  • Rich Wilson had mad skilz with the PDP-8. He designed a high-performance silicon disk emulator for the Omnibus PDP-8's also.

  • The FCC does not approve.

  • @tiberianfiend But they'd be pleased by the music when trying to track down the problem :-)

  • Have it play some Tangerine Dream tracks from the same era!

  • Who needs an Ipod n_n!

  • life must suck ass to program this junker

  • What the hell causes that noise at 0:11!? That noise is creepy as hell! It sounds like screams of horror... o_o

  • i have never seen a tape drive until now. thx for showin that bit

  • I'm a little bit scared about that sound

  • What was generating the sound?

    Does a PDP-8 have a built-in speaker/beeper?

  • No, the machine does not have a built in speaker. A speaker would be simple to add - too simple :-)

Look at my other music video - there it's explained.

  • Ah, now it makes sense.

Once I've heard a history about people playing music with a Burroughs B500 the same way: they left an AM radio over the CPU module and used a specially crafted code to generate an audible interference.

I wonder whether playing music such a way wasn't a datacenter fever during the 60s and 70s. ;)

  • I want a PDP8 for play Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 2

    XD

    This is fucking Awesome,

    Thanks for sharing

  • Einfach fazinierende Technik, soviel Jahre auf dem Buckel...einfach toll :-)

  • Der erste Computer mit "Sound one Board" ;-)

  • Very cool!!! Thanks for sharing!

  • Waiting for the music to start.....hmmmm, that's it?

  • Yes, that's it. Please look to the lab8/e music video. That might be enlightening a bit...

  • Beautiful!! :)

  • Thanks

  • Woah, beeindruckend :-)

Spielt mal die Melodie von Tetris :D

  • That was great. I first learned to program in PAL-8 on this very machine in High School, 1975.

  • More computers should have ignition keys.

  • Its not a real computer unless its got a rotary dial telephone on its side. Extra points if its got a car cigarette lighter jack too. Long hours spent in front of these things watching for Russians on the vector monitor under Cheyenne Mountain, you need to relight a cigarette to go with your coffee and donut

  • @cobrachoppergirl

Did you used to run a SAGE?

  • damn those are rare

  • wtf..

  • I'd like to hear the Votrax.

  • Polyphonic too! Nice.

  • Wow, that is incredibly cool. I'd love to have one of those, but it would probably be too expensive for me. Besides, I want to build my own Cosmac ELF first.

  • Nicht zu fassen, was diese Maschinen nicht alles koennen! :-)

  • Wonderful! I'd love to come and see that some time.

  • You can see it in northern and southern Germany.

  • Ich liebe das! What song did he load into memory? It's hard to make it out with the machine noise in the background modulating the song a little....
