So. It's mean that you are Chinese American or White American . If you are white ,you are so amazing that you can pronounce and sing like that because I also study Chinese also. But If I guess form your voice , you are Chinese American Right? because you voice sounds very very Asian.
@adhichati No, I'm white American. Norwegian on my Dad's side, Irish/English on my Mom's side. Six feet tall, blonde hair and blue eyes. My pronunciation isn't that good actually, so don't use my version as a guide. :-)
Woww..you had made a very big impression to me. You have such a nice voice and sing this song out very well. Besides this song, is there any other songs that you sing so far? May be you can share with us so we can enjoy your great song.. thxs..
hi cheerfulmaster, can i ask you to please upload here a karaoke version of your own key? we have the same pitch as i am a tenor and i am dying to have a karaoke from a male version of this piece. kindly email to me the link at: nelo1216@yahoo.com. a million thanks.
Whatever you do! Whatever you think! I will sing this song always for you, even Im far from you, even you hate me, even whatever you think you do, the moon will always represent my heart to you!
I sing this song every day, and wait for you to see you in the sky, you will come someday I know that , therefore I wait for you every night, you will see how the moon in the sky will represent my heart to you, when feel it, when you remember me.
Very nice male vocal version of this classic by Teresa Teng. Although I am a Chinese, but have not learned Mandarin in the 1950's [they did not teach the official dialect then]. Your command of the Mandarin appears to be very good to me. Nice voice, sir. Thanks and keep up the good work!
Hi, you left a comment on my video a while ago requesting the instrumental version of "The Moon Represents My Heart". I haven't checked my mail in a long time, sorry I didn't see your comment earlier. If you still want it, please send me your email address and I will send you the mp3. I have the song arranged in both male and female keys, if you want the female version let me know or otherwise I will assume you want the male version.
@misswenonly Hi, sorry for the late reply. My version is in E, that might be a little high for some guys, so D would be a good key too. G is a good key for a female singer.
I really love your version of this beautiful song, and in my book it's second only to the one sung by the lovely Miss Teng herself. Your song found it's way by accident into my playlist of Teresa Teng's songs, but it's such an excellent rendition that I decided to keep it there. I also admire your collection of Teresa Teng photo's. Altogether, this is a wonderful and touching tribute to her. My sincere compliments and best wishes to you!
Thanks. I recorded the instrumental part myself. If you would like to have it as a karaoke file, just send me your email address in a PM and I'll send it to you.
Wow man, this is a beautiful, beautiful cover you did. It melts my heart. I'm straight as the any heterosexual guy out there but I'm not afraid to admit I'd throw my boxers at you during a concert swooning right along side with the ladies, hah! Don't you love how music is universal and transcends language boundaries? You don't even need to understand what's being sung to feel the romance in this time classic song. Anyway, go go whiteboy from Oregon. Cheers from Canada.
By your request, I added the chords to the description of the video. My transcription is actually more accurate than my video, I missed a chord in the verses. :-/
Out of all the rendition, yours are the third best I have heard. First of course is Teresa, second is Evonne Hse. Your Manderin Rocks. Your should tryout for American Idol!!!!!
if i was not reading the info, i would have just probably think you are a chinese mestizo. great job for a fan like you. i too loved this song so much. with your lyrics, i can sing the song with confidence. thanks buddy...
Honestly, considering the fact that this isn't your language, I think you did it brilliantly. You have a voice that suits the song, and you don't butcher the language like so many other people do. =) That's really impressive!
For far too long, we have been solely on the receiving end of TT's unwavering love. It's wonderful to finally hear some love in return, from a man. Too little perhaps, but not too late. Nice tribute!
Who cares about 'trivial' stuff like PRONOUNCIATION when one is singging from the heart?! I am here listening to you serenade us three years after you did this song.. I am sure your Manadrin is much, much better by now, huh!
Thoughts:- So sorry you lost your GF.
Advice:- Next time.. RUN FASTER!!! :))
Xie-xie and please do keep on singging, you sounded wonderful!
it's amazing. How could an american boy sing chinese song so well! I luv it! U have the mp3 of this, can you send to me? I'll listen to it everyday :)
On the right hand side of this page, there is an area of "Related Videos". The first video listed is Teresa Teng's version of this song. She sings it much better than I do, she was a professional and I'm just an amateur. This song appears on almost any collection of her greatest hits in Mandarin.
Hey, check out the following and see if you can help me to get to fans around the San Francisco Bay Area. I am the founder of Legacy Through Giving Foundation which mission is to provide opportunities for multiple of non-profit organizations to raise funds. We did a fashion and entertainment Gala at Hyatt last March 22, 08 and it was a great production and event. LTG is planning on another one next year. I am scouting for fans to honor Teresa in this event.
I used a Shure KSM44 mic and an Apogee Mini Me mic preamp. The Apogee had a USB port so it plugged directly into the computer.
Once recorded, I put the vocal through a UAD LA-2A compressor and a UAD Pultec EQ to boost some highs and roll off some lows. The UAD effects made more of a difference than the mic and preamp.
Thank you for your information, I can share to my friend. :) I had taught my firend to sing this classic song. But it's a pitty that we can't listen the original one any more.
You are great. Keep it up and you will be as good as a Mandarin singer if you don't mention you are a white boy. Don't forget that repetition is the mother of success.
I'm half Chinese and I couldn't speak any Chinese at all. But damn you are good. If you were singing this at a concert I would be throwing my panties at you.
dnt worry about your mandarin~you are doing really good already and the point is that our Teresa will be content to know that someone far away is still memorizing her even he can't understand what she sang...thumb up for you
You have a very pleasant voice. Perhaps it is because you are not a Chinese and could not fully understand the lyrics, and hence could not fully put your emotion into the song. Overall, still an outstanding effort. Thanks.
This is a truly great recording. I am planning to record it for my wife for our anniversary this year. So I have been perusing all the recordings and sound of this song I can find to get the pronounciation. I thought you did a great job. I am asian but not a mandarin speaker, and I don't think I could do better. Just wondering if you would share the instrumental background. Thanks for posting this video all the same.
Thanks. :-) I created the instrumental background myself, and recently I made it more faithful to Teresa Teng's version. In this YouTube version, I missed a chord and the strings aren't quite right, so the new version is much better. If anyone would like an mp3 file of this backing track, send me a message with your email address and I will send it to you.
Pinyin corresponds badly with actual pronunciation. It's just a romanization system. If you're going to sing, you'd better check out the IPA for Standard Mandarin.
Yeah, the various pinyin systems are pretty useless, especially since the vowel tone markings are often neglected. I had a pinyin transcription of this song, but I didn't use it. Instead I just tried to copy Teresa's sounds.
I recorded this for a girlfriend, and I didn't have much time to work on the vocals since I had to re-create the music too. I wanted to surprise her with it, so I couldn't ask her advice on proper pronunciation. I didn't intend to publish it on YouTube at the time.
If you read some of the other comments, you'll see that some people seem to like my bad pronunciation. O.o So even if I re-record this song, I'll probably leave this version up on YouTube.
Yes, your voice is great for Teresa's songs. I grew up with her songs and love them all the time. I brought many albums with me when coming to USA. Sometimes too nostalgic listening to her songs, but that's nice feeling.
I'm also wondering if you have better English lyrics...
wow!!! im so impressed!!!! your mandarin is perfect and you got a great voice! you would so melt any girl's heart with that voice and that song! (the song is very key though! haha im a huge TT fan :P) How did you get to know about TT? and where'd you learn all that mandarin?
Thank you! :-) I have a very dear friend who is a little older than Teresa, and she's like my mom. She's teaching me some Mandarin, although I'm a lazy student. She also introduced me to Teresa, and everyone who hears Teresa loves her! Like many chinese women, she was so sweet and beautiful. ^_^
I hope to record more Teresa songs at the end of the summer. I need to wait until the weather cools down so I can turn the AC off. Otherwise it's too noisy to record.
Well, that's because the Chinese comprise only 75% of our population. Furthermore, You can't possibly expect every Chinese for that matter be speaking Mandarin fluently instead of a dialect or English or any other language. Being Chinese doesn't mean you can or have to speak Mandarin fluently.
Thanks! My name is John, I'm 40 years old, I live in Los Angeles, for now I work as an audio engineer in the music industry. I only record my own music for fun, I'm not really interested in being an entertainer. I recorded this song for a chinese girl that I was chasing. :-)
I like this sweet sort of music, both western and asian, so I don't like contemporary music very much. I don't speak much Mandarin, but I have an adopted "chinese mom" who is willing to teach me more. :-)
Nope, she escaped. LOL Chinese girls run really fast. :-)
Actually this song wasn't that hard, it took more time to record the drums, guitars, piano and strings than it did to do the vocals, since I had to figure out the song by ear from Teresa's version, then transpose it into a man's key. It only took a few days, and I probably should've spent more effort on the chinese pronunciation.
You could hv fooled me if you didnt mention that you were a white American. Great singing with some fantastic slides of Teresa Teng. You have done her proud. Thank you.
heyhey, hehe, i visit u again, still lv it, everytime i visit u here, still lv it lv it lv it, never change, just like i lv my husband, never change , hehe, you said your manderin is not good, so u r cantonese speaker, yeh? Don't know how to ing like u and post it, ^.*
I see....so what about your next song?

If you read some of the other comments, you'll see that some people seem to like my bad pronunciation. O.o So even if I re-record this song, I'll probably leave this version up on YouTube.

You are great ,man. I add ur tape to my favourite.

Yes, your voice is great for Teresa's songs. I grew up with her songs and love them all the time. I brought many albums with me when coming to USA. Sometimes too nostalgic listening to her songs, but that's nice feeling.
I'm also wondering if you have better English lyrics...

not bad!!!! just work on ur pronunciation and it would be much better! voice has a soothing sound too. maybe u should record a new one?
ykidkwis 3 years ago
you should most definitely record more TT songs!!! Sure it'd be great :D
eskimoboozy 3 years ago
wow!!! im so impressed!!!! your mandarin is perfect and you got a great voice! you would so melt any girl's heart with that voice and that song! (the song is very key though! haha im a huge TT fan :P) How did you get to know about TT? and where'd you learn all that mandarin?
eskimoboozy 3 years ago

I used his song for my Chinese class, it was very successful, thank you, john.:-)
I like the way you say 'yueliang', it's cute, don't fix it.
By the way, Chinese girls do not always run fast:-(. Maybe American boys run even faster?:-))
holymichael 3 years ago
I'm sure I'll catch one someday. I just hope that when I do, I won't be so old that I forget why I was chasing them. :-)
cheerfulhamster 3 years ago
I am a chinese who lives in Scotland. Love your song:-).your Chinese girl is very lucky. Did she really run away? how? Want to share your love story?
holymichael 3 years ago
Thanks. :-) We just wanted different things (kids, money, etc). No dramatic or interesting story. :-)

Most people in my country (Singapore) don't speak Mandarin that well. With the exception of 5 or 6 words, your pronunciation is very impressive :-)
Itubetoo2 3 years ago

cheerfulhamster 3 years ago
well your chinese is better then mine XD
are you married with the chinese girl now?
hmmm..., i'm not sure whether i will learn a song in a completely unknown language to chase a girl. Seems like too much work <:o)
Mahkee 3 years ago
Nope, she escaped. LOL Chinese girls run really fast. :-)
Actually this song wasn't that hard, it took more time to record the drums, guitars, piano and strings than it did to do the vocals, since I had to figure out the song by ear from Teresa's version, then transpose it into a man's key. It only took a few days, and I probably should've spent more effort on the chinese pronunciation.

I also have a new video posted under a different account, it's the first "video response" posted above.
