Many movie horror villains don't sleep like Pinhead, Candyman, Wishmaster, the Terminator,(Plus T-1000 and T-X), tall man, leprechaun and many others, which means that Freddy would NOT be able to do much against them, and if they fought in the real world, then pretty well all the villains I mentioned above would probably beat Freddy. In actual fact Jason Voorhees doesn't sleep either, but they had to make some kind of a plot for Freddy vs Jason to give Freddy some dominance.

new line cinema bought the rights to jason after paramount no longer wanted them and new line makes all the freddy movies so they made freddy kick jasons ass through out the whole thing, even when they pulled freddy into the real world jason still didnt do shit, im a jason fan and they could have been alot more creative with him,, they gave him all the kills thats it.
