really feel like " shit they could do it!"
i wonder what happens here if the yamato is able to use the wave motion gun on the botto of the fortress.........the comet empire people probably drown?
I don't understand how the fictional characters in this story justify losing their entire fleet to gain 1 small planet. If it was me, I would have said, forget about it, and invaded someone else.
I think the wave motion energy is like anti matter, so it should be 100 times more powerful per amount. There is a lot of energy from the wave motion gun. a Nuclearmissle is like a firecracker compared to the wave motion gun.
Exactly. When they have fleets of giant space battleships and a ring of laser satellites, why would Earth keep a bunch of nukes lying around the home planet?
Sure, if they wanted to blow up the Earth's capital city that the Comet Empire was floating next to.
Besides, considering that the Earth was almost wiped out by radiation from Gamilas' planet bombs only a year ago, I don't think that making nuclear bombs is high on their priority.
Well making nuclear bombs should be high on their priority as they now know its strength and therefore realise its value as a deterrent.I still feel that Japans choise to volunteerly not maintain a strong military as a not so wise decision if other military powers dont resiprocate.
I was refering to both real world and frictional Japan.I figured that if they bothered to create the spacefleet that was destroyed a few episodes ago they should have had a few big bombs In case of a senario like this.Yes I am aware that any show of nuclear weapons in show will result in condemnation and possible prohibition in Japan(just could'nt resist add my own thoughts on their current attitude).
Japan is prohibited from maintaining a strong military by the terms of it's WW2 surrender. It is only allowed a small Defense Force whose use is severely limited. Attempts by the rest of the world to get the limits lifted and allow Japan a full military again are always thwarted by China, who still hates/fears Japan and politically bullies everyone using threats of military escalation if Japan builds its forces up. It's done purely out of spite, but no one wants to risk escalation with China.
The US does not appear to be scared of irritating China. There does not seem to be any international agreement preventing Japan from rearming except the Japanese Constitution itself which I belive is long overdue for a overhaul especially the article preventing a offence capabel armed force.Chinese aggression is the primary reason(N.Korea is secondary) for Japan to rebuild its fleets, armies and air forces.
I love this series and the entire Yamato trilogy... but, in this situation, couldn't the Yamato air force just have dropped an atomic bomb on the fortress? LOL

The source for both Yamato and Star Wars in plane desighn and ship are WWII films and sword fighter films including japanese samarai.

Of what use are magnetic missiles against a body made of stone?
Restitutus 2 years ago
Well, the point is they didn't even try when they were in a desperate situation
fatpigslim1989 2 years ago
Even being desperate does not mean it makes sense to waste material and energy, trying magnetic pull on an asteroid. :-)

@Restitutus for your reference
1966 - Star Trek (1st TV series)
1974 - Space Battleship Yamato (1st TV series)
1977 - Star Wars (1st movie)
1978 - Battlestar Galactica (1st TV series)

@Restitutus for your reference
there was a cheap rip off of Star Wars (1977) named Message from Space (1978).
Star Wars Episode Ⅵ (1983) got the idea for the scene of Death Star from Message from Space.

What if the Comet Empire hadn't flown into space, but hovered above Earth cities? Then every shot between them and Yamato would also damage Earth.

its obvious zordar wanted to defeat the yamato first then zap earth. as he did in episode 26

Are you talking about Yamato, or real-world Japan?
Remember, it's only been a year since Season 1. It takes time to build a fleet of spaceships.
Also, do you really think that the Japanese creators of the series are going to portray the Earth using nuclear weapons after Japan's experiences?
